Chapter 28
Charles shifted in his spot as he tried to get comfortable on the bed. He felt warms arms slip under his arms before interlocking with his chest.
"Ahhh, good morning love." Angela said sleepily, her eyes still shut. Charles groaned before turning to face her. He opened his eyes to see Angela opening her blue eyes to meet his sea green eyes.
"Mornin' sleepyhead." Charles replied with a smile, making Angela giggle. "You always were a dork, but you're my handsome dork." Angela said brushing her thumb under his eye. He sighed in relief at the warmth of her touch. A strand of her blonde hair fell in front her face as she continued to smile at him. He grasped her hand and kissed it.
"Hehe, come, my gentleman, let's get ready for today." Angela said getting up. As she stood up, she was quickly dragged back down to the bed, a yelp following.
"Charlie!" She whined as he held her close. "I'm sure they can work without us for an hour or two." Charles yawned. She sighed before snuggling in close to him.
'What's a few hours going to hurt?' She wondered as the familiar pull of sleep brought her back to dreamland. As she slept, she began to dream of a future for herself and Charles. She imagined a small, blonde-haired and green eyed girl sitting between the two as Charles read her a story and the agents sat around the three. She glanced at Charles as he read from a storybook and the girl smiling along. The girl turned to her and stared at Angela.
"Mommy?" The girl asked, causing her to look at her. "What is it sweetie?" She replied. "Thank you, for everything." Angela gasped lightly as the girl crawled over to her and laid in her lap. Angela smiled as she placed a hand on her head. Angela looked up to see Charles and the rest smiling at them.
"You do look adorable together. But, it's time to wake up honey." Charles spoke. Angela's eyes snapped open to see Charles shaking her awake, already geared up.
"Angi, wake up." He whispered. Angela sat up and yawned as she stretched. Charles smiled as she stood up groggily and walked to the bathroom. Hearing the shower running, Charles walked to the mess hall and created some tea for Angela. As he finished, he glanced at the door to see Angela in her Valkyrie suit walking over to him as she yawned.
"Here, some tea to help you wake up." Charles said before she passed by. "Coffee sounds very good to me." Angela said, still half asleep. Charles smirked before grabbing her waist and twirling her towards him, earning a yelp from the doctor.
"Hey! But coffee sounds good, tea is blech!" Angela said making a face. "tsk, tsk, who's the doctor that told me caffeine was bad for the body?" Charles asked raising an eyebrow.
"Someone else, I know I never said that." Angela said crossing her arms. "I remember it was you. Now drink." Charles ordered. Angela sighed before taking the cup from him and sipping it.
"Mmm, is this chamomile?" She asked. "Only for you, my sweet dove." Charles said as the rest of the agents began to trickle in. Charles and Angela grabbed their food and sat next to each other as Aaron and Lena walked over to them.
"So, you two are a thing now?" Angela asked biting into her eggs. "I guess so." Aaron replied before Lena smacked his shoulder.
"We are you dolt. I love you, and nothing is going to change that." Lena said. "But do explain when you first had feelings for Aaron. I would love to hear this." Charles said grinning.
"W-well, after the incident on the highway, I-I kinda had feelings for Aaron." Lena replied as her face became red.
"So, you mean it was love at first sight?" Charles asked. "Not like that!" Lena shouted, causing some agents to stare at her.
"So, you mean after we rescued him from the boulders. When he was still in the medbay." Angela said smirking. Lena could barely hide her face as she squealed in embarrassment. Aaron just sighed and held his head down. He scooted closer to Lena and grabbed her face as he kissed her. Some agents laughed as Apollo and Barnes cheered for him.
"AARON!" Lena yelled with a red face. The weaponsmith just laughed along as Lena tried to cover her face from embarrassment. Charles and Angela giggled as Lena squealed into Aaron's chest.
"Well, it was either do that or listen to her story and by God it can be annoying when she rambles." Aaron said. "Pffft, tell me about." Jennie said sitting next to Charles.
"Oh you want to know annoying, look whos talking miss 'Asks Questions Non-Stop'." Barnes said behind her. Jennie turned to see the leader of the Unit smirking at her.
"CHLOE!" She shouted with glee as she stood up and hugged her tightly. "Hahaha, oh it's good to see you little one." Chloe said ruffling her hair.
"Yeah, now we have someone to bother Barnes when we need to escape. She can be a dull at times, no offense." Atticus said crossing his arms. Barnes glared at the man before softening to a smile.
"That I can agree with." She said. "Alright, well I think I'll go do some weapons training, after the sniper, I need to improve my aim." Charles said standing up and taking care of food and kissing Angela before departing.
"You're lucky to have him Angi, he's so nice and caring." Lena said. "He's a powerful ally and a pretty awesome dude." Aaron chimed in.
"Danke. He truly is a good guy." Angela said finishing her food. "That's my boy for ya." David said patting her shoulder.
"I remember he was such an innocent and adorable baby boy, oh they grow up so fast." Julie said. Angela giggled lightly as she watched the two converse with each other, like they had before.
"I just wanted to ask, are you sure there is nothing wrong with me and Charlie? I know you said before it was alright, but call me skeptical." Angela said. Julie looked at her before smiling.
"Yes my dear Angela, it's alright. You make him happy. That's all I ever want him to be." Julie replied. The doctor smiled before continuing her food.
~Charles~
"Why are we here?" The Rider asked as Charles grabbed a sniper from the weapons rack. "I need to improve my aim that's all." He replied.
"But you have me. You don't need to 'train'." The Rider said. "That may be so, but I need to be using my own strength and skills instead of relying on your power. I am grateful for it has helped me in the past, but if I am to ever to be any good, I'll need to use my own skills." Charles informed him. The Rider pondered on his words before growning silent. Charles walked to the shooting range and placed the rifle down. Adjusting the distance, he aimed down the sight before sighing.
'Breath in, breathe out.' He replayed the Rider's instructions from before. As his sights rested on the target, his finger pushed backwards on the trigger, igniting the rifle to fire the bullet. the sound resonated within the facility as Charles sighed and flexed his shoulder.
"Man, Ana wasn't kidding, recoils suck." He said to himself. "But I don't think I'm ready for snipers just yet. Let's see, ah here we go." He said placing the sniper back on the racks. He grabbed an assault rifle and walked back to the range, only to see McCree firing away with his pistol.
"You're already good with a pistol Jesse, why do you need to practice?" He asked the gunslinger.
"Jennie's been bossin' me bout' keepin' my skills in shape. Only place I can get some peace and quite really." McCree replied, causing Charles to smirk.
"She's only looking out for you man. Something I never did for her." Charles replied as a memory began to resurface.
~Flashback~
'No, this searing pain, stop it. PLEASE!' Charles begged as he sat in an alleyway. 'What's the matter? Didn't you enjoy killing that worthless scumbag? He deserved it, after all, he did kill an innocent person. Besides, isn't Overwatch meant to stop people like him?' The Rider asked with a husky laugh.
"No, we're not meant to kill. We're meant to bring peace and justice, AHHHH!" Charles screamed, causing some bystanders to leave quickly, thinking Charles as just another methhead.
'Just listen, there is more evil people that need to be punished. Let me go, I'll do everything.' The Rider said. Charles stood up shakily as he clutched his head. He heard footsteps walk over to him.
"Look at this fool, he's so fucking doped up he can't stop the pounding in his skull." A man said. Four others began to laugh as the head man walked over to him and pushing him to the wall.
"L-look, I don't want any trouble guys." Charles pleaded. "Hehe, he must be sobering up after his high. I'm sure he's got cash on him." The man said.
"I-I don't have any money, please just go. I don't want to witness it again." He pleaded with tears in his eyes.
"The fuck is wrong with this dude?" One of the men asked. "Don't know, but let's put him out of his misery." The lead man said producing a knife. Charles backed off in fear before the same pain came back.
"Please, NO!!!!!!!" He yelled as he fell to his knees. He stared at the ground as fire burned the inside of skull, destroying any muscle tissues. The men laughed as they encircled the pained man. Charles growled as he pulled his blonde hair.
"G-get a-away from me!" He yelled before the men watched in shock as Charles's skin melted off. The monster stood up as it erupted into flames. A raspy laugh escaped his mouth as he turned to the men.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk, should've taken the boys' offer. Now you'll know the pain you've caused." The monster growled with glee. One man tried to run before the skeleton grabbed his collar and brought him back. He grabbed his cheeks with his burning hand, slowly roasting the man's skin.
"Die." The skeleton spoke, the fire racing it's way across the man's face, muffling his screams. The skeleton opened his hand as the body flopped down. His head completely blackened.
"What the fuck?" A man said backing off. His friends began to back off as the skeleton inched its way forward.
"You've been judged, prepare for your deaths." The skeleton croaked before he doubled over in pain.
"NO, not now!" The skeleton roared as muscle and skin began to reform on half of his face. "Go, get out of here NOW!" Charles yelled to the men. The all turned and ran as fast as they could. Charles's skin began to reform as he took control again.
'What the hell is your problem? They were crooks!' The skeleton berated him. "No they weren't, they were innocents." Charles choked out. As he was having a talk with the skeleton, a woman happened to pass by. She glanced over to see a man with blonde hair and a beard. Her blue eyes stared at him as he sat there, breathing heavily. Her blue eyes scanned the man as she sympathized him. She watched as he stood up and began to walk away.
"What are you looking at liebling?" A Swiss-accented female asked. The woman looked to the ground and saw the man the skeleton killed.
"Oh my god!" She said running to his side. She turned over the man and saw his burned head. "Ah!" She yelped, causing the Swiss woman to run to the woman's side.
"Jennie? Are you al- Oh my god." The woman said before pulling out her phone and calling for an ambulance. Jennie looked up to see the man gone.
"He's dead." The Swiss said in defeat. "Did you see that man Angela? He looked familiar." Jennie asked.
"What man?" Angela replied. "Nevermind, must've been my imagination." She said as the sirens of the ambulance resonated throughout the neighborhood.
~End Flashback~
"Hello, Charlie, you there?" McCree asked. Charles shook off the moment of hesitation. "Oh, yeah sorry McCree, just zoned out there." Charles said with a smile.
"Well, I hope you know that now you're here, she doesn't have to be alone. I can tell she missed you very much." McCree said holstering his pistol. Charles continued to fire his rifle as the cowboy tipped his hat and left.
'You okay? I can tell something is bothering you.' The Rider asked. "Heh, was it that obvious?" Charles replied.
'We share the same mind genius, I can tell when something is troubling you. Wanna talk about it?' The Rider asked.
"Nah, it was just some bad memories of the past. I'm fine. Really." Charles said. The Rider grew silent as Charles placed the rifle back on the rack and left. He shoved his hands into his pockets as he walked down the hall. The hall was empty as everyone was either in their rooms or still eating breakfast. He went to his room and opened to reveal an undressed Angela putting on clothing. Her hair was damp after a show. Red faced, Charles shut the door instantly as his birthing became high. After a few minutes, the door opened to reveal a clothed Angela in her Valkyrie suit, her face red.
"I-I'm sorry, I should've knocked first." Charles said. Angela sighed as her face died down and a smile appeared on her face.
"I was embarrassed because I thought someone was coming in, but for you Charlie, consider it an early present for something." Angela said kissing his cheek as she walked out. Charles stood there, completely embarrassed, as Aaron walked by.
"Hey Charlie, we're going to the mission room, you coming?" He asked before noticing his red face.
"You alright there lover boy?" He asked teasingly. Charles snapped his head towards the weaponsmith as his eyes grew dark red.
"Don't you even say a thing." He threatened him. Aaron raised his hands up as the two began walking to the command room. As they made their way, Lena blinked behind the two and latched her arms around Aaron's neck.
"Hiya!" She said cheerily. "Ack, mornin' Lena." Aaron replied as she forced him to give her a piggyback ride.
"God how old are you?" He asked before he received a slight tap on the head. "That's improper to ask a lady her age." She retorted. As the three entered the command room, Angela, Jack, Ana, Genji, Zenyatta, Barnes and the Unit, stood around the holovid.
"Ah, there you three are." Barnes said. "Morning to you too." Aaron said letting Lena down. Charles stood by Angela's side as Lena peppered Aaron's face with kisses.
"Okay jeez Lena, stop it." Aaron said laughing lightly. Julie and David walked in and nodded to the group in greetings.
"So, what's this all about?" Charles asked. "Well, so far we've taken down multiple warehouse and freed at least 30 test subjects. So far, only 12 have not been accounted for. Two have been killed thanks to the efforts of Charles here." Barnes said.
"Yeah, about Charles." Atticus began. "What is it?" She asked. "I propose to not have him on any of these missions." He said.
"What do you mean?" David asked. "After that incident, what if he loses control again?" Atticus asked.
"You have a point." David replied growing silent. Charles stared at the group as they began to converse. Angela gripped his hand and frowned.
"I'll stay to examine him fully, so he's on medical leave." Angela said. Charles looked at the group before turning and leaving the room. Angela sighed as the door closed shut.
"Really Atticus?" Dimitri asked. "What? Did you want to die because some kid with a demon could have another episode and possibly put all our lives in jeopardy?" Atticus asked. Julie and David looked to the ground as the group registered the emotions flowing through.
"I believe, a better course of action would be wise next time, Atticus." Zenyatta said. Angela glared at the tactician as he stared at them.
"You didn't have to be so rude." Angela huffed before turning and taking off after Charles. "Look, I'm sorry for being honest. I'm looking out for the team." Atticus defended himself. Julie and David walked out as Jack and Ana sighed.
"Smooth Atticus, real smooth." Aaron said. "Fine, I'm sorry, he can join us. But if he has another episode, I warned you." Atticus retorted. Angela walked after Charles as the blonde walked down the hall, his head held down.
"Charlie." She said stopping 10 feet from him. "He's right, I'm just a ticking time bomb, waiting to explode at the wrong moment." Charles said sighing. Angela shook her head before rushing forward and hugging him from behind.
"No, I don't believe that. Look how far we've come now, you've gotten this far, don't let someone discourage you." Angela said. 'She's right, just because of one fallout doesn't mean it'll be the end of your work as an agent.' The Rider said.
"If anything happens, I'll be there with you, by your side." Angela said. "Thank you Angi." Charles said placing his hands on hers. Angela grinned as she steered him back to the command center.
"Look, I understand you don't trust me now, but you need me. Unless you have a better idea on facing these elementals." Charles said crossing his arms. Angela stood next to him as she stared at Atticus.
"I apologize for what I've said earlier Charles." Atticus said. "You had every right to do so Atticus, I understand. But for now, let's focus on stopping these elementals." Charles said studying the map.
"Well, so far, what we've seen from the tapes, their is a water elemental." Ana said pulling up a video of a dark haired man manipulating the waves of a lake to flood a small village. Charles glared as the water swept a family from it's home in a flash.
"We've got to act." Charles said turning around before Julie froze his foot. "Hold your horses Charlie, think. He controls water, and what does water do to fire?" She asked him.
"It douses it out, but I have a different form od fire." Charles said. "Fine, but we'll need to think of a plan, so far, it's been radio silence." David said.
"For now, this meeting is adjourned." Jack said. The group nodded as they dispersed. "For now, you better get practicing on your aim. You can't rely on the Rider forever." Aaron said. Angela said her goodbyes as she left with Ana to fix her biotic rifle. Some of the agents complained that her damage was too much for a support in the simulations. As Charles and Aaron walked into the range, Aaron grabbed an assault rifle for the rack and tossed it to him.
"Here, I'll modify it to your liking later on. For now, just work on your aim." He said before being pulled away. Charles smiled at the two before walking towards the shooting range and aiming the rifle down. He sighed as holographic targets appeared. He began to fire at each one, every time he finished off one, he quickly aimed his rifle at the next. After a few minutes, the practice was finished as he smiled. He looked at the scoreboard to see he placed 3rd place, only behind Lena and McCree.
"Oh well." He said returning the rifle to the racks and leaving for the rec room. He opened the door to see Hana dancing to music coming from the TV. He looked to see the screen showing a YouTube video.
"What are you doing?" He asked, making her stop and freeze. "N-nothing!" Hana quickly replied.
"Summon the Wave!" The TV replied. "Okay, it's good song, I've been listening to him for a while. Lucio doesn't like listening to it, but I do. I want to use his songs in my streams." Hana said. Charles turned and left for his room, leaving Hana to continue dancing. He entered to see Angela sitting on the bed, reading a book.
"Oh, hey there Charlie." She said smiling. He walked over and flopped next to her as he laid on her lap.
"You bored?" She asked. "What gave it away?" Charles said with a smile. Angela chuckled before placing the book down. She pulled Charles up and cuddled him.
"Let's sleep for a bit, I don't think they'll mind." She said yawning. Charles yawned at the same time as he was lulled to sleep from Angela's voice.
"Sleep my dear." She said. "Yes ma'am." He said listening to the sound of Angela's heart. A soothing sound bringing peace to him.
A/N: Thank you all for reading, I've been playing some Overwatch recently, and after Orisa I might bring her in the next chapter. But along with that, I've recently gotten the game Mass Effect Andromeda and Destiny. Right now, I'm trying to romance and alien for, research purposes *cough*. I am excited for Destiny 2 though, the teaser trailers for them with Cayde (Nathan Fillion). I absolutely loved them and I can't wait for it. Hopefully, I'll be able to pre-order the game, but I can't have my hope up too much. Enough with my ramblings heh, I hope you enjoyed this chapter and a huge shoutout to Wuss_DWimp for allowing me to use his characters in my story. Thanks man, anywho, have a nice day everyone! Tata for now!
