Chapter 2
Maika yawned and stretched. She is now a full grown wolf, 2 years old. The camp was quiet and dawn was beginning to break through the den entrance. She looked around for Dusty, who apparently was out on patrol. Yawning again, she crawled out of her best and went out into the camp. Orange, wrinkled leaves spiraled down at her paws.
Something doesn't feel right.. She went to her alphas' den and went inside. Bone nor Mist were here.
"What...?" She muttered, confused.
Normally the Alpha doesn't go outside without informing the rest of the pack.
Maika went outside of camp into the autumn forest. There was an ominous silence. Normally birds would be chirping and squirrels would be scampering up tree trunks...
Something's definitely not right..
She began to panic, racing out and dodging trees. She went to the border of her territory.
"Is anyone there?" She called out.
'This has to be a dream.... Just a bad dream..' She shook her head in frustration.
Then she turned around and went back to camp. Still some other betas were asleep.
She named all of them.
Bracken, Damian, Snowy, and Levi.
She prodded Damian's side with her paw.
He lifted his head drowsily, "Wha... Oh it's you, Maika. What do you want?
Maika fought to keep her voice low, "Do you know where the rest of the pack is?"
He shook his dark brown pelt, "Nope.. Did they leave on patrol?"
"That's what I thought, but I couldn't find them."
"Did they abandon us?"
"No idea." Maika confessed, "But I do know that their scent is stale."
"Let's wake the rest of us."
We both woke up Bracken, Snowy and Levi.
"Guys come on, get up!" Maika snapped.
"No.." Levi murmured, "Go away.."
Maika kept her temper low, "The rest of the pack left us."
Snowy was wide awake, "What? Even Frost?"
Frost was Snowy's sister. Maika nodded.
"We need to le-" Maika's words were cut off by a deafening roaring sound. She spun around, expecting a bear. Instead what stood in front of her, was a shiny, yellow metal thing, tearing up the trees surrounding her camp.
Maika barked, "Run!!"
The wolves barely managed to get out. Smoke filled Maika's lungs and she coughed.
"Everyone here?" Someone called.
"Here!"
"Barely."
"I'm good!"
Maika sighed. All of us have answered.
"Let's get out of here," Levi insisted. He was the only senior wolf in the tiny group.
Maika nodded and they left the clearing.
"I'm going to miss this place." Someone remarked
"Yeah. But we'll find a new home soon." Bracken encouraged.
'I hope so..' Maika thought bitterly.
