Chapter Five
A little girl is playing on the swings. She's trying to beat the boy next to her. They're both laughing until the girl sees her mother. "Anastasia, you better be careful." She scolds her child. Ana slows down a bit and then once her mother's gone they are back to flying high.
Ana stares at Mason. She can't hear what he's saying. He looks concerned and is trying to get her attention. "Ana. Ana talk to me." He says urgently.
"I'm...fine." She says still confused by the memory.
"What happened?" He asks staring towards her.
"I...I remembered something. I don't understand." She says still not really there.
"What did you see?" He asks calming down.
"It was me and another boy playing on the swings. I was trying to get higher than him." She laughs just remembering. "Then my...mom came out and said to be careful and the boy and I slowed until she was gone. Then we were back in the sky." She finishes before turning towards him and smiling.
"Do you not remember your childhood?" He questions confused as to why she is so shocked.
"No, well kind of. It's a big blur to me. I remember being shoved into a closet and told to stay there, but when I came out everyone was dead. I started walking through the forest and someone found me and gave me to the home. I got check-ups from him. He was my pack doctor. He said he hit his head in the battle and can't remember anything that happened." She pauses trying to remember anything else. "That's the only thing really. Everything else has always been gone. He thinks that when I had my panic attack in the closet that it made me lose my memory, but I don't have a clue." She finishes staring back up at him.
"Hum." Is all he says trying to gather everything. He can't seem to understand why a panic attack would erase her memories.
"Yeah, so seeing that was...strange." She says and then sees there isn't anyone left in the parking lot. "We should get home. I don't have work tomorrow, but I will have a ton of school work." She says and Mason nods his head.
"Ok, just tell me if anything comes up." He says standing up and walking to the other side of the car. He takes his seat and him and his wolf start to come up with theories.

She slowly opens her eyes. She looks at the clock and sees 5:04. She groans. "Too earily."
"You always get up around this time." Mason says sitting on his chair.
"Not if I don't have to go to work-work." She replies turning over. She looks over at Mason and sees him drinking coffee. "Is there any more coffee?"
"No, but I can make more." He says standing up. Ana shakes her head.
"Nah, I'm good, but thanks-thanks." She says just wanting a little drink not a whole cup.
"You sure?" He questions back.
"Yeah, I'm good. I do need to start some homework though-though." She says sitting up and grabbing her laptop.
"Have fun. I'll be working on some songs." He says leaving the room. Ana nods even though he can't see. She starts her work, but notices that her stomach is growling and she has a sore throat.

Mason continues to play until he hears Ana coughing. This makes him and his wolf uneasy. He goes back to his room and carefully tries to find where she is. Once she's done he asks, "Are you alright?"
"I think I'm getting sick-sick." She says and Mason is concerned.
"If you're getting sick that has to be bad." He says with worry.
"Remember I get sick easily. Hopefully, it'll be gone in a week." She says taking her inhaler.
"It takes a week for you to fight off a human common cold?" He questions not quite understanding. Werewolves don't get sick really and if they do it's normally something deadly.
"Yeah, normally. Unless it's a bad one. Then it can take way longer-longer." She says and then starts sneezing.
"Bless you like four times." He says making her smile a little.
"I'm gonna get some water." She says, but before she can stand up from the bed Masons already up and ready to leave.
"I'll get it." He rushes before walking to the kitchen. He finds a glass and listens carefully to how full he gets it before walking back to the room.
"Thank you." She replies taking a drink. "You can go do whatever. I don't see someone with me-me." She says even though she loves that he's there.
"I'm just gonna stay." He says and then worry comes over him again. "If that's alright." He rushes hoping not to overstep. She's our mate. She's not gonna tell us to leave, we can help her. His wolf says and Mason argues back I just don't want to overstep our boundaries.
"It's fine. And what's our wolf talking about?" She questions. "Your eyes have a goldish ring around them when you two talk." She says before he can ask how.
"He's being a pain. Um, how about we go for a run after your homework. If you're up to it." He suggests.
"Sure. She wants to run with you and I love going out." Ana smiles as her wolf gets all excited. Then she turns back to her work.

"No way. He wouldn't have done that-that." Ana says laughing with Mason.
"That's what big brothers do." Mason says loving that he's making her laugh.
"My brother would never do that." Ana replied shaking her head.
"You have a brother?"
"Yeah. He..um..doesn't like the whole werewolf thing though. He wants to be normal-normal." She says missing him.
"Where is he?"
"Fighting for everyone and all of us-us." She says and Masons shocked.
"Army?" He questions.
"Air Force."
"When does he come home?"
"He's been out for 13 months, so soon." She says hopefully.
"When did he decide to do that?" He questions
"Right after high school." She says playing with her fingers.
"He felt you in a home and went?" Mason asks confused and angry.
"He didn't do so great in school, so he thought that'd be the only way to bring money home. He did it to help me with school-school."
"He should have stayed with you." He says still a little bitter.
"It was better though, being in an all girls home. Everything worked out and now he's proud of himself and feels like he's doing something with his life." She says and looks back up at him. She sees his eyes change and knows his wolf is saying something. Then he looks really mad.
"What do you mean 'Better in an all-girls home'?" Ana's eyes open wide. She said too much and now he's gonna blow a gasket.
"Well...um..."
"Ana." He says raising his voice.
"When my brother first left. They...they still had me in the mixed gender home and...he..he wasn't there to scare others away," She can't seem to say anymore, not like she has to because Mason is off the couch and pacing in the room. "It's fine. It's in the past." Ana says standing up as well. She wasn't strong enough before, but now if something like that were to ever happen, her wolf would come out and the person wouldn't even lay a hand on her.
"Ana, that's not ok. Did you ever tell him? Or anyone for the matter." He asks still pacing.
"N-no. I just asked to be moved-moved." She says and he takes a sharp turn towards her.
"What exactly did they do?" He says realizing that more could have happened, then just touching.
"Mason. Just drop it ok. It's fine-fine." She says not wanting to think anymore about it.
"Just answer this one question." He says turning near her. She looks up at him and nods.
"O-ok-ok." She stumbles out.
"Are you a virgin?" He asks and gets upset when she doesn't answer. "Ana." He growls out.
"N-n-no." She says and feels a few tears roll down her face. She sees Mason wolf take over and he starts throwing things. He yells. Ana falls onto the couch and pushes her hands to her ears. Yelling startles her, she'd heard it too many times and too many times was it at her.
Mason's wolf hears Ana's cries and lets Mason take over. He walks to her cries feeling guilty. All anger is submerged. "Ana." He whispers and places a hand on her arm. "I'm sorry. Really sorry. I-we shouldn't have acted that way." He says and hears her sniffing. He moves up to the couch as her sniffles low down. "I didn't mean to upset you. I'm not mad at you. I just..hearing that someone would...I just-"
"I know and that's why I didn't tell my brother. He'd be in jail right now if I did-did." She saying wiping her eyes once again.
"He has a right to know though," Mason says. His wolf still wants to rip there heads off and isn't making it easy for Mason to keep his cool.
"You're still angry-angry." She says seeing the look in his eyes.
"Of course I'm gonna still be angry. What they did is..I don't have a word, but they should be six feet under." He says making sure not to raise his voice too much. Then he hears Ana start coughing. This makes his wolf instantly change from angry to concerned.
Ana holds her hand to her chest feeling like she can't take in enough air. She looks for her inhaler and remembers it's in Mason's room in her bag. "Can....inhaler." She gets out trying to slow her heart rate down.
Mason is immediately up and running to his room. He starts feeling around his bed feeling for her bag. He gets more frustrated as he can't find it. Then he feels the backpack. He runs back out of his room and into the living room. He sets the bag close to Ana, well as close as he thought she was. Ana grabs the inhaler and takes a breath in.
It takes her a while before she's breathing normally again. "And this is normal for you?" Mason questions. Ana puts her inhaler down and turns towards him on the couch.
"Yea-yea." She replies.
"Do you ever take like cough medication or anything?"
"It doesn't work so I just wait it out-out." She says and her wolf starts talking to her again. He cares so much, it's so sweet. I know. She replies smiling. "Hey,..um, we should go for a walk. Fresh air." She says feeling her cheeks heat up.
Mason freezes. She just asked him to walk with her. "Yeah." He replies with a smile. She's warming up to us. His wolf says.
Once Ana gets a sweatshirt on and shoes they walk out of the house and start walking along the empty road. Ana stares up at the sky loving how the sunset makes it colorful. She then realizes that Mason never gets to see the beauty. She frowns at that. He'll never get to see all the wonders of the word.
Mason notices that Ana's not as carefree and seems more rigid. "What yea thinkin about?"
Ana doesn't want to make him upset or sad so she shrugs her shoulders. Mason feels the action because they are walking close to each other. "Just tell me. I'll be fine, if that's what you're worried about."
"I was just...you'll never get to see all the beautiful things in this world. There are just so many things I wish I could show you and explain to you, but..." She doesn't know how to word it.
"David does. You can try. I still remember what most of the colors look like. I just have to reference it with something I can remember." He says waiting for her to speak.
"Um..well the sunset tonight is gorgeous. The sun is a bright yellow making the sky around it have this orangeish color. Then the more away from the sky, the most colors show. The blue and purple and then the nice light pink." She says and she didn't count her words. She seems to do it less with Mason around.
"Like a rainbow in the sky." He says smiling.
"Yeah." She says. Mason notices how she didn't say it twice again. As they walk Ana feels she's getting really cold. Her hands feel like icicles. Her wolf then starts talking again. I bet his hands are warm. Ana rolls her eyes. Her wolf is always wanting her to makes contact with him. She loves the feeling. Ana rubs her hands together and Mason here's it.
"You wanna turn back around?" He asks.
"Yeah, sure." She replies. They walk to the other side of the road and Ana's wolf keeps bugging her. Ana, annoyed and cold grabs Mason's hand. He jumps at the coldness of her fingers.
"You're hand is freezing. We could have turned back around sooner." He says rubbing the top of her hand.
"I just love being outside and now that the stars are out it's even better." Mason had counted her words. 15, yet she didn't say another word. We distract her. His wolf says happily.
They walk back in silence until Mason speaks up. "I thought you didn't do hand-holding?" He questions smiling.
"Well 'she' was pestering me and it's not so bad." She says feeling her body warm up again. Mason grins and Ana starts swinging their hands.
