Chapter 7

Jackson and Charles stood in front of an ornate temple. Charles looked at Jackson before sighing.

"You ready?" Jackson asked. "As ready as I'll ever be." Charles replied hefting his bag on his shoulder before the metal doors opened. A monk came before them and nodded.

"Follow me, he is waiting for you." The monk said as he made his way back into the temple. Charles and Jackson followed the monk until they came upon a giant area ordained with beautiful mosaic pictures and braziers with fire. A man of 90 sat in the middle. It looked as if the fire from the braziers yearned to be with him as the licked their way towards him.

"Greeting Sensei, I have found another." Jackson said bowing. Charles dropped his bag and bowed to the old man.

"I sense you have the Rider within you." The man said. Charles looked up and nodded. "Yes Sensei, but I need help to control him. He tries to claw his way to the surface. I fear for my teammates lives." Charles explained. The old man opened his eyes and smiled before his face melted as the Rider took form.

"You have nothing to fear, you must become one with your Rider if you are to control him." The man said.

'Bah, this old fool knows nothing. His Rider is a fool.' Charles's Rider scowled. The old man returned back to normal, but still retained the voice of the the Rider.

"No, I am not a fool." He said before the man smiled apologetic. "Apologies, he tends to get careless without my permission." He scowled. Charles stepped forward and feel to his knees.

"Teach me." Charles begged. The old man smiled warmly. "Then, prepare yourself."

~5 months later~

Charles wore an orange and black robe as he made his way to where the old monk was to prepare for his meditation.

"The Rider is a vengeful spirit, it takes time to calm him and his voice." The man said. Charles nodded as he closed his eyes and felt himself being sucked back in the psychic plane. He imagined two doors in his mind, one door full of innocence and safety. The other, a dark metal door ordained with red fire chains and skulls. Charles knew about the skulls, they were of his victims that he 'punished'.

He opened the door to see the Rider torturing a punished soul. Sensing the presence of Charles, he dispersed the scene before turning to his host.

"Here for another pep talk?" He growled. Charles stared in the eyeless holes of the Rider. "No, I just wanted to hang out that's all. Why, is it wrong to hang out with your host?" Charles asked walking about.

"No, I just thought you'd be here to 'control' me." The Rider said watching his host walked about. Charles looked at him before chuckling lightly.

"Look, I know you hate being 'controlled' and I don't want that to happen. But we need to work together instead of you just possessing me and going on a rampage." Charles said. The Rider growled.

"It's my job, the earth is scorned by the damned. I am there to fix what's right." He said. Charles clicked his tongue before walking up to the Rider.

"Well, can we come to some kind of agreement?" Charles asked. The Rider hesitated before nodding for Charles to continue.

"How about this, if you help me fight against Talon and the enemies of Overwatch, I will set you free to do what you desire. You don't have to be tethered to me." Charles said offering his plan. The Rider thought for a moment before sighing.

"It's tempting, but a Rider needs to have a host." The Rider said. The old man appeared before Charles and The Rider.

"If I may interject, we can set you free. You'd just be a walking Spirit of Vengeance, tethered to no human." The old man said. Charles smiled at the Rider as he realized he could be free, but something kept him at bay. He wanted to be free and enact his will of Vengeance against those that did evil deeds, but he had grown accustomed to Charles. Sure they had their fallouts, but Charles was always there to help him or stop him. To be honest, the Rider didn't want to be separated from Charles.

"I will, consider this request. But know that you may use my power without me possessing you." He said as Charles grinned. He rushed the Rider and hugged him close. What was this feeling the Rider felt?

"It's called love Rider." The old man said as he must've felt what the Rider was feeling. He looked as the old man disappeared from their minds. The Rider looked down at his host, if he could smile he would. Charles giggled and nodded at the Rider.

"It's great to cooperate with you, 'Partner'." Charles said holding him close. The Rider rasped with laughter before reaching a fiery hand and stroked Charles's hair. His fire died down to a blue flame as his bone hands laced their way through Charles's blonde hair.

"Thank you." Charles whispered. The Rider looked at him before nodding. Charles walked to the door before opening it. He walked out as the Rider realized he left it open. The wall between the two was finally taken down. The Rider was able to freely explore the rest of Charles's mind without repercussions as his host trusted him.

~Back in the real world~

Charles had a smile on his face as he opened his eyes to see the monk smile at him. "I see the Rider may have finally found peace with you." The monk said as Charles stood. He closed his eyes and concentrated until he achieved full possession of the power of the Rider. He felt his face burst into fire, but he felt no pain as his skin melted to show the skull and fire of the Rider.

Jackson chuckled as Charles turned. "We did it!" He said jumping up and down. "Me and the Rider are one!" He yelled triumphantly.

"That's good to hear." Jackson said. Suddenly, the temple shook as a rocket could be felt hitting the walls.

"What the? Talon!" Charles growled. The monk stood before taking his Rider form. "Come, we must punish these evil doers." The monk said walking outside. Charles tore off his clothes to reveal his leather jacket and tan pants and boots.

As the three Riders appeared outside, three Talon ships encircled the area. Dead monks littered the grounds. Charles shook with anger. He glared at the ship as Reaper and Widowmaker jumped down.

"I thought I had you under the Penance Stare." Charles said before she scoffed. "Monsieur, you didn't think that would keep me? You are a fool." She said with a smirk. Charles glared before pulling the chain of his chest and swinging it around. The monk pulled out a wooden shaft as the Hellfire swirled through.

"We've been waiting for you demon." Reaper said. "Aw, you and Widowmaker were waiting for little old me? I'm flattered." Charles retorted.

"Oh there is one more that you forgot about." Widowmaker said. Charles raised a bone eyebrow. Jackson cleared his throat before looking at the two.

"Damn it Reyes, do you have to blow my cover?" He asked as he stepped forward and ignited into his Rider form.

"Jackson? What are you doing?" The old man said shocked. Jackson laughed before pulling out a Hellfire imbued pistol and fired a round into Charles's chest. He fell, clutching the wound.

'Careful, we can still be injured or even killed by the same power we use.' The Rider warned him. 'Got it. Hellfire good against, but not when used against.' Charles said as he whipped his chain forward, wrapping Jackson's leg and pulling. His teacher moved forward and smacked Jackson's gun out of his hand and kicked him back.

"Y'know, a little back up wouldn't hurt?" Jackson yelled at the two Talon agents. Widowmaker aimed her rifle and began to fire at Charles and the monk. Reaper dropped down and fired his shotguns at the two Riders. The three Talon ships flew backwards and fired at Charles and the monk. He glared at the ships and used his chain to cut down two of them as they crashlanded in the field. Charles focused his attention to Reaper as he poured on his attack.

He noticed one of Reaper's guns on the ground and dived for it. He aimed it a Reaper. "It's empty." Reaper said with a laugh.

"That's what you think." Charles said before the gun changed and caught fire. If Reaper wasn't wearing a mask, his face would have been priceless. Charles pulled the trigger as a blast of fire came out and imbedded itself into his torso. He teleported back to the waiting ship as Widowmaker knew they were outnumbered and grappled back. Charles turned to see Jackson impaled their teacher with a flaming sword.

"Tell the Devil, I said hi." He said before removing the blade. "NO!!!!" Charles yelled before throwing his chain at Jackson and pulling him back. Jackson dodged a fist before retreating.

"Next time Rider. Next time." He said before the ship disappeared. Charles knelt down to his dying teacher and held him close. The fire flickered away as both the teacher and Charles reverted to normal.

"Sensei, I'm sorry." He said holding the dying teacher. "It's not your fault Charles. You only came to control this power and you did." He said before coughing. "You are the most powerful Rider to date young Charles." He said making Charles raise an eyebrow.

"Instead of selling your soul for greed, you did it for love. For that, you are the strongest of us." He said before a coughing fit ensued. The man looked Charles in the eye before shutting them for good as his body erupted into flames and disappeared.

"Goodbye, Sensei." Charles said standing up and bowing one last time. 'Jackson will pay for what he has done.' The Rider spoke. "You better believe, his day of reckoning will be soon." Charles said before leaving the temple.
