The Date
I sat at our normal lunch table listening in on random conversations, but focusing on my problems. Amy and Robbie came over to our table and sat right next to me. Amy introduced Robbie to the table, and everyone began to converse amongst themselves while I was stuck focusing on my own problems and how on earth I'm going to get rid of them. I could feel my brow crease, and decrease as a scenario popped up, but then realize it wouldn't work.
"Everything alright?" Amy asked snapping me out of my trance.
"Yea. I uh, gotta go. Um... See ya later guys." I said as I grabbed my book bag and walked out the door. I walked through the empty halls and began to smell a familiar forest scent that belonged to the boy my feelings wanting to attach themselves to.
"Is everything alright, love?" Robbie asked.
"Yea. I'm fine, I just need to go somewhere." I said looking at the typed address on my phone.
"Can I tag along?" He asked.
"No, It's kinda a personal thing," I said as I began to feel bad. "I'm sorry. If you could, I'd let you, but I really gotta jet." I said walking to my car.
"Please?" He begged.
"Maybe another time," I said with a faint trace of a smile.
"I'll look forward to it." He said.
"Me too," I said as I walked out to find the place where all the threat letters have been mailed from.
I walked into the post office and asked the lady if she had an address of where the letters were coming from, and she said she had no idea. I asked for anything she could do to help, but she couldn't which led me nowhere on finding where my father lurked.
Two months have passed since I went to the post office in search of my father's whereabouts and Robbie and I have gotten really close. He comes over every other day and he and I watch movies together and do our homework together. Threats are still coming through the mail, but they're all the same. My gut still tells me that something big will eventually happen and the threats are just the beginning. When Amy and I are alone, she always tells me Robbie likes me, but I doubt her. Who could fall in love with me? I'm just a vampire with a broken life. Snapping out of my thoughts, I walked up to my locker preparing my books for first period, a note is taped on the front of my locker with a note. I cautiously opened the note for fear my father sent another threat.
Jess,
Meet me by the dark wooden bench at the park at lunch. I really need to talk to you.
~Robbie
A blush transpired from my pale face as I taped the note to the inside of my locker and walked into class, anxiously waiting for lunch.
First period went by like waiting for a long line to end. Walking inside my second period, Amy greeted me, and Robbie sat up in the front with a group of friends leaving me even more anxious to talk to him. Robbie looked up from his friends and winked at me, then back to chattering along with his friends. Just as I was about to get up and speak with him, the teacher called the class to attention and I gazed at the back of his head the entire class waiting impatiently.
Lunch eventually passed by, and I ran as fast as my legs would carry me without being noticed. Looking for the dark wooden bench, I found Robbie sitting on the exact bench with a food basket and flowers. I walked over there and waved my hand, letting him know I saw him. Robbie got up, and I gazed at him. As much as I hated the sun, I had to love the sun for just a while as it displayed his gorgeous featured and lit up his green eyes. He waved back to me and smiled with his light pink lips. Never have I ever been so happy to be basking out in the sun.
"You made it! Thank goodness!" He said as he caught up to me. "Here, I made us lunch." He said.
"Thanks," I said.
"No problem. So how was your day?" He asked.
"It was alright. Yourself?" I asked with a slight chuckle.
"Mine was great." He said looking a little nervous.
"Are you alright, Robbie?" I asked.
"Me? Yea, I'm fine." He said.
"Alright, sure," I said in a very unconvinced tone and raised my right eyebrow and took a bite of the ham and cheese sandwich. "This is really good," I said.
"Thanks." He said. Why isn't he telling me about what he wanted to talk about? The suspension is killing me! For a few minutes, we kept talking about random things until he pulled out the flowers. "Jess, I need to ask you something."
"Ask away," I said licking away the remains of food on my fingers.
"Ever since I came to this school, I developed feelings that grew stronger every day. At first I wasn't sure if it was just a crush, or if I loved you. As I kept trying to figure out my feelings, I realized I love you; this isn't just a normal crush. I admire everything about you and I love spending time with you. So what I'm trying to ask is, will you be my girlfriend?" Robbie asked.
"Yes Robbie, I will be your girlfriend because I love you too," I said as he picked me up and swung me around and leaned in to give me a sparky, passionate, sweet kiss that I wished could last a lifetime. "Wow," I said as I broke away gasping for breath.
"Wow." He said. "I guess we ought to get to class." He said as he frowned looking at his watch.
"It's alright. We can hang out later tonight." I said as I kissed his soft cheek.
"Alright, sounds like a plan. Shall we?" He asked extending his hand to me.
"We shall," I said taking his hand and walking to class.
