Chapter 38
As the ship landed in the hangar of the HQ, the agent disembarked as Charles and Jennie stood looking at the finished building.
"The repairs are going good Commander, just a few more weeks and the base will be good as new." A man said.
"Very good, but the command center is at least up and running?" Charles asked. "Aye Commander." He said.
"Good, get some rest, you and your workers." Charles said. The builder nodded as he left. "Feels like yesterday we were here." Jennie said with a smile.
"Yeah, it truly does." He replied. "He would be proud of the man you've become Charlie." Julie said patting his shoulder.
"I know mom, I just wish he was still here to see Overwatch reformed." Charles replied as a frown replaced his smile.
"C'mon Commander, let's see how the building is." Aaron said slapping his back as he dragged Charles towards the HQ. Julie and David watched as the two walked to the building and enetered.
"He sure has grown in the last years. I'm kinda sad that I didn't get to spend more time with him." David said frowning.
"Then, let us rejoice that we can see our grown son here and now." Julie said kissing him before placing her head on his shoulder.
"Still the beautiful woman as before." He said as they walked after Charles and Aaron. 'Perhaps, even Gabriel will return.' David thought.
"Aaron release Charlie now!" Angela demanded. "Why would I do that? He is an annoying brother that needs to be put in his place!" Aaron retorted with a grin. Julie and David watched as Aaron held him in a headlock, Lena giggling as Angela berated the weaponsmith. Charles smiled sheepishly as Aaron laughed heartedly. Julie heard a crackle of lightning as she felt a drop of water on her face.
"Oh?" She said looking up as another droplet fell on her forehead. "Alright boys, time to head in. Sorry Commander, we'll have to finish later. Seems like a storms brewing." The worker apologized.
"You're fine, let's just head in for now. Everyone, inside now!" Charles shouted. The agents and workers ran into the building as rain began to pour on the pavilion of the base. Charles kept the door open as everyone ran in, some laughing while others grumbled. Charles walked in, covered in rain, looked at the rest of the agents as they conversed. Angela walked over and smiled at him.
"C'mon Commander, let's get you out of those cold clothes and into warm ones." She said. As they walked down the hallway, they headed to their room.
"So glad they rebuilt the rooms. Come, I know where mine is." She said pulling him along. Reaching her room, she opened it to reveal a regular room that had a queen-sized bed, bathroom, dressers, and a closet. She walked over and opened the closet to reveal clothes for hers and Charles.
"Here, change out of those and put these on." She ordered pushing him into the bathroom. "Yes mom." He said teasingly.
"You better believe I'm your 'mom'." She said winking at him, causing a deep red to engulf his face. She walked over and pecked his cheek as she walked to the door.
"Now go clean up leader, the others will be waiting for you in the command center." She said as she walked out of the room and left. Charles smiled before a column of fire appeared.
"Don't get distracted, Talon is still out there." The Rider said. "Yeah, yeah. Anyways, could ya disappear maybe? I need to change and talk to the troops." Charles said. The Rider scoffed before disappearing. Charles stripped himself of his damp clothes and dried himself with a towel.
'Who thought I would become the new leader.' He thought as he placed his clean clothes on. He sighed as he exited his room and left for the command center. As he entered, he noticed the agents talking with each other, some even relaxing. His troops, no, his family was back.
"Gather round." He said as all chatter ceased. "So, as we all now know, Overwatch is back and better than ever. Though our home was destroyed, we were granted a new one thanks to the efforts of these fine workers. Thank you." Charles said.
"No problem Commander, we're just glad Overwatch is back and an even more powerful fighting force." The worker said.
"And we thank you, but for now, we must focus our attention on Talon and their warriors. After that devastating attack, we have regrouped under the United Nations as the final defense against them. So, does anyone have any idea where they might be hiding?" Charles asked.
"We've been monitoring their chatter sir, and we've found out who's pulling the strings." A man spoke.
"Who are you?" "I'm Brian sir, I'm a cryptologist. I'm new to Overwatch." He replied. "Welcome aboard Brian, now tell me, who is the snake's head?" Charles asked.
"A 'Zeljan Kurst'." He replied. Everyone muttered as Aaron's eyes were wide with fear. Charles noticed this and walked over to him.
"You alright?" He asked. "That man, is evil." He replied. 'Indeed, this 'Zeljan Kurst' has blood on his hands, innocent blood. More than Reaper ever has.' The Rider said.
"So, Brian, where have the transmissions been coming from?" He asked. "From the radiowaves, I'd say from Colorado." He replied.
"For the leader of Talon, I thought he'd have his base somewhere out of the country." Angela said. "Yeah, so we'll need to his them hard and fast. I'm not sure if we can save the elemental warriors they created though." Charles said.
"Sir, hi, I'm Margret. I began researching the serum, thanks to Mr and Mrs. Williams, I've begun to create a synthetic antidote." She said.
"Really? That's wonderful news!" Lena exclaimed. Margret grinned as Charles nodded. "How well does this antidote work?" He asked.
"Well, I'll need a subject to test it out." She replied. Julie walked over to her and nodded. "Mom, are you sure?" Jennie asked.
"Yes my daughter, I've had enough of these powers. I want to live a normal life than to be looked down upon as a monster." She said. David walked over and nodded.
"Me too." He said. "Well Margret, you've got your test subjects. Good luck." Charles said. She nodded as she led the two to her lab. Charles turned to the rest as he brought up the state of Colorado from the holo map.
"Brian, from where the radiowaves generate from?" Charles asked. Brian walked over and tapped on his holopad before grabbing a pen and drawing a circle around an abandoned cave.
"It appears, that it is generating from this place." Brian said. "Athena, do a geo scan of the cave please." Charles asked.
"It appears there is a heavily fortified base under the rocks. Mounted MG nests, a 24 hour guard posts, and many soldiers." Athena reported.
"I suggest a bomb drop, to scatter them." Lena proposed. "Even if we did do a bomb drop, they'll regroup and it'll be more difficult to find them." Aaron said.
"What do you propose?" Charles asked. "I propose, that me and the Unit infiltrate the base while you and Overwatch distract them." He replied.
"It's a good plan, but we'll need to wait for Margret and her serum. Hopefully, we'll be able to save the elementals. Though, we had to kill some of them." Angela said frowning.
"I agree, but we'll make Talon suffer for the innocents they've enslaved." Reinhardt bellowed. The rest of the agents cheered in unison.
"Alright, alright, for now let's get the rest of the base rebuilt. Then we can pull off our counter attack." Charles said. As he said this, the storm had stopped.
"The storm is gone." Angela said. "Then let's get to work." Charles replied. He turned and smiled at her.
"It's time for us to regroup then go on the offensive. For all we know, Talon doesn't think we're alive, that gives us the advantage. But with Overwatch reinstating, we'll have to be careful." Charles said.
"I understand, but I'll be there with you. Together." She said as she rest her head on his shoulder.
"I know liebling, and I will always be there for you." He replied kissing her head. She glanced up and smirked.
"That's my line." She said with a smirk. "Guess you're rubbing off on me." Charles said as he twirled her around and kissed her. Agents awed them as Charles's face became a tinted red. Angela giggled lightly and returned the kiss.
"Maybe later~" She said winking at him.
~Talon~
Reaper wandered the halls before entering Zeljan's office. "Oh, Reaper, what do I owe the pleasure?" He asked twirling in his seat to face him.
"I'm quitting Talon." He replied. Zeljan clicked his tongue before sitting up straight. "What made you think this?" He asked.
"The Williams children, they were never apart of my vendetta against Morrison. Now that he is dead, I have no reason to be here." Reaper said. Zeljan sighed as he stood up and walked over to the cloaked man. He placed a hand on his shoulder and gripped it.
"I'm sorry Gabriel, but I can't allow that." He said. As he said that, Zeus walked in and crossed his arms.
"You see, you have valuable intel on our whereabouts, and if say that information were to reach the UN, I'd have to kill you. But I don't want to, honestly, but you'll give me no option." He said. Zeus walked over to Reaper as lightning crackled around him. Gabriel glared under his mask as Zeljan looked at him.
"What's your verdict? Leave and die, or stay and fight the group you hate. Your choice." Zeljan said. Gabriel glanced at Zeus as the lightning elemental winked.
"Yeah, to be with my family." He said kicking Zeljan back. The leader stumbled before sighing. "I'm sorry Reyes, but that was a poor option. Zeus, take care of this trash please." He said dusting off his shoulder.
"Sorry sir, but I've enough of your bullshit orders and prattle." Zeus said firing a lightning bolt at the leader, knocking him unconscious.
"Gabriel, we need to move." He said walking to the door. "Why are you helping me?" Reaper asked.
"Because like you, I'm tired of his prattle and his senseless orders." Zeus replied opening the door and electrocuting a grunt.
"There should be a vehicle on the surface, we need to move now." Reaper nodded as the two ran towards the stairs.
"Thank you, Zeus." Reaper said. "It's cool, and the name's Jordan." Zeus replied. The two exited the office as they dashed down the corridor before Sombra appeared.
"tsk, tsk, tsk, my, my, how the mighty have fallen. And how the fallen have fallen even more." She said with a smirk.
"Get out of the way Sombra." Reaper growled. "And what? Let you leave with our best agent? Maybe I will, but I need to ask you something." She said. The two looked at each other before glancing at Sombra.
"What do you want?" He asked. "What is Charles Williams to you?" Reaper stood as he clenched his fists.
"He is a son I never had. He made me feel, joy, happiness, even love. He made me feel like 'Gabriel' again." Reaper said. Sombra looked at him as purple tendrils extended from her nails and entered a control box.
"The alarms are disabled. I told them you were on the bottom floor. There is a plane fueled and ready. Go." Sombra ordered. Zeus ran past as Gabriel stopped next to her. He removed his mask and handed it to her.
"Thank you." Sombra smiled as Gabriel ran after Jordan. Widowmaker ran up and looked at her. "Did you find them?" She demanded.
"No nina, I didn't." She reported. The sound of a plane could be heard taking off. Widowmaker cursed under her breath as she ran past the hacker.
'Hurry Gabe, your family needs you.' She thought with a smile.
