The Plan
Robbie and I carefully walked down the steps and into the living room where Nikki, Jacob, and Amy sat, conversing amongst themselves about what in the world we were to do about my father. My head leaned in on his shoulder, and his warm hands warmed my cold ones. Although my head should have been in a frenzy of thoughts, Robbie comforted me and made me feel better. How does he do this? The short time spent with Robbie upstairs made me feel better than I have all week.
"What's the plan?" I asked as I raised my head, ready to begin a very stressful conversation.
"We're moving to Virginia. We're gonna get new ID's and maybe he'll never find us again." Jacob said.
"I can't just leave Robbie and school," I said as I looked over to see a smirking Robbie.
"Robbie's coming with us too. With your father on the loose, he could find out about Robbie kidnap him or something. We already asked him; right before he ran upstairs." Nikki said.
"Robbie, you can't just stop your life," I said.
"As long as I'm with you, and you're safe, that's all that matters to me," he said.
"Fine. When do we leave." I asked.
"Movers are coming on Friday and we'll buy a house tomorrow," Nikki said. "Go ahead and go help Robbie pack his things and then you can pack your stuff later tonight."
"A-alright." I stuttered.
This is all so fast.... Robbie's putting his life on pause for me and moving to Virginia with us to help protect not just him, but me. I don't deserve Robbie. He's so selfless and so wonderful. Why is my life so crazy? What if Robbie wants to spend the rest of his life with me? Will I have to change him, or will it have to be over between us?
"Jess, you, Amy, and Robbie will drive your car, and Nik and I will drive our car to Virginia with you following behind us," Jacob said.
"Kay," I said as I dragged Robbie out to the car. I opened his side of the car and closed it as he got in. When we were both in the car, I sat and stared at the wheel for a moment before speaking. "Are you sure you want to do this? What if-"
"I want to do this, Jess. I'm positive." He said as he held my face and kissed my lips.
"What if you choose to stay with me forever, and I have to change you, or what if you no longer want to be with me and you leave me?" I asked as another storm flooded my river of tears.
"No matter what, I will always choose you. Someday, I hope to grow old with you." He said.
"That's the thing, Robbie, I don't grow old. I stay young forever." I said.
"Then change me into a vampire so I can be with you." He said.
"I want to be with you, but-"
"But what?" Robbie asked.
"The pain you'll be in is unbearable. The thirst will drive you mad. I don't want that for you." I said.
"Then we'll find a way around it. Just because we officially started dating a few days ago doesn't mean I don't actually love you. I loved you when I first met you at our locker. I wanted to wait to make sure I actually liked you." He said.
"Do you really want me to change you?" I asked.
"Yes."
"Let me think about it, alright?" I said.
"Alright. Let's go pack." He said as he held my cold hands.
"Robbie, are you sure you want to do this?" I asked as I pulled up a black suitcase from the closet downstairs.
"I'm positive. Why are you so hesitant about this?" He asked.
"My father has been trying to kill me ever since an incident with my mother happened," I said looking away and continued packing.
"What do you mean?" He asked raising his eyebrows.
"When I first turned, I locked myself in my room. I tried to avoid everyone but the vampire that turned me decided to kill my mom. I came out and found the vampire drinking from my mom. He saw me and ran. Next thing I know, my dad's home from work and he's trying to kill me." I said taking a shaky breath. "I ran from the house for days until Nikki and Jacob spotted me in an alley drinking a rat. They took me in and one day we found my dad at the supermarket and he tried to kill me. I noticed how he wasn't running at human speed; he ran vampire speed. His eyes were a bloodthirsty red and he had fangs. When I was distracted, he bit me on the neck." I said as I showed him the scar on that lays on my neck. Then my phone began to ring.
"Who is it?" Robbie asked as I took out my phone.
"I have no idea," I said. "Hello?" I asked.
"Hello, Jessica." The familiar voice of my father said.
"What do you want," I said with a worried expression towards Robbie.
"I know where you are. I'm coming for you soon. You'll never know what hit you." He said with a malign laugh over the phone. The line went dead, and I held my shaky hand and stared at the wall trying to process what the heck was going on.
