🌻 Big ideas often have small beginnings 🌻

Make friends. That's what my parents keep telling me. A week ago, I would have never wanted new ones. Heaven was all I needed. Of course, I talked to other people, but I sort of shut the world out when Heaven and I were friends. Ugh, that hurts. When we were friends.

I thought about some people. Mila Wildon? Nah, she's too popular. She can actually be kind of rude. Camila Vogel? No, I don't think she likes me. I accidentally spilled milk on her last year. The only other girl I've really talked to was Kayla Beckett. She talked to me a bit asking for the homework, and I did the same a few days later.

That day, I walked by her at her locker and accidentally-on-purpose dropped my math book and binder right in front of her. She turned around, hearing the drop, and helped me collect them. "Thanks. I'm so clumsy!"

"So am I! You're in my math class... right?" She asked me, making conversation.

"I believe so!  Mr. Campbell?" I knew she was.

"Yup!" We walked to class together and sat at desks next to each other. "We should hang out sometime after school. We have a lot in common!"

She smiled. "We should! Are you free today after school?"

"Yes! You can walk home with me if you want."

"Mkay, cool!" The bell rang, so we were quiet. We exchanged phone numbers when the period ended. It didn't feel right. A few weeks ago, I hadn't been hanging out with hardly anyone but Heaven.

*****************************************************

"Uhhh... so I heard about your friend,"  Kayla said, not-so-interested as she snapchatted in my room. She was driving me crazy. My parents told me that this would be fun. That it would be a way to shift my mood. But so far all this girl had been was boring.

A tear rolled down my cheek. "Um, yeah. It's sorta a sensitive subject right now," I forced out.

"Hm. Anyway, what's your wifi? My reception is terrible right now."

I rolled my eyes. "Actually, I think it's time for you to go home. My mom told me to come eat dinner at this time. I'll see you tomorrow in math?"

"Mkay. Sure." With her face in her phone, she walked out of my room and out the door of my house.

It's not like she wasn't nice and all, but she was nothing like Heaven. Heaven is... was... fun. She was springing with personality. When we hung out, Heaven hardly ever even glanced at her phone. It brought a tear to my eye even thinking about it.

*****************************************************

The next day I saw Heaven, and she saw me. After she stared at me for a while, she stormed up to me.

"I want to know who you are. I know we know each other. I saw you in the car the day I got back from the hospital. Are you my friend? I... I don't have any friends right now so it would be nice if you were."

I said nothing and looked to the ground.

"Please, Please tell me. I'm having a rough time catching up on school and I'm just so confused right now," she said in tears. "I... I don't know why you're ignoring me. Is it something I did? Please tell me so I can fix it. I need someone right now to help with... everything."

I started crying and I ran to the girl's bathroom. Behind me, I could hear her pleading. "Why are you ignoring me?" It broke my heart. I wanted so badly to comfort her. To tell her, Don't worry. I'm here for you, and you're going to get through this. I am your best friend in the whole wide world. Believe me, you're not alone.

But I couldn't. I still had months before I was allowed to even be around her.

    "I... I don't know what you're talking about."

"I have a feeling you do," she said. "you ran crying into the bathroom yesterday when I tried to speak to you. So why... why won't you talk to me? Is it that you don't like me? Are we supposed to be enemies?"

I shook my head with tears in my eyes. "I don't know you." I walked away. Eventually, I turned my head around to see that she had tears in her eyes too.
