Chapter 5
{At Majhal's house the next morning}
Ed, Al, and Majhal were sitting at the dinner table talking. You were somewhere else.
"Karin? Yes, I remember her. She did live here. She made a living by raising flowers. She was a beautiful woman. I cant believe its been 20 years now. She recently succeeded in cultivating an extremely rare blue rose." Majhal explained as a soft smile grew upon his face. "Her smile at the time was simply...but then while she was riding in a carriage, shipping her famous blue roses into town..." He continued when a painful look appeared on his face. "...she fell down along the mountain roads, and died there." he finished.
"But they say that the same Karin is terrorizing the villagers." Ed spoke.
"Absolutely impossible. We both know that the dead don't simply come back to life. And besides, even if they could If you knew Karin, you know it would be inconceivable that she would attack the other villagers in life or in death." Majhal proclaimed.
{In the bedroom}
"So...what do you think, Brother?" Al asked his brother's opinion.
"Its true, dead people don't come back to life. But supposing that someone were to perform a human transmutation...the only around that's capable of doing it is Majhal." Ed replied, when suddenly there was a soft screeching sound coming from outside the bedroom.
Ed jumped up from his seat and rushed out into the hallway.
"What was that?" he asked himself, as he stared down at a long, dark hallway. "Did you hear that or am I just going crazy?" Ed asked Al.
"Hear...what?" Al asked.
Ed growled under his breath and glared.
{In town}
You were taking a stroll in town, gazing at different shops that you walked past. You were wearing your uniform bottoms and a loose black T-shirt, with your (h/l) (h/c) in a bun. You noticed a restaurant went inside. It was small.
"Welcome Miss! Can I help you with anything?" the counter guy asked with a smile on his face.
"No. I'm fine." you replied as you sat at the counter in a daze.
"So, we're really gonna do this?" you heard a little boy ask from behind you.
"yeah, we're gonna catch this Karin zombie with our own hands!" a voice which sounded a bit like a girl proclaimed. "What, are you afraid?!" the child yelled. "If this keeps up, someone else might get killed and it could be you!" they said.
You recognize that voice very well...it was that cross dresser Clause.
"Yeah, but..." the other boy was about to say, when suddenly there was a sound of glass breaking.
The group of boys looked over at what was happening as well as you. You saw an old lady with wavy brown hair, with a shawl over her head. You recognized that old woman from last night. You believe her name was Lebi. You also noticed a shattered up bowl on the floor next to her feet.
"Geez, what are you doing, old lady?" The clerk yelled at the woman.
"I'm sorry." Lebi apologized, trying to clean up the mess.
You went over to her and lightly touched her hand. She looked up at you with a surprised look on her face. You didn't make eye contact with her.
"It's dangerous to pick up glass with your bare hands. You'll only cut yourself." You said, digging into your pocket. "I'll clean this up." You added, pulling out a pair of leather gloves and putting them on.
"Th-thank you miss. You are most kind." Lebi smiled warmly to you and stood up, making her leave.
"Hey! Where do you think you're going?!" The clerk shouted after her.
You picked up the glass and threw it away while the clerk kept yelling at the woman. You confronted him and gave him $200. He stared at the money in your hands as well as all his employees that worked with him. They all had a funny look on their faces like their eyes turned into black dots. There was a moment of silence.
"Is this enough?" You asked.
"Huh? Oh yes. Yes it is!" The clerk said as he snatched the money out of your hands.
Clause and her boy gang stared at u in awe.
"Whoa! Where the heck does she get change like that?!" Clause's friend whispered in surprise.
Clause just stared at you.
"Hey is that who I think it is?" A man asked his friend sitting at the table next to Clause's.
"Yea. I know that face anywhere." His friend replied.
"Huh? Do these people know her? I haven't seen her before in town." Clause thought to herself.
"There's no mistake, it's the Siren Alchemist. I'm sure of it!" The man whispered.
"Siren...Alchemist?" Clause repeated in her head.
"I heard that during combat of war, she took out 100 men in a matter of seconds..." The man's friend whispered.
"100 men?!" Clause's eyes grew wide.
"...but the amazing thing is, that she used only a bow and arrow as her weapon." He added.
"Amazing! With just a bow and arrow?!" Clause thought to herself then shot up from her seat when she saw you walking out the door.
"Clause what's going on?" Her friend asked in surprise.
"Quick! Follow that girl!" Clause ordered them, then they all began to follow you in secret.
{a while later}
Clause and her gang followed you all the way to the end of town.
"Tell me again why we are following this girl?" Clause's friend asked her, whiningly.
"Like I said before I'm going to ask her to help us catch Karin!" Clause answered.
"And what if she says no?" He asked.
"Well, we'll never know unless we ask her." Clause said.
"Clause?" You asked when you stood behind the little group, scaring them almost.
"Th-th-th-the Siren Alchemist!" Clause shouted in panic.
"There's no need to call me that. You can call me (Name)." You said as you bent over placing your hands on your knees.
"Um ok...(Name)..." Clause said, looking away.
"Was there something you needed, Clause? I noticed that you and your friends are following me for a while." You said, never looking away.
Clause and her gang jolted.
"You knew?!" Clause said in shock.
You nodded in reply.
"So? Is there something you want to ask me?" You asked.
"Uh, um, well..." Clause studdered, you just cocked your head to the side a bit. "Please help us catch the Karin!" She finally spoke as she bowed in plea.
You just stared at her.
"I know that I'm being reckless but I want to avenge my sister's death and I'll do that until I have captured and put an end to this Karin for good. No matter what it takes. So I'm begging you to please help!!" Clause shouted with her head still down.
You still stared at the child in silence and stood up straight.
"Alright. I'll help you." You replied, Clause and the boys all smiling big. "You'll do anything for the people you love, right?" You added, looking away.
Clause gazed at your face in the sunset and blushed a bit then nodded in agreement.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
{at the town gravesite}
Ed and Al were wandering in the grave yard in the middle of the night. Ed was leading the way, holding a lantern while Al followed behind, trembling in fear.
"Brother wait for me!" Al cried, catching up with Ed.
"What's with you? You scared?" Ed teased.
"Of course not. There aren't really any zombies around, are there?" Al replied looking around.
"Don't be ridiculous, Al. If Karin was roamin these woods it would only be thanks to human alchemy.. It's worth checking out--AAAHHH!!!" Ed began them both him and Al fell into a hole.
After they did, you, Clause and the rest of her gang popped out of re bushes.
"We did it!" Cried one of the boys.
"We caught her!"shouted another.
All of you ran to the hole and found Ed being crushed by Al.
"Ow, my back! Again!" Ed cried.
You peered into the hole and blinked twice.
"Ah, Edward...Alphonse. Good evening." You said squatting down, raising your hand to say hello, your eyes in the shape of black dots.
"(Name)?! WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU DOING?! THIS IS NO TIME TO BE PLAYING WITH KIDS!!" Ed shouted, his veins popping.
Clause sighed in disappointment.
"It's ok guys! False alarm." She groaned when she noticed her friend trembling.
"O-over there!" He studdered, pointing forward.
Both you and Clause followed where he was pointing and saw a beautiful woman with a dark glow around her, standing by a grave. The woman then noticed you and Clause and faced your way. You pull out your gun and loaded it, ready to shoot. The boys fled for their lives.
"You took my sister from me." Clause growled.
"So this must be Karin, Clause was talking about." You thought to yourself.
Then Clause began to charge Karin, while Ed and Al were almost out of the ditch.
"Wait, Clause!" Ed called out.
Of course Clause didn't listen and kept on going until you bear hugged her with your left arm and pointed the gun at the woman with your right arm. You took a deep breath and fired your gun, hitting the woman in the head. The woman (Karin) bent herself back.
"Did you get her?" Clause asked.
"I don't know." Ed said as he and Al pulled themselves out of the pit.
Karin stood up straight then was about to launch herself to you, and without thinking you pushed Clause into Ed and Al's care and pointed the gun at Karin again, ready to fire when Majhal suddenly appeared in front of you with a lantern in his right hand. His alchemy bracelet began to glow purple, making the fire in the lantern grew enormous and launched itself at Karin like a serpent striking its prey. Then Karin was engulfed in flames. She began to collapse with a strange screeching noise. Ed blinked when he heard the noise.
"That sound again...!" He began.
Then a very attractive woman came from behind a tree smirking at what she was watching.
"The alchemist Majhal...second-rate after all, how disappointing." She said then glanced over at you.
"That girl...I would have expected more from her...oh well." She thought to herself as she then departed into the woods.
{at the town festival}
Fireworks exploded here and there. Everybody in town came to enjoy the celebration.
"To Majhal! A real hero!" A villager cheered. "If it weren't for you, this town would be overrun by zombies! I'd knew you'd put her in her place!" He added, toasting with some more men along with Majhal.
{at Majhal's house}
Ed and Al were snooping in the hallway, well Ed was mostly. He knocked on the wall then pressed his ear up against it.
"What are you doing, Ed?" Al asked.
"I was right about her not being a zombie but she wasn't a transmute either." Ed replied, pulling his ear away from the wall and examining it. "That sound she made, it was the same one I heard and here..." Ed added.
Then someone hidden in a shaw was carrying a candle. Ed and Al turned to see who it was.
"Majhal will be very crossed if he finds you, he doesn't like it when people snoop around his home." Said the voice a an old woman and it was Lebi.
"Oh yeah? And what about you?" Ed shot back with a smirk.
Lebi didn't answer and instead she held the candle in front of her. Suddenly Ed groaned in pain as he gripped his head.
"Brother!" Al cried.
Ed was getting lightheaded began to wobble, falling through a door into a study room. He tried to get up but couldn't but he noticed replica's of the same Karin lady from the grave yard. There were lots of them, they looked like mannequin puppets. Two were sitting on top of a bookshelf, one was standing up against a bookshelf while somewhere laying on the floor.
"W-what's all this...?" Ed muttered then fell unconscious.
"Brother!" Al cried, then noticed someone standing next to him and it was Majhal, holding out his bracelet which glowed purple, knocking Al out cold.
{outside at the festival}
You were about to head back to Majhal's place when you felt a tug on your pants. You stopped and looked behind you to see Clause tugging lightly on your pants, her hat covering her eyes.
"Clause? Is something the matter?" You asked, Clause shook her head.
"I just...I just wanted to thank you for helping me." Clause said.
You shook your head and pulled Clause's hand off your pants and held it tightly, squatting down till your her height.
"I'm not the one who you should be thanking...its Majhal." You said.
"Yeah...I guess your right." Clause replied, still avoiding your gaze, squeezing your hand. "Um...were you going back to Majhal's house?" She asked, you nodded.
"Do you want me to come with you to thank him?" You asked.
"N-n-no! I can do it myself! I'm not a little kid anymore!" Clause shouts, finally making eye contact with you, blushing.
You then nodded and began pulling Clause with you, not letting go of her hand.
"Let's go, then." You said, Clause nodded and you two ran to Majhal's house.
{at Majhal's house}
You and Clause enter the home quietly.
"Majhal?" Clause called out, but no one answered. "Maybe no one home." She said.
You weren't so sure so you pulled Clause with you into the hallway towards Majhal's bedroom--
"It appears you've seen something you really shouldn't have seen, Edward." You paused when you heard Majhal's voice.
Clause looked up at you, confused on why you have stopped.
"What's wr--" Clause began but you covered her mouth and pulled her close to you.
"Oh you mean--your so called zombies?!" Ed said, Clause's eyes grew wide and you blinked your eyes. "Yeah I saw your toys!" He added.
"Toys? Their canvases for spirit binding. Mannequins I've carved into replicas of my beloved Karin and to which I bind the soul of any village girl I can snare." Majhal smirked.
You kept listening when you felt Clause squeezing your arm that was wrapped around her. You looked down at her for a bit.
"And in doing so, I formed any living version of my fallen love." Majhal added.
"But you failed!" Ed commented.
"It is true that spirits reject foreign vessels that are unlike them in nature. They usually malfunction, that's why Al is so special." Majhal explained. "Some of my dolls escaped, wandering free about the village. Few lay in superstition." He added.
"You crazy selfish nutcase! Do you realize what you have done?! Why the hell did you do it?!" Ed shouted angrily.
"Karin was the only woman I loved. No matter how many years passed since Karin's death, my scars will not heal. I made up my mind that I would bring Karin back to life through alchemy. However it was impossible for me to do human transmutation. That's being the case, I wanted to create something that resembled her beauty. I did it for love." Majhal proclaimed.
"So you chose body over soul." Ed commented.
"Shut up! Your child will could you possibly know about love?! But you do know something of alchemy. And now you're going to help me to do an attachment like you did with your brother." Majhal said.
"No way!" Ed refused.
"It figures. You're just as stubborn as your father was." Majhal commented then began to leave the room. "Well then I think I'm going to go to catch myself a soul." He proclaimed as he opened the door then found you holding Clause.
Ed and Al saw you and Clause standing before Majhal. Ed's eyes widen and Al gasped. You saw Ed and Al chained up so you pulled out a dagger with your right hand and defended you and Clause while your other hand kept her close.
"So you are the one that killed Clause's sister?" You spoke, holding Clause protectively.
"Well if it isn't my lucky day! The soul of a strong alchemist and a young girl for my spirit binding, perfect." Majhal smirked.
"(Name), get Clause out of here! Run!" Ed cried.
"Too late!" Majhal smirked and his bracelet glowed.
Clause trembled, then you embraced her tightly, picking her up and carrying her down the in a rush when you suddenly felt a strong push you forward, causing you to fall and slide on the wooden floor then BONK! You hit your head on the corner of a small dresser the was in the hallway and knocked you unconscious, your bun came loose making your (h/l) (h/c) hair come down, blood trickling down your face from your head, still holding Clause safely. Clause gasped and got up trying to wake you up.. Majhal was about to walk to you and Clause but was stopped by Lebi.
"This has gone too far! I can't turned a blind eye any farther!" Lebi cried.
"Then you should try turning the other cheek, you witch!" Majhal growled as he pushed her to the ground, walking towards you and Clause.
Clause was trying to pull you over her shoulder when Majhal hit her in the back of the neck with the side of his hand, kicking her unconscious as well. He then carried both of you on each of his shoulder's. He walked past the room where Ed and Al were and smirked, Ed and Al look terrified. Then Ed began to growl.
"Al, do something, quick!" Ed cried.
Al began to pushed his arms out against the chains.
"Just a little more...!" Al muttered out loud, then broke the chains.
Ed went to Lebi's aid and noticed something about her. He saw a blue rose petal in Lebi's hair.
"A rare blue rose...?" Ed muttered to himself, then understood.
{in Majhal's study}
Majhal had you strapped to a chair unconscious still, with a Karin mannequin doll strapped to a chair that was strapped to yours. Clause was the same another Karin mannequin. You both were being surrounded by a purple light which was coming from transmutation circle. Majhal stood and watched.
"My two souls, accept your new vessels. Where ever you are Karin, bless us. Let her become just like you." Majhal proclaimed.
You hung your head down, letting your blood drip on your boot. Then you slowly began to regain consciousness. You stared at your feet still a little weak then tried to break free. But it was no use, you didn't have the strength, your soul was already beginning to leave your body. Then your blood from your forehead dropped on your boot again. You stared at your blood then blinked at the idea you had. Clause then opened her eyes slowly and gasped at what was happening to her.
"No! Let me go!" Clause cried struggling to break free.
When you heard Clause's cry, you glanced at we then at your little spot of blood of on your boot.
"Imyuta ichi varutol..." You silently chanted.
Then the blood from your boot began to slither away towards Clause and up towards the rope.
"I said let me go!" Clause demanded, the suddenly her arms were cut free, then fell forward.
"What?!" Majhal growled under his breath.
Clause began to tremble when Majhal walked toward her.
"You will give me your soul!" Majhal demanded reaching for Clause.
"Imyuta ichi varutol..." You chanted again, then your blood slithered in front of Clause and formed into a spike pointing at Majhal, nearly slicing his hand.
"What the hell?!" Majhal snared holding his wounded hand, Clause gasped at what she was seeing.
He then noticed you looking at him from the corner of your eye, sweating. He smirked.
"Just what I would suspect from the Famous Siren Alchemist." Majhal snared, then suddenly there were blue sparks on the wall behind him then exploded into a huge hole, revealing Ed and Al, along with Lebi.
"Let them go Majhal! Nothing you think you know is the truth...and what you were seeking was under your nose." Ed proclaimed.
"What is this nonsense?" Majhal glared at Ed.
"I'm trying to tell you that Karin never died!" Ed admitted. "The day of the accident...she hit her head, lost her memory, as started a new life somewhere!" Ed explained. "Twenty years later, her memory returned in a flash, and, in a true gesture of love, she came straight back to you. But, you were too blinded by obsession to see it was her!" Ed finished as he pulled the shaw off of Lebi revealing her in a blue dress with her hair wavy brown and a blue rose in her hair.
"Yes, Majhal." The real Karin spoke.
Majhal's eyes grew wide then stepped back, the transmutation circle stopped glowing.
"Are you telling me this wrinkled, old woman is Karin? Karin was a woman of incomparable beauty and perfection! Just like a rose." Majhal continued stepping back.
"Exactly like a rose...flowers wither, Majhal. But despite on what you have become, Karin's feelings for you have not." Ed explained.
"Silence, child! Say one more word..." Majhal clutched his fists. "...and you're dead!" He cried as he grabbed a screw driver, it then was transmitted into a sword then charged towards Ed, Al, and Karin.
Ed and Karin trembled with fear when Al stood in front of them and blocked Majhal's attack, but he attacked again. Ed snatched the blue rose out of Karin's hair and transmuted it into a blue ribbon that smacked the sword out of Majhal's grasp as it flew up in the air, shooting down, piercing his stomach. Karin gasped and went to Majhal's aid.
"Majhal! Majhal!" Karin cried.
"I don't see it...there's no way you could possibly be my Karin." Majhal tried to speak, then looked behind Karin at the Karin mannequins. "Karin...I'm coming for you." Majhal smiled then drifted away.
Karin then broke into tears. Ed and Al looked upset. Clause then went to your side and tried to untie you. Ed went to you and tried to help but the knot was too tight. Ed noticed the dagger on your belt and unsheathed it, cutting you loose. You then fell into Ed's arms. Ed gazed at your unconscious face, he moved a strange of your hair away from your face. He then felt something wet and cold on his white gloves. He examined his gloves and had blood on his fingertips.
"Cold blood...?" Ed thought to himself.
"Al, go help Karin with Majhal." Ed ordered.
"Ah, alright." Al said as he went over and picked up Majhal and walked out of the room with Karin following behind.
"(Name)...she saved me..." Clause spoke. "She must've used her own blood to protect me." She added.
Ed looked shocked when Clause pointed out your blood spike in the room and how your blood cut Clause loose. Ed looked down at you, softness in his golden eyes.
"(Name) you really are something else." Ed thought to himself.
{at the carriage stop}
You and Al sat on the bench by the carriage stop while Ed stood on look out for any carriage. You had on your soldier uniform with your hair pulled back into a messy bun. On the upper left corner was a bandaid from when you hit your head. Ed glanced behind at Al and placed his hands on his hips.
"Good to see you're depressed and back to normal!" Ed spoke, catching Al's attention.
"I'm sorry, I was just thinking how alchemy has the power to delude people, too." Al sighed.
"Yeah...I guess does." Ed agreed then looked at you. "How's your head (Name)? Does it hurt?" He asked.
"No. I'm alright, it's just a scratch." You replied lightly touching the bandaid on your head.
"Phew! That's a relief. Major Hughes would kill us if he saw you hurt." Ed admitted, both him and Al's expression turned blue.
Then the sound of a carriage was heard.
Then before you and the boys entered the carriage you were stopped.
"Hey!" A voice shouts.
You and the boys turn around to see a girl in a teal dress with long dark blue hair.
"I'm sorry about everything I did and said..." She began. "You guys really are terrific alchemists!" She girl complimented the three of you.
"Uh, yeah we are...but, who are you?" Ed asked.
"Wait a second, is that..." Al began.
"Clause." You finished.
Clause blushed a little and nodded.
Ed and Al looked panicked and screamed in confusion.
"Will you boys grow up!" Clause yelled at them.
"You guys didn't realize Clause was a girl?" You asked, dumbfounded.
"Of course we didn't. It's kinda hard when she was dressed like a paperboy!" Ed and Al both said together.
Clause sweat dropped.
When Ed and Al were in the carriage you were about to enter when Clause stopped you.
"(Name) wait!" Clause says.
You turned to face her and ended having her wrap her arms around your waist.
"Thank you for everything! You like a real sister to me." Clause said, burying her face into your stomach.
"Clause..." You spoke, looking down at her.
"You must come back to visit sometime! You have to promise!" Clause said.
You placed your hand on her head, causing her to look up at you.
"I promise...Clause." You promised.
Clause smiled brightly.
Then you and the Elric brothers were on your way. Ed, Al, and you opened the back door of the carriage.
"You look a lot prettier when you don't dress like a paperboy!" Ed called out to Clause.
Clause smiled brightly and waved at you and the brothers goodbye.
{in the carriage}
Ed and Al sat next to each other, letting you have a seat to yourself so you could sleep and you were. Ed gazed at you sleeping then looked at his hand when he touched your blood.
"Cold...blood...her body was warm but her blood is ice cold. Why is that? (Name) is a really odd character..." Ed thought himself.
hey guys thank for being soooooooo patient!!!
