The Call
As we walked into the hallways a screaming Amy made her appearance and asked for all the details which Robbie explained as I had to leave for a moment because an unknown caller called my phone.
"Hello?" I asked.
"Hello, Jessica. I know where you're at and I'll be coming for you when you least expect it." The voice said and I hung up because I knew who it was. Dad.
"Amy, we gotta go," I said in a panicked voice.
"What's wrong J?" She asked.
"He called," I said.
"He, he?" She asked.
"Yea. We need to go. NOW." I said.
"What's going on?" Robbie asked as he budded into our panic.
"We have to go," I said.
"Can I come?" He asked.
"Yes," Amy spoke first.
"No. This is way to dangerous!" I interjected.
"He'll be safe," Amy said giving me her look of that's the answer.
"Fine. Let's go." I said as I walked to the car.
"What's going on?" Robbie asked and I told him the whole story of how I was a vampire.
"Please, please don't freak out," I begged. "Everything I felt for you is real, and I couldn't just tell people." I cried looking at the shock on his face.
"I know. I'm not freaked, it's just a lot to take in." He said as we pulled into our driveway and raced in to tell Nikki and Jacob about the phone call.
"He what?" Nikki yelled.
"Yea," I said. "So what do we do? A phone call is a step up from the letters."
"We need to move and get a new identity," Nikki said.
"Jacob?" I asked.
"What?" He asked as he snapped out of his trance.
"What do you think we should do?" I asked once again, frantically chewing my bubblegum.
"It's either fight him now or move and get a new identity and fight him later." He said putting his thumb up to his chin as if to help increase his thinking.
Without consent, I raced up to my room and felt like screaming. Slamming my door and locking it, I belly flopped onto my bed and for once in many years, I shed multiple tears of pain. Not one, not two, but many, many tears. All my pain turned into an unsteady river; constantly flowing and never stopping. My quiet pity party took a pause as a soft knock quietly vibrated my walls.
"Just a moment," I said as I shoved a falling tear off my pink face. Walking up to my mirror, I saw a broken girl whose makeup came off as she revealed her true self. Her mascara came down her face like a black waterfall. Then did I realize that broken girl happened to be me.
Grabbing a makeup wipe, I stroked my face with the cloth hoping to terminate any trace of my broken heart. The broken girl wants to let the boy she loves in, but is afraid of the consequences. What if Robbie gets hurt? What if he finds out my heart is shattered and can't be fixed. What if in the end, Robbie fixes my damaged heart? Is it possible? Can I live in peace and not fear? Another knock at my door broke me out of my thoughts.
"Hey. I'm sorry. I just needed a minute." I said as I wiped another tear that had waited to fall from my red face. Without a word, Robbie hugged me in the doorway and I placed my head in the crook of his neck and let out soft cries.
"It's alright." Robbie kept whispering for a few moments until I looked up at him.
"I love you," I said as I put my head back in the crook of his neck.
"You know I'm here, right?" He asked, holding my shoulders and crouching down to meet my eyes.
"I know," I said, shamefully looking down at the floor and he dipped down to softly peck my lips.
"Shall we go hear the plan Nikki and Jacob have cooked up for us?" He asked as he extended his hand out for me to take.
"We shall," I said as I let out a little laugh and grabbed his warm hand.
