Chapter 8
"I'm sorry Angela, but to test out my control, I need to do this myself." Charles said in his phone. "Yes, yes, I understand. I'll be careful. Give my love to the team." He said ending the call. He loved Angela dearly, but boy can she be a protective person. If he wasn't dating her, he'd call her 'Mom' from the way she treats him.
'She cares for you deeply Williams, but I too am curious about what you can do.' The Rider spoke. Charles chuckled lightly as he placed his phone in his bookbag. He closed his eyes and concentrated before igniting into his Rider form. He looked at his bone hands as they caught fire. He breathed in then exhaled as the Hellfire in him swirled.
He lifted a hand and aimed at a rock before firing a ball of fire. "Whoa!" He yelped in surprise. 'Oh whoopie, you can create balls of fire.' The Rider said sarcastically. Charles rolled his eyes, or rolled his eyeholes, and looked around.
"Hmm, maybe with more training, we might be able to use this form in the sunlight." Charles said. 'Perhaps, but for now, we need to stay in the darkness. It's almost sunlight.' The Rider replied. Charles looked to the east to see the sun start to shine. The beam hit his skull as the fire died and flesh started to mend until his skin and hair were left. Charles grabbed his backpack and started to walk towards a small town.
'Now what? We can't really train now.' The Rider asked. "Well, how about relaxing for the day?" Charles asked. 'I care little for 'relaxing', bother me when something comes up.' The Rider said before going quiet. Charles rolled his eyes and walked into the hotel. The woman at the desk looked up from her computer and smiled at him.
"Room for one please." Charles asked pulling out his wallet. "That'll be 75$ sir." The woman replied. He pulled out the required money and she gave him his key. He nodded before grabbing his key and walking to his room. He unlocked the door and walked in as he tossed his bag on the chair and flopped on the bed. He sunk in the soft mattress and stared at the ceiling before a knock was heard on his door. He groaned before getting up and looking through the peephole to see Lena looking through the glass.
"Hello? Charlie! Open up luv." She said poking the glass. Charles opened the door with a deadpan expression. "Hello luv, heard you were in the neighborhood and I thought I should pop in for a tick." She said as he let her in.
"What have I told you about stalking me?" Charles asked raising an eyebrow. "Me? Stalk you? I'd never lu-" She was cut off by Charles holding up a hand.
"King's Row, December of 2059. I brought a date to show her the sights, had to stop when someone was caught blinking." He said as he crossed his arms. She grinned at him sheepishly at him and circled her foot on the rug. He sighed and sat on the bed.
"So, what is you truly came here for aunt Lena?" He asked. "Hmm, 'aunt' haven't heard that in a while." She said sitting next to him. "Well, I guess I almost forgot it." Charles replied with a smile. Lena looked at him before grabbing his head and giving him a noogie.
"Alright, alright, uncle." He squeaked out struggling against Lena's firm grasp. She released him and giggled.
"Don't forget it, man, I miss taking care you. Both of you, you two were little cutie pies!" Lena squealed as she grabbed Charles's cheeks and pinched them.
"Aunt Lena, stop it." Charles said. The Rider hissed with laughter. "Oh shut it bone head." He grumbled. Lena raised an eyebrow at him.
"Oh, I forgot to tell you. I managed to get on some even grounding with the Rider. He has allowed me to use his form and powers without him possessing me." He said with a smile. It took Lena a minute to process this information before her eyes widen at the realization.
"So you can control the Rider?" She asked. "Not control necessarily, but I can change into the Rider without him possessing me." He confirmed her suspicion.
"Charlie luv that's amazing!" She said pulling him into a hug. "Ack! Aunt Lena, I can't breathe!" He choked out. She pulled apart and smiled at him.
"That's amazing Charlie!" She said, as her eyes shone with delight. "So, are you going to come back to base?" She asked. Charles dropped his smile and stared at the ground.
"Sorry aunt Lena, but I need to do this myself. So, I am not going to come back to Overwatch until I deem myself safe and secure to not hurt you or anyone there." He replied making Lena's lip quiver.
"But, I thought you had control?" She said. "That is true, but if I want to keep it like this, then I might have to be secluded. I don't want to hurt anyone, especially Jennie." Charles replied. "So please, stop following me, if not for your sake but for the sake of Jennie." Lena looked into his eyes before sighing.
"Well, I guess you're right. But remember, you always have a home in Overwatch Sweet Pea." She said cupping his cheek.
"Haven't heard that embarrassing name since I was 18." Charles said with a smile. "Well, I best be takin' off. I love you." She said before leaving him. Charles looked out at the city before noticing a familiar house in the distance. He grinned before grabbing his backpack and leaving back to the lobby. He was able to get a refund and walked all around the town until stopping in front of a big two story house.
He opened the gate and walked to the door. He hesitated before knocking 3 times. "Coming!" An elderly voice could be heard. The door opened to reveal an elderly Madam Sarah.
"Can I help you?" She asked with a raised eyebrow. "Good morning, Madam Sarah." He said with a grin. At the sound of this, Sarah's eyes widen before she wrapped her arms around the mans back.
"Aw, my little Charlie! I'm so glad you are well!" She said looking him over. She pinched his cheeks and looked him over. She slapped him and glared.
"Now you decided to show up? I should have followed those agents to give you a good spanking." She grumbled. He laughed sheepishly and walked in.
"Apologies Madam Sarah, I guess I forgot to visit." He said walking into the familiar living room. Sarah walked in and sat next to him on the couch.
"When I heard about what had happened to the limo, I thought the worst happened." Sarah said holding her hands to her chest.
"Well, you'll be happy to know that me and Jennie survived that explosion." He replied frowning. "I sense something you are not telling me." Sarah said looking into his eyes.
"Jennie, she was badly injured. I dragged her away from the battle and hid in a bush. She was bleeding profusely, no one could hear me scream." Charles said as tears began to fall.
"I screamed to the heavens, to the universe, to anyone. I prayed that they save my sister, but little did I know, I prayed for the wrong person." He said walking up to the window and closing the blinds.
"What do you mean?" Sarah asked. "That man, was Lucifer himself. I sold my soul to the Devil for the life of my sisters." Charles replied not daring to look at her. "He saved my sister, but not without giving me the power of a demon." He said as his hand caught fire and the skin melted around to show the bone hands of the Rider.
"I was given the power of the Ghost Rider, a Spirit of Vengeance." Charles finished. He looked at Sarah as she looked him in the eyes before smiling lightly.
"You're not going to berate me on how foolish I was?" Charles asked before Sarah walked up and cupped his cheek.
"No, you did this from the love of your sister. I count that as a good deed in my book." Sarah said. The fire died off as the skin mended itself back to Charles's hand. She grasped it and smiled.
"So, can I stay here for the day? At night, me and the Rider have some business with the scummy side of this town." Charles asked. "You are always welcomed here Charlie. Just no strippers or hookers. Or drugs in this house!" She said before walking up to her bedroom. Charles chuckled lightly before relaxing into the couch. He stared at the clock which read 6:59.
'I sense a lot of evil in this city.' The Rider spoke. "I know, trust me. I know." Charles replied.
~Timeskip~
Nightfall had finally arrived, the Rider was getting a little impatient. "Calm down, I'm going." Charles said.
He walked outside and towards the ghetto where the slums and scumbags of this fair city love to dwell. He looked as gang members surrounded the area, crackheads looking for a fix, women laying themselves out on the streets. Charles was disappointed in how this town became.
"Hey, you." A man said looking at Charles's direction. Charles perked up to see a man with 6 people walk in front of him.
"Empty out your pockets." He said raising a pistol to his head. "I'm going to give you one chance, to lay down your arms and leave this city." Charles growled. The man looked at him before laughing.
"You've got balls kid, I'll give you that. But you see, we take what we want." He said before kicking him in the stomach. Charles fell to the ground and glared at the men.
"Don't say I didn't warn you." Charles growled as his voice became distorted. The Rider cackled with glee. The man stared at Charles as his face heated to a red.
"It's time to pay for your sins." He said as his skin melted and his skull remained. The man backed up in fear.
"What the hell are you?" He asked dropping his gun. "You're reckoning." He said pulling off his chain and flowing his power through the chain. The men started to run before Charles whipped his chain at them as they exploded into ash and fire. The Rider looked into the night sky and roared.
"Who's next?" He asked.
~Timeskip~
Charles awoke on the couch. He grabbed his head as he felt a fire sensation burn through it. "Whoa, what a headache." He groaned.
Sarah stood in front of him with a disapproving look and pointed to the television. He looked as it showed the piles of ash from his victims.
"What some people are speculating, is this the work of the Devil? Multiple piles of ash were discovered in the ghetto area of the city. One onlooker was able to take a video of the perpetrator, be advised it contains graphic content. Viewer discretion is advised." The newswoman said as a video of Charles killing all the criminal scumbags of the ghetto. Then he looked to the sky and cackled.
"Dear lord, does this mean the apocalypse is nigh?" The newswoman said before Sarah turned it off and looked back at him.
"You didn't tell me you had such a demon in you." She said. Charles noticed her hands trembling lightly.
"Forgive me Madam Sarah, I thought I had better control of his power. I guess I still have a lot to learn." Charles said holding his head down.
"Tsk, tsk, it doesn't matter. At least you were honest about what happened. So I cannot stay mad at you. But, while you were out rampaging, a blonde haired woman stopped by." She said moving out of the way for Angela.
"How did you find me?" Charles asked. "Oh liebes, I can always find you. I have my ways." She said wiggling her eyebrows at him. He gulp audibly as his face grew hot. Sarah smiled before leaving the two.
"I heard what Lena told me. You know we have a training facility to help hone your abilities." She said inching closer to him. "I know, but I feel as if the Rider might try to hurt you." He replied. 'I've stopped trying to do that, regardless she saved Gabriel Reyes. For that, she is innocent. He's the one that needs punishment.' The Rider spoke.
"Okay, I guess I'll come back. But on one condition." He said holding a finger up. "What is your demand?" Angela asked rolling her eyes. He moved closer and placed a light kiss on her lips making her squeal.
"I just wanted a kiss. That's my demand." He replied giggling at her red face. The duo heard a cough behind them as Angela yelped before freezing. He turned to see Sarah smiling at the two.
"Well, I will see you again soon my sweet Charlie. Give Jennie my love." She said patting his head. "Yes Madam Sarah." He replied as she left. Angela's face returned to normal as she unfroze and pouted at Charlie.
"What?" He asked the Swiss doctor. "I want to be called 'Madam'." She said crossing her arms. Charles looked at her before wrapping his arms around her.
"Yes Madam Angela." He replied. She looked at him before smirking. "That's more like it." She said before the two departed for the waiting dropship.
~Back at Base~
Charles ended up carrying Angela back to their as she ordered him too. "Yes Madam." He said placing her gently on the bed. He changed into a pair of pajamas and climbed into bed as Angela removed her clothes and placed a large shirt from Charles's closet on.
"You know, I need those clothes. I can't keep reusing dirty clothes for when we go on mission." He pouted as she wrapped her arms around his neck and straddled his waist.
"Oh liebes, I know you enjoy me. So why can't I enjoy myself?" She asked kissing his cheek. "Tell that to the washing machine." He grumbled. She giggled before placing a soft kiss on his lips.
"Now, I know you've been stressful all day, what with the Rider and all. So, allow me to release that stress." She said with a seductive smile. Charles froze before laughing lightly.
"Don't worry. I'll help you." She before throwing the covers over them.
