Chapter 4

"Yawn!" Ed stretched out his arms up to the sky.

"Brother, do you know what time our next train leaves?" Al asked.

"It's not till tomorrow morning. Let's get some shut eye." Ed replied as he made himself comfortable on the bench.

You sat next to Al and stared at the ground. Al glanced over to you and gave you a soft chuckle.

"You should get some rest (Name). We have a while to wait for the next train." Al said in a sweet tone. You gave him a blank stare then glanced back to the ground.

"I will be just fine. I have had enough rest along the way." You responded with your emotionless tone.

"Well, I just thought maybe you should get some more rest just in case something were to happen. And Coronel Hughes would kill me and Ed if something bad would happen to you. It was hard enough for him to let you come with us to Liore." Al's sweat dropped at the thought of your over protective father, Hughes.

{flashback}

"NO! I REFUSE TO LET MY LITTLE GIRL TO ACCOMPANY SUCH A TASK!" Hughes shouts, embracing you in his arms with a tight squeeze.

"Hughes, I understand your concern for your daughter but she is one of our strongest soldiers. I doubt having her babysit two kids on one mission." Roy explained, which kinda ticked Ed off and Al sweatdropped.

"NO,NO,NO! I CANNOT ACCEPT THIS!" Hughes whined as he was now being separated from you, both Riza Hawkeye and Havick securring him, each grabbing an arm. Hughes began to struggle.

"I will be alright, Father. I will return back safely." You assurred to Hughes with a blank expression.

"(Name)..." Hughes began to cry with anime tears.

{Flashback}

You sighed.

"Alright. I will try to get some rest." you said as you slowly began to close your eyes.

"AAAAHHHH!!! MY PURSE! HE STOLE MY PURSE!" a woman shouted, causing you to wake up.

"Well, naptime's over." Ed announced as he stood up.

Al nodded in reply and stood up with him. You stand and rested your hand on your gun, ready to attack when you spot the thief running towards the three of you with a purse in his hands.

"Hah, it's almost too easy." the thief smirked at his victory but quickly ends when his path was blocked by you, Ed, and Al. "Alright now, off to bed you two, like good little boys now. You too missy, I don't have time for this!" he mocked as he pulled out his pistol.

You quickly equiped your gun and shot the pistol out of the thief's hand, causing him to tremble. Al placed his hands on the ground, and a bright blue light surrounded the thief. Then metal bars emersed from the ground and formed into a cage to keep the thief locked in. Ed approached the caged thief and picked up the pistol and laughed.

"I think you're the one who crawled out of the crib too early." Ed told the thief, as he gave you the pistol. You took the weapon and placed it on your gun belt.

"Nicely done! Now that was really something. Your trick there wouldn't what they call alchemy would it?" a cop asked, with an amazed look on his face.

"Uh yeah?" Ed replied.

"To think that kids your age could be such accomplished alchemists already! Around these parts, the only alchemist I ever get to see is old Majhal." the cop mentioned to the three of you.

"Majhal, huh?" Ed said.

"Yup, they say he does good things for people in need with his alchemy, just like you kids did." said the cop.

"Where can we find him?" Ed asked out of the blue.

"Oh, the next town over...but it's best not to go there right now...I've heard that it's become a dangerous place. They say that the dead have come to life and has risen from their graves are attacking the villagers." the cop explained.

{after the carrage ride to town}

"Uh..." Ed moaned like an old man, as well as walking like one.

"Are you all right, brother?" Al asked.

"Yeah,I'm just peachy. I love turbulent carriage rides in seats as soft as granite." Ed said sarcastically. "It didn't bother you at all?" he asked his brother.

Al shook his head.

"(Name)?" Ed added as he glanced at you.

You shook your head also. Ed groaned when something suddenly caught his attention.

"Well, would ya look at that? They didn't even invite us." Ed pointed out a festival down the hill.

BOOM!!!

Fireworks suddenly went off from behind you and the boys. It made Ed and Al jump with fright while it didn't even bother you at all.

"Yikes! That one went toward the village!" said a boy, running towards your direction along with a group of boys.

The boy came to a stop after noticing you and the Elric brothers.

"What are you doing here?! This place is off-limits! We're in the middle of a fireworks rehearsal here!" said the boy.

Ed began to sweat with fright as he turned around and faced the children with an angry look on his face.

"F-fireworks? What are you talking about?!" Ed grunted.

"The fireworks for the festival, of course!" said the boy. "I've never seen your face before, have I?" he asked.

Then his group began messing with Al, poking at his armor with sticks.

"Whats with this guy? He's got on a strange outfit!" said one of the boys.

Ed broke the boys' stick in half and glared at him.

"Quit it!" he demanded.

"Let's get'em. Should be fun." said the leader.

The band of boys charged at Ed and Al first. Ed began to charge at them but tripped over a rock like a clutz, falling flat on his face. Then after Ed came Al losing his balance as he tried to catch himself with a pole looking statue with a beast head at the top. Of course Al failed to keep his balance and ended up breaking off the beast head from the pole and fell on top of Ed. You stared at the Elric brothers with a blank expression on your face. You just then realized that you were being targeted too as an older boy came charging at you with a baseball bat. He swung, you easily dodged it, hitting his hand causing him to let go of the bat. You quickly took hold of the bat and dug it into the boy's gut causing him to hug his stomach and fall to his knees. You then swung it over your shoulder looking down at the boy.

"You shouldn't use this as a weapon, its dangerous." You said as you tossed the bat away.

The leader noticed that you took down one of his boys and gazed at you with amazement. He looked down and noticed the guns in your gun belt. He began to back away slowly.

"Guys this girl has a gun." he said.

His group began to back away as well in fear.

"What's going on here?" The voice of a man demanded.

You and the group of boys turned and faced a middle aged man wearing a villager man outfit and a waste coat. He had light brown shoulder length hair.

He went over and picked up the broken statue was and placed it back on the pole. He covered it up with his hand that had a odd looking bracelet and began to flow with a purple color. Then when he uncovered the statue head, it looked good as new, like it was never broken in the first place.

"You must be Majhal." Ed spoke, both he and Al also saw him fixing the pole statue.

{at Majhal's house}

You, Ed, Al, and Majhal were seated at his dining table having a nice chat.

"Such fine workmanship! That's truly an impressive spirt attachment." Majhal complimented.

"He knows about me, brother!" Al said in shock, Ed was shocked as well.

"Well I'd expect nothing less from the sons of Hohenheim." Majhal grinned kindly. "Apparently, you've inherited his great talent." He added.

"Hohenheim...he must be Ed and Al's father." You thought to yourself.

"Now then, who's your friend?" Majhal asked, glancing over at you.

"This is (Name) Hughes. She's--" Ed began.

"The Siren Alchemist." Majhal finished.

"You know her?" Al asked.

"Why of course I do. Everyone does. The Siren Alchemist is one of the most skilled military soldiers. Not to mention she has an amazing voice. Just like a Siren." Majhal explained as he gave you a smile, you gaze at him with a blank face and cocked your head to the side a bit. "Now then, tell me what can I do for you boys today. Surely you've come here for a good reason, and I can't very well disappoint the sons of a dear friend." He presumed, facing the boys.

"I've read the letters you write to my father. I want to know more about human transmutation." Ed proclaimed.

"You do know that human alchemy is strictly forbidden by the laws of the State." Majhal said with a serious look.

"Yeah I know but I don't really care. I will return my brother to his body!" Ed declared.

"I think you understand the incredibly high toll of messing around with human alchemy...I know how it feels to lose someone, but the act at molding flesh is better left to the hands of God." Majhal progressed.

"Alright if that's how you feel then why were you so obsessed about it back then?!" Ed asked, catching Majhal off guard.

"Youthful optimism or youthful foolishness." He replied.

Then there was a sudden knock at the door.

Opening the door Majhal finds an hooded elderly woman standing there with a basket of things.

"Hello Majhal. I made a batch of rose jam and had some extra, so I thought perhaps you might enjoy." The woman offered as she held out a jar of jam to him.

"Of course. You spoil me, Lebi. You're too kind." Majhal thanked with a smile, accepting the gift.

"Not at all..." The woman replied and just stood there in silence.

"Was there something else then?" He asked.

"No, I'm sorry. Excuse me." She spoke, looking at the ground.

"Well all right. Take care." He said.

You and the boys watched the scene between Majhal and the strange woman. The boys didn't notice but you did, you just didn't know what it was.

{Later}

Majhal had dinner made and Ed was choking down while you ate your food slowly. Al didn't eat because he didn't have a body of course and Majhal just watched as the two of you ate.

"Don't choke." You muttered to Ed.

"Huh, what did you s--cough cough" Ed began but then he started choking.

You looked at him blankly and gave him a drink. He chugged down your beverage and catches his breath.

"Are you alright brother?!" Al asked with concern.

Ed began to gag and gag then gave you a death glare while you were busy finishing your meal. "You made me drink...your...milk...(Name)...I hate milk..." Ed growled under his breath.

"It saved you from choking." You spoke, not making eye contact with him.

Ed's veins on his head began to pop with anger.

"Why you--" he growled.

"So, what is this festival we heard about?" Al asked, changing the subject.

"Oh yes...the Requiem Festival. It's when the spirits of the dead sent up on fireworks to be returned to heaven where they belong." Majhal explained.

"And what about all these rumors we heard but the dead coming back to life as murders zombies on a bloody rampage? Did that have anything to do with it?" Ed asked looking away from you to Majhal.

"Haha silly rumors of a superstitious town." Majhal laughed, when there was another knock at the door. "My my. I certainly am popular this evening, aren't I?" He chuckled as he made his way towards the door.

As he opened the door you Ed and Al saw the leader of the boy's group standing in the doorway with his father.

"You little brat!" Ed shouted as he jumped up from his seat and pointed at the boy.

"Out with it, Clause... Don't you have something to say to Majhal?" The boys dad demanded ruffling his hat.

"But I don't really see why I should have to apologize! It's their stupid fault for being so weak, for boys anyway!" The boy accused Ed and Al.

Ed began to charge at the boy but Al held him back.

"What? Let me at him! Come on, let me at him!" Ed shouted trying to struggle free when you came up next to them, staring at the boy.

The boy had a very feminine face up close. He even has a high pitch voice, now that you think about it that boy probably is...

"Clause, I know your sister's death affected you... But you were once such a sweet and gentle little girl. What would your late sister think if she could see what you've turned into." Majhal said with a gentle tone of his voice.

"So he's actually a she, huh." You thought to yourself.

Ed and Al didn't hear the girl part because they were too busy with their own problems.

"Shut up! You don't know how I feel! No one does!" Clause shouts, catching Majhal off guard. "My sister didn't just up and die... She was killed! By that dead girl!" She cried.

That information caught you and the boys attention automatically.

"Okay...come again?" Ed said, back into his natural non crazy state.

Clause took off running as her father yelled after her. When she took off running you went after her then Ed and Al chased after you.

"Hey (Name)! Where are you going?!" Ed called out as he continued chasing after you as well as Al.

You ran faster and caught up with her but Clause didn't notice you. She kept on running with her head down, not watching where she was going then tripped over a small rock. You followed your instincts by embracing her in your arms, being her shield and began rolling downhill really fast towards a river. Ed saw you and Clause heading for the river and quickly drew an alchemy sign on the ground then placed his hand on the sign causing it to glow blue and the blue lights went to the water freezing it completely, you landing on your back as Clause was on top of you, safe from harm.

"Hey! Are you two okay?!" Al called out to you and Clause, running to help.

You nodded your head and glanced down at Clause who was on top of you looking shocked and surprised. You patted her on the head causing her to look up at you making eye contact with her sky blue eyes.

"Are you alright?" You asked.

Clause blushed a bit it quickly and got off of you having her head down, nodding in reply. She was blushing because of how beautiful you looked up close but you didn't notice it.

"Wait a second." She said, jumping to her feet, looking at Ed and Al. "Your alchemists?" She asked, then turned to you. "And you saved me?" She asked another question.

You, the boys, and Clause settled at the top of the hill, listening to what she has to say.

"It's been nearly 6 months since my sister died. We had no idea how or why. One of the villagers just found her, lying there, like she was asleep. But she wasn't asleep. And then, on the night of her funeral...my father told me that...she was a woman who lived in the village a long time ago before she died. Don't you see? From there, it wasn't hard to put it together. The dead lady came back to life and killed my sister! And others too! It's all because of her." Clause explained her story to you and the boys, looking very upset. "But if you guys really are alchemists you can help me avenge her death! I've begged Majhal to help but he refuses to take part! Whaddaya say?" She asked.

"I can see why Majhal wouldn't consider it." Ed said, catching Clause's attention. "Your theory's as logically sound as a ghost tale. Besides, I don't believe in revenge as motivation." Ed added.

"You're just saying that...cause you're nothing but a couple of chickens! Posing as alchemists, when you're just a babysitter, cowardly pipsqueak, and walking trash can!" Clause shouted.

"Pipsqueak!"

"Trash can?"

"Babysitter?"

"Nobody calls me a pipsqueak and gets away with it! Not even a little boy like you!" Ed shouts with rage, Al is gloomy and you are thinking why Clause called you a Babysitter with anime question marks floating around your head.

"Is that so? Gosh, I'm so terrified of the whiny little pipsqueak!" Clause mocks him. "You guys are worthless!" Clause cried as she kicked dust on Ed, leaving you and the boys behind.
