Prologue

"Is it really that hard to pick up your clothes?" He yells at his older brother, David.

"It kinda is." He replies. Mason bitterly mumbles at his brother.

"You know one of these times I'm going to trip and smash my head into something." He had told his brother as he walked into their living room.

"Nah, your wolf senses will kick in before that, they always do." He heard his annoying reply. Mason just shook his head at his brother. "Hey, you know that Josephine I was dating?"

"Yeah, what about her?" Mason said confused, sitting down on their couch.

"I'm gonna end it." He says. Mason knew where this was going. His brother dates a girl for like a month and then claims that he's been getting a weird feeling. Like his mate is going to show up, never happens, but it's his excuse to not get too serious with anyone.

"Let me guess, you're gut is telling you to. We'll never meet our mates. We're not in a pack, I don't know why you still think-." Mason begins in a bored tone. They have this conversation too many times before.

"You don't know that. It could happen and I think it's going to, but I need your help. I still have some stuff at her dorm and don't feel like getting mauled by her and or her friends." He claims in a pleading voice.

"Fine, but if she slaps you, you deserve it. Oh and Tuesday I have to play for this rich family about an hour from here. I need you to drive me there."

"I would literally waste a wish so you could drive while being blind. It'd make my life so much easier." His older brother jokes with him.

"Right, because your life is so rough." Mason mocked. David started to ramble on about his job and Mason tuned him out. He was thinking about learning a new music piece. He just needed to get his brother to find a good video for him to listen to.

"Are you even listening?" David's loud voice brought him back down to earth.

"Yup, you were complaining about a new guy working with you and how much of a pain he is," Mason said with a smirk.

"Wish I could think about one thing, but listen at the same time. School would have been so much more fun." David said and Mason could tell he was smiling.

"It's honestly not that hard. Just keep tabs about what the person is saying and you should be able to put two and two together." He replied with a shrug.

"Yea, I'll just pay attention or completely ignore them." He turns the TV on. Mason didn't care to listen to the shows or movies. He could spend his time practicing more music. He stood up and made his way to the other bedroom in the house. He knew how to play the piano when he was younger and still loves to play. It's his life.

As he sits down on the cold wooden bench, a smile forms on his lips as he starts to play one of his favorites. Canon in D.

"Hey it's almost midnight, just thought I'd let you know," David says with sleep laced throughout his voice.

"Thanks." He replies completely focused on finishing what he started. He finishes a few more notes tweaking here and there before putting the keyboard cover on.

He hears his brother's footsteps through the hallway, he'd waited until he put the cover on. He knows if he doesn't wait, Mason will forget and be up until dawn. Then, after a few minutes, Mason hears his brother's breathing slow down. He stands up from the bench and walks to his room. He lay awake in his bed for some reason. Couldn't seem to get sleep, mind seemed to be elsewhere.

After about an hour of him just laying there, he gets up and walks outside. He takes a big deep breath of cold air and lets it out. He changes into his dark brown wolf and just goes for a peaceful run.

He let the breeze rush through his hair, slamming his paws into the earth beneath him until he couldn't. He slows down into a slow walk and just takes in all the noises around him.

The different birds, to the insects buzzing away, and the rushing of the trees. Everything around him was so peaceful and calming. He remembered seeing a beautiful garden when he was in a pack. All the different colors, that's what the images now. Beautiful nature all around him.

He then casually starts to make his way back to the house still taking in everything around him.

"Hey, do you want me to cook something or just orders something in?" David asks while walking to his brother.

"Oder something in." He rushes out as quickly as his mind registers what his brother asked.

"Hey, I'm not that bad." David tries to defend himself.

"The last time you tried to cook, I almost broke my teeth and the house smelled like smoke for a week. I'll pass on that again." Mason says getting a bitter taste in his mouth, just remembering it.

"Ok, so, I could just-"

"Just order in, for the health of everyone in a mile radius." Mason interruptes.

"Fine," David grumbles giving up. Then he mumbles, "There isn't anyone in a mile radius." That makes Mason smile.

David called the pizza place and order a regular pepperoni pizza. "There. Pizza is on its way. What are you working on?" He wonders walking closer to his brother and the piano.

"Trying to write a new piece, but just can't seem to make it flow," Mason grumbles after playing a few more notes. He just can't seem to make it sound how he wants, there's something missing to it and he just can't figure it out.

"Maybe you need some words to make it move along."

"You know I don't do anything, but the piano in my work," Mason states turning his attention to where he hears his brother's voice.

"Never know, it could be amazing." David shrugs, even though Mason can't see him do it, he still hears it. He can interpricate a lot of noises to figure out what's happening around him.

"I'll pass, but thanks for trying." A few moments passed and then Mason remembers. "Hey, can you help me find a new music piece? I already looked up the name, but I need you to click on the recordings for me. Their setup is confusing and I can't seem to just click around and find a good recording."

"Sure, is your laptop in the other room?" David questions used to helping him out with it.

"Yeah."

"Ok, I'll go down the list and tell me when you find the one you like. Their spacing is different that's why you couldn't get all the music to play." David explains and Mason nods his head. David clicked on the first one and waited for his brother's response to it.
