Chapter 39

~A month later~

"Well, the buildings' been restored sir." A worker said. Charles patted his shoulder and nodded. "Thank you, for everything you've done for this place. But you'll need to leave for now, until Talon is destroyed." Charles said.

"10-4 sir." The worker said as the rest of them left. Charles sighed and walked to the command center as Lawson, Ana, Winston, and Angela stood around the console.

"We should attack, while we have the element of surprise." Ana said. "But, like Athena said, they'll still be waiting for us." Lawson replied.

"What do you suggest? Sending in the Unit?" Ana retorted. Charles stepped to the command console as a map of Talon's base appeared. He looked at it as the sounds of Ana and Lawson's argument faded.

'I know what you're thinking, and it's crazy. We'd be torn to shreds, even with my invulnerability.' The Rider said.

'Perhaps, but do you have a better idea?' Charles retorted. 'Well, one that doesn't revolve in us being Swiss cheesed.' The Rider said. He glanced up as Angela and Winston looked at him.

"Enough!" He said, silencing the two. "Bickering with each other is not going to help us decide." Charles said.

"Sorry Commander, but Mr. Lawson suggests we attack now. But what he doesn't know, is that they'll be waiting for a frontal assault." Ana said.

"Well, we need to attack them soon. I don't think they would just sit and allow us to attack." Charles replied. Hana ran into the room as she breathed heavily.

"Easy Hana, what is it?" Angela asked. "A Talon....ship....has landed." She said. Charles and the rest took off as Hana slumped down the wall.

"I'll just...sit here." She heaved. The 5 entered the hangar bay, troopers stood at the ready. The door opened as two figures jumped down.

"Halt! State your business and intent." Charles demanded as he held a pistol. A dark cloaked man walked up to them as they other cracked his shoulders and fingers.

"Well isn't this a welcoming committee." The cloaked man said. The dark cloaked figure removed his hood and looked at Charles.

"Charlie." Reyes said. Charles's eyes widened as he dropped his pistol. "What are you doing here Gabriel? I thought you were with Talon?" Ana asked, holding her biotic rifle at his chest.

"Not anymore, I realized the error of my ways. I wish to seek redemption." Gabriel replied. Tears began falling down his cheeks as he fell to his knees.

"Go ahead, send him out. I deserve to die, but I never wanted to hurt you or Jennie. My own arrogance got the better of me. Please, forgive me." Gabriel pleaded. Charles walked over to him and knelt in front of him.

"That's all I wanted to hear." Charles said as tears cascaded down his face. Gabriel glanced up as Charles smiled at him. He wrapped his arms around Gabriel and cried into his shoulder.

"I'm just so glad I have my Uncle again." Charles said. Gabriel smiled lightly and held him close. Charles's weight forced him to sit down and continue to hold him. Jennie, Julie, and David walked over and as Jennie dashed forward and dogpiled on the two.

"Oh my!" Gabriel squeaked as the two clutched him tightly. The agents lowered their weapons as the Commander of Overwatch and his sister were two little children again. Ana smiled as Gabriel wrapped his arms around the children, tears falling rapidly.

"I'm so sorry, I'm sorry for everything, my grudge with Jack, me abandoning you when you needed me most. I'm sorry for my behavior. I'm so sorry." He sobbed. Charles looked up at him and grinned.

"I'm just glad you're back Uncle Gabby." Charles replied. Gabriel smiled and patted the both of them before standing up.

"Gabriel Reyes, reporting for duty, sir." He said saluting Charles. "It's good to have you back Gabe." Ana said nodding.

"Aye, welcome back comrade." Reinhardt replied. Torbjorn nodded as Lena blinked over and grinned at him. The click of heels caused him to glance up to see Angela walk over and look at him.

"I'm sorry Gabriel, for making you like this." She said bowing. Reyes placed a hand on her shoulder, causing her to look up.

"It's not your fault, without you, I wouldn't have been alive." He said. Angela smiled as the man glad in black showed his smile.

"Where's Jack?" He asked, making everyone frown. "I don't know how to say this, but he went down fighting." Charles said.

"At least he went out with a bang." Was Gabriel's reply. Charles heard commotion coming from the door. He turned to see a archer walk in with two security detail trying to stop him.

"Sorry sir, but he just walked in like he lived here." One said. "It's alright, why are you here, Hanzo?" Charles asked.

"I've listened to my brothers words, and I have decided to follow in his footsteps." He replied. Genji walked over and stared at him through his visor.

"Genji, will you teach me?" He asked. Genji glanced at Zenyatta as the monk put up two thumbs up. The cyborg turned and sighed.

"I will not teach you. But you can learn from your mistakes by becoming one of us." He replied. "'One of us'?" Hanzo asked.

"By becoming an Overwatch agent." Genji informed him. "Fine, I shall become an agent." Hanzo said nodding.

"Welcome to the team Mr. Shimada." Charles said shaking his hand. "Commander." Charles grinned as he returned to the console.

"Athena, did you get a thorough geo scan of the location?" Lawson asked. "Indeed Commander Lawson, now with more data, I can theorize that this is their last secret underground base." She replied.

"Good, but how will we be able to attack?" Winston asked. "From what I've pieced together, they have guards posted by the entrance,  AA guns protected by the elements, at least a hundred grunts and 10-12 remaining elementals." Athena reported.

"That's good, less elementals to worry about." Charles said. He glanced over to see Julie, David, and Margret.

"I apologize, so what was the verdict?" He asked Margret. "Well, the results were excellent sir. I've successfully created an antidote to the Avatar serum. Your mother and father are normal again." She said with a smile. Julie and David nodded as Charles sighed in relief.

"So, now we corner off any elemental and use the antidote. Dwindle their numbers." Aaron said. Charles nodded.

"See if you can create more of it, we'll need it for the battle." Charles said as the scientist nodded and hurried away.

"Can't we use a bomb?" Ana asked. "It'll take to long, Talon is amassing it's forces to either defend or come here to finish you off." Gabriel replied.

"Then what can we do?" Lena asked. The agents began arguing about what to do as Charles leaned on the console, unaware of the fight between his troops.

'What do you suggest?' Charles asked. 'Since shooting them through a gun and creating a bomb would take too long, I suggest we be the ones to administer them. With my invulnerability, we can take the elementals out of the fight. Then focus on Zeljan and the rest.' The Rider replied.

'Good enough for me.' Charles replied. He slammed his palm on the console, silencing everyone.

"Like I said, arguing with each other is getting nowhere." Charles said as the Rider appeared next to them.

"So this is the mighty demon." Gabriel said looking him over. "And you're Gabriel Reyes. Anyways, me and Charles have created a plan about taking care of the elementals." The Rider said.

"What is your plan?" Lawson asked. The Rider walked over to the console and twirled it about. "Once Margret has finished with her serum, me and Charles will be the ones to administer the serum into the elementals." He finished.

"Pfft, like you'll be able to give those elementals the serum without being writtled with bullets." Ana said. The Rider walked over to the sniper and stared her down.

"Is your body invulnerable to physical attacks?" He asked. Ana looked at him before sighing. "That's what I thought. Now if there is no other objections, can we carry on?" The Rider asked as he disappeared. Lena snickered as Ana glared at her.

"Wot? That was some grade A sass, from a demon no less hahaha!" She said laughing. "Okay, so, are we in agreement then?" Charles asked. Everyone nodded as Julie and David smiled.

"Alright, we have a plan for the elementals. Now we need a plan for the rest of them." Ana said. "What plan? We just take them out hehe." Lena said using her fingers as her pistols and made shooting noises.

"It's not as easy as it sounds Lena, you need to be precise in where you're shooting your target." Aaron said. Lena scoffed and rolled her eyes.

"He's right Auntie, you can't just think of plan in an instant. You need to figure out the variables in your plan or you will lead your troops into an ambush." Charles said. Lena sighed and leaned on the wall, blowing hair out of her face.

"So how do we deal with the gunners?" Lawson asked. "We go ahead with the bombing run, hopefully, it'll run them above ground, giving both teams an advantage in an open field firefight." Charles replied.

"Alright, I'll talk to the higher ups and see what I can do. Get your ground force ready to move. God knows how long they've had time to do in the span of a month." Lawson said walking away. Aaron walked over to Charles and patted his back.

"I hope you know what you're doing, also, here is a present." The weaponsmith said handing him a modified assault rifle.

"Thanks Aaron, and thank your Commander and Squad for joining us in this battle." He said smiling at him.

"From what I can see, we're all family here." He said before leaving. "Meeting adjourned." Charles said as the console flickered off. He walked to the rec room to see the agents and Unit alike relaxing and having a good time.

'Better to give them a great last day, I have a feeling some of them won't be coming back.' The Rider said.

'I hate agreeing with you, but I understand.' Charles replied. Angela sat next to Barnes, Lena, and Hana as they talked and laughed at the others. Lucio played his music as Gabriel spoke with Ana. Charles watched as Ana placed a hand on his shoulder and pulled him into a hug. Hanzo and Genji fought with each other as Aaron cheered on Genji while Apollo gave words of encouragement to Hanzo.

'They're my family, but I have faith that we'll live through this.' He said. The Rider grunted before growing silent. Angela noticed him standing in the doorway and walked over to him.

"You alright?" She asked. "Yeah, just thinking." He replied. Angela glanced at the rest of them as she smiled.

"Don't you fret, we'll all be here after the battle. You have me." She said resting her head on his shoulder.

'If only I can believe that.' Charles thought.

~Talon HQ~

"Mr. Kurst, sir!" A grunt said. "What is it?" The man asked. "We've received reports that Overwatch is gearing up for an attack." He replied.

"What else isn't new?" Zeljan asked. "My shoes, sir." The grunt replied. Zeljan glared at him as the grunt shivered in fear before leaving.

"I swear some people don't get sarcasm." Zeljan said before the click of heels could be heard. "What is it Widowmaker?" He asked swiveling his chair to the wall.

"We're ready. Our 'weapon' is ready as well." She replied. "After weeks of failed results, we've finally created someone who can wield all the elementals without suffering side effects." He said as boots could be heard.

"Agent Avatar, reporting for duty, sir." A gruff voice said. Zeljan grinned as he turned to see a tall, well muscled man with moonlit hair, blue eyes, and a scar running down the side of his face.

"Welcome aboard, Avatar." Zeljan said. "For the glory of Talon!" Avatar shouted. Zeljan nodded as he made his exited.

"Sir, are you sure this is wise? Destroying Overwatch is one thing, but messing with the dead. It's not humane." Widowmaker said.

"Is the mighty Widowmaker feeling? And here I thought you were an emotionless assassin." Zeljan said. Widowmaker gritted her teeth before sighing.

"All I'm saying is that this, raising the dead, it's inhumane. Even for me. We have standards that we follow. This is disgusting." She said walking away. As the room became empty, a column of smoke appeared next to him.

"You're welcome." A man spoke. "Thanks I guess, but our deal is still on." Zeljan said. "Oh sure, you get one of my blades and a resurrected corpse. But I still get your soul." The man said.

"I know Lucifer. Now begone." He snapped. Lucifer glanced at him before sighing in disgust. "That Rider will pay." Zeljan said opening the drawer to reveal a blade similar to the one Jackson had.

"You will die." He said before sheathing is and placing it on his belt loop. He stood up and walked to the main hangar to see the operatives running back and forth.

"So, what do we do?" Sombra asked appearing next to him. "Now, we wait. Overwatch will make its move. While you and the grunts deal with them, I'll draw out the Rider and kill him." He said.

"Good luck with that." The Mexican hacker said before disappearing.

~Overwatch HQ~

"Alright, we head out now!" Charles said. The agents and Unit alike marched to the hangar, dressed and geared for battle.

"You'll be fine Charlie." Angela said as they entered the dropships. Multiple ships lifted into the air as they flew towards the base.

"I got the go ahead for the bomb drop Commander Williams, once it drops, you have the reins." Lawson said.

"WILCO sir, alright ladies and gentlemen, get ready!" He shouted, the agents cheering in unison. "If we survive this, drinks are on me!" Aaron said. The dropships stopped at a safe distance as they watched the bomb fall from the sky and slam into the earth. The explosion rattled the hillside as shockwaves emitted from the drop point.

"Brace for impact!" Reinhardt said in the comms. Everyone grabbed hold the railing as the shockwave of the bomb rattled the ships.

"Damn, what kind of bomb was that Lawson?" Aaron asked. "MOAB. Why?" Lawson replied. "A fucking MOAB? Seriously? This is just an underground base!" Charles retorted.

"It's Talon, Commander. Good hunting." Lawson said before growing silent. "Really hate that man half the time." He grumbled as the ships landed.

"Alpha Company, moving in!" "Beta Company advancing!" "Gamma Company on the move!" The various of troopers said.

"Remember, if you see an Elemental, corner him/her off. Do not engage, I repeat do not engage them. Let me handle them." Charles said. The pounding of gunfire erupted. Charles stayed behind Reinhardt's shield as the bullets peppered against them. Orisa fired a barrier in front of a group of agents as an MG nest targeted their position. Charles glanced up to see a water elemental manipulate water as a wave flushed out a group of agents. Charles grabbed a syringe and charged past agents as he ran and tackled the elemental. He stabbed the syringe and injected the antidote into his body. Charles watched as the man convulsed before going ridged. He placed two fingers on his neck and sighed in relief as the man breathed.

"Margret, you're antidote works." He informed. "Yay! That's great news!" The scientist said. Charles laughed lightly as he stood up and glanced up to see the sky starting to darken, but the light still beat down on him. He ran towards Aaron and pulled out the rest of the syringes.

"The antidote works." He said handing them to Aaron. "That's good to hear, but what am I supposed to do with them?" Aaron asked as he fired at a few operatives.

"Try to save them, I'll go and deal with the mastermind of the operation." Charles said holding his rifle and vaulted over the barrier.

"Charlie!" Jennie shouted. Charles turned and smirked at her before continuing and firing at any operative in his way.

'His name is Zeljan Kurst, fuckers got a lot of bad blood on his hands.' The Rider said. Charles nodded as he sprayed his way past enemies before being thrown to one side.

"Aww, what the hell was that?" He asked holding his arm. He turned to see a man walk over, clad in black. He wore a black mask that reminded him of Jack's 'Soldier 76' persona mask.

"Strike Commander Charles 'Charlie' Williams, A.K.A. The Ghost Rider. My, my, what a surprise indeed." He spoke walking over to him, bullets whizzing past them. Charles crawled backwards, away from the man.

"Who the hell are you?" Charles asked. The man walked over and crouched in front of him. "You could call me an Elemental, but I guess I'm just the Avatar of the elements." He rasped.

'Charles be careful, he seems different from the others.' The Rider warned him. 'I can see that.' He retorted. Charles kicked him back and jumped back to his feet.

"You got some fight in ya, I like that." Avatar said as he dashed forward and sucker punched him in the gut, throwing him off balance.

"Ah!" Charles yelped as he staggered back. He glanced up to see Avatar thrust his palm forward, a torrent of wind blasting Charles 2 meters across the battlefield. He slammed into the ground as sand flew around him.

"What the fuck was that?" He asked. 'That, ow, was a blast of air.' The Rider retorted. Charles stood up groggily to see Avatar running at him, he fist turning bright red.

"You've got to be fucking kidding me." Charles said as his fist slammed into Charles's stomach, burning his gear and his skin.

"Ah!" The two shouted in pain. "That's right, sing for me." Avatar said laughing. He summoned a giant ball of water and engulfed Charles in it.

'This isn't good.' 'THANKS FOR STATING THE OBVIOUS!' Charles shot back. Avatar giggled as he walked around the bubble.

"Ya see, I actually have beef with you. I mean, you did kill me before." He said. Charles struggled to swim to the surface before being pulled back.

"Ah, ah, ah, none of that now. Oh my, it appears that the sun has gone down. But itty bitty Charles can't be a skeleton." He taunted.

'Getting pretty hard to breathe, if you have a plan, now is the time!' Charles shouted. "Screw it." The Rider said as Charles's skin began to boil until a bone skeleton appeared.

"You think because I have fire, it can be doused by earthly water. But, no mortal liquid can quench the flames of Hell." He said as Hellfire ignited, boiling the water around him.

"Huh, the more ya know I guess." Avatar said as the water evaporated before a block of earth appeared and encased the Rider.

'Another fine mess you've gotten us into.' Charles said. "You, are not helping." The Rider spat. He fired two blasts of fire as it slammed against the earth cage.

"Damn it, he must have triple the matter around the cage." The Rider said. 'Well you have an invulnerable body, maybe you could just slam into it after burning it.' Charles suggested.

"This is going to hurt." He said as he fired waves of fire then slamming his shoulder into the molten mud.

'Almost through!' Charles said. "THIS IS HOTTER THAN IT LOOKS CHARLES!" The Rider shouted as he pushed his way through and appeared on the other side, lava seeping down his gear.

"Damn it, you know, I hate you for that." He spat at Avatar. "I'm surprised you made it through anyway. God, you manage to amaze me. Even after our fight from Numbani." Avatar said.

"Numbani?" The Rider said. "You've forgotten about me that easily? That's not your fault, new body." He said as he removed his mask to show the scarred face of Jack Morrison.

"Who are you!?" Charles shouted. "It's your old pal Jackson." Avatar said with a grin. "Jackson? How are you still alive?" The Rider demanded.

"Well, your old pal Lucifer, decided to use me as a little experiment from a man by the name of 'Zeljan Kurst'. Even more fucked up, he decided to bring me back in this body. You see, I don't know who's more fucked up, him or Lucifer. And Lucifer tortured me." Jackson said.

"What the hell?" Damocles said. "Don't look at me, Zeljan promised me his soul to do this. You know me, I can't resist a good deal." Lucifer said. Jackson sighed as he thrusted his hand at Charles, wind pushing him back, slamming into a operative and knocking him out.

"But, I've been dreaming of my revenge. How you made me see those images." Jackson said. "That, was your own doing. Those were the innocents you murdered." Damocles retorted. Jackson scoffed as he walked over and knelt next to the Rider, grabbing his cheekbones and forcing him to look at him.

"You, are so lucky I don't have my Rider powers to show you the 'innocents' you've murdered. But, I didn't think that. I've had something, special, in mind." He said pulling out the blade and jabbing it into the Rider's shoulder.

"You're coming with me." Jackson hissed as he knocked the Rider out, forcing him to change back to Charles. He grabbed his body and hoisted it on his shoulder and walked away. Angela glanced over to see if anyone had needed to be healed until she saw Charles, unconscious on Avatar's shoulder.

"Charlie! Aaron, Lena, help me!" Angela shouted. Aaron and Lena ran over before seeing Charles. The three ran towards him, Lena and Aaron firing at any operative that stood in their way. Angela pulled out her pistol as she aimed at Avatar and fired. He stopped as the bolts hit his back.

"Was that a bee?" He wondered before turning to see the three. "No, just the bitches and a vigilante." He said glaring at them.

"Jack?" Lena asked. "Wrong, try again." He said thrusting his hand out, air pushing them back. A ship appeared behind the two as Zeljan lowered the ramp as Jackson walked on.

"What's with the garbage?" Zeljan asked. "Just some steam I need to let out." Jackson said. He turned and smirked at the three.

"I'll give you a hint, remember the police officer." He said as the door closed and the ship ascended before leaving. The fight was over, the rest of the elementals were normal as bodies littered the ground of Talon operatives. Angela watched as the ship flew away and out of sight.

"Charlie!" She shouted, falling to her knees as tears fell down her face. Jennie walked over to them as her weapon laid on her hip.

"What's going on?" She asked. Lena kneeled next to Angela as she tried to comfort her. "Charlie's been kidnapped by Jack." Angela said.

"He said, 'remember the police-" Lena started before it hit her. "What is it?" Jennie asked. "It's Jackson, he's back. But he's in Jack's body." She finished.
