Chapter One
"Yeah, wow can't believe he'd do that to you. I'm glad my boyfriend isn't like that." Josephine says into her phone. She lives have her life on it.
Ana was packing her bag. She was sneaking out of the dorm in a few hours. She wanted to go to a park, but because everyone at the home wasn't allowed outside after ten she had to quietly make her way out.
She went on her computer and just stared at her online assignment. She loved online schooling, but she also thought it was a pain. She clicked on her assignment and started to read through it.
"Hey, do you mind helping me with this math problem?" Ana's roommate asked. Ana gets up and walks over to Josephine's bed. "It doesn't make sense. How does this formula work?" She asks getting more agitated.
"Everything adds up to the formula. Let me show you." Ana takes the pencil. She starts to write down the steps and how the numbers fit into the formula. "See, easy." She claims and writes all the steps again. She felt she had to. Her roommate knew of Ana's slight OCD and let her write the problem as many times as she needed. When Ana felt it was right she handed the pencil back.
"Thanks, are you ok?" Josephine asks knowing that Ana might have a panic attack if something went wrong or if she continued to over think.
"Yeah, just fine-fine." Ana smiles back at her, before walking back to her desk. She was glad Josephine was nice about her incidences, but it annoyed her that she couldn't control it. She was good most of the time, she knew that there was some issues, but they didn't affect her to the point where she wanted to try and find a doctor to help her.
She sits there and reads the science pages over and over again, but couldn't focus on the pages. She closes her book and lookes at the time. 9:38pm.
She grabs her bag, she had to set it back down and pick it up again. She did this four times and then she thought it was ok to check and make sure everything was in it. She checked it four times and then put it on her back. She took it off and then put it back on. "Leaving?" Josephine questions staring as Ana opens and closes the door four times. She always waited to ask until Ana's route was almost done.
"Yeah, I'll see you," Ana replies and then walks out the door. Ana counts how many steps she takes. She had to end on an even number.
Josephine has always covered for Ana if need be. She doesn't know where Ana goes and doesn't ask. Josephine things it's for Ana's OCD, so she just stays out of it, much to Ana's liking.
Ana looks through the halls and sees no one. Good. She rapidly starts to walk down some stairs when she hears Mrs.Kramer's voice. Shit, is her first thought. She starts to sprint down the stairs and keeps looking back, still making sure it's an even amount.
She then hears a shout from Mrs.Kramer. "Ana, get back here now." This only makes Ana run faster. As she's looking back, she runs into someone. After running into him she pushes him back again. She couldn't do the action only once. "Sorry, sorry." She rushes out and starts down the stairs again.
She still has a tingling feeling in her arms and she doesn't understand why. Before anything else happens she runs into another person. She pushes him, just like the other person and looks up at him. He's tall, like too tall. While backing up, she runs into the first person.
"Are you alright?" Mason asks, concern written all over his face. He didn't care that she had run into him twice now. Ana stares up at him startled.
"Um, yeah-yeah. Sorry about running into both of you. I have to go." She rushes, but before she can leave Mason talks again.
"Where are you going?" Mason asks her. She looks up at him confused. He keeps his hand on a wall while taking a step in her direction, but she doesn't think much about it. She's just trying to get out before she's caught.
"Just out. Who are you two? Haven't seen you guys around here and this is the girl's section." Ana asks putting more distance from the really tall one. Her wolf is trying to talk to her, but she keeps pushing her away. Her wolf helps with the OCD, and helps keep her thoughts at bay, but right now she's acting like she's on a drug.
"Oh, I'm here to talk to my, um,... a friend," David replies to her.
"What's her name?" She asks back, not as nervous of being caught. Mason feels left out for some reason and responds before David can.
"Josephine."
"Oh, wait which one of you is David?" She asks looking back and forth between the two. She's assuming the taller one, just because he seems more of her type.
"I am. Why?" David asks in a questioning tone. While Ana responds a wave of jealousy goes through Mason. She knows his brother's name, but not his.
"So, you're the person she's dating. She was just talking about you, around a few hours ago. You should go and see her before it's lights out." David nods his head at Ana before climbing the stairs three at a time.
"If it's lights out, where were you going?" Mason asks leaning on the wall. Before she can respond she hears Kramer yell her name again.
"Um, I gotta go." She rushes and then starts down the stairs. She notices that the boy follows. She doesn't care, though. If he tries anything her wolf strength can beat him. Takes one thing she can always count on.
Once she makes it out of the home she starts to slow her pace down. Kramer never follows if she makes it out of the home. "Why are you running from that woman?" Mason asks carefully keeping up with her.
"She doesn't let us out after ten and I want to so, I have to sneak out and if she catches me I can't." She responds and slows to a walk. She makes sure not to step on a crack, that would cause bad luck to those she loved.
He hears that her footsteps have slowed down and he so does his. His wolf is going crazing right about now. He can't tell if she's a human or not, but he thinks human if she's not in a pack. His senses seem out of whack which is why he can't tell.
"Why are you following me-me?" Ana questions and stops walking. Mason stops and turns towards her voice, hoping he's looking at her.
"Can I tell you that when you get to the place you wanted to escape to?" He asks, not sure how to explain the situation.
"Ok, but I'm warning you now, if you try something it's going to end badly. I'm stronger than I look." She threatens him.
"I won't." He says a slight smile. They walk in silence and Ana lets her wolf talk to her. He's our mate. Gosh you should listen more often. Damn, he is good looking. So the tingles were because of that. Wait, what? I'm walking with my mate. The mate I never thought I'd meet. Many thoughts start to run through Ana's head.
Ana looks over at him. He keeps his head high and he walks differently. She doesn't know how to describe it, but she likes it. She turns her head back looking forward.
Talk to him. Please. I want to hear his voice again. Her wolf begs.
"So, why did you come with your brother to talk to Josephine?" Ana asks looking over at him.
"Um. Well...he's kinda breaking up with her." He says and Ana stops walking. Mason stops and turns toward her.
"What? Why?" Ana asks folding her arms over her chest, which wasn't good because she had to do it four times.
"Um...he says he just feels like it's not working." He says uncomfortably. He noticed a sound, but couldn't figure out what Ana was doing. Ana shakes her head twice and starts walking.
"Well, that will be fun to go back to. He'd better tell her nicely." She says in a stern voice.
"I hope so," Mason replies.
Once they get to the park Ana walks to the swings. Mason attentively follows behind her and finds the chains before sitting down.
"So why did you follow me out here?" Ana asks the question again.
"Just wanted to get to know you. Is that a crime?" He says still not sure how to tell her about them being mates.
"Well, it could be. Do you mind if I ask you a question-question?" She says and he turns his head towards her.
"Ask away." He answers confused on why she says some words twice. Maybe it's a tick or something.
"Do you believe in mythical creatures, like werewolves or something?" She casually brings up. He's shocked at her question.
"I believe werewolves and warlocks and other creatures are out there yes. Why do you ask?" He questions, not sure if she's human, but starting to think maybe she's not.
"Just wanted to know. Tell me what do you smell right now?" She asks. Once again he's confused by her question. He doesn't say anything but takes a breath in.
"We'll I smell your perfume, the flowers around the corner, the moist wood chips, and newly cut grass." He says making Ana stand up swiftly.
"You are a werewolf." She says in a hushed tone.
"What do you mean?" He asks not understand how she got that from two meaningless questions.
"The grass was cut two days ago, no human can still smell it and I'm not wearing perfume, it must be how I smell." She responds before sitting back down on the swing. She gets up again and then sits again. Mason doesn't seem to notice it and it confuses Ana. Most people stare at her if she does things more than once.
"Smart move. I'm assuming you are too?" He questions even though he's 99.9% sure.
"Yes. Why would your brother date someone if it's not his mate?" She questions.
"He didn't think he'd find his mate. Neither did I." He says the last part gingerly.
"Yeah, welcome to the club. Why are you two away from your pack-pack?"
"We aren't in a pack anymore. We like living how we are." He says and pushes off the ground to swing more. He's trying to figure her out, maybe she has a speaking problem. "What about you?" He says trying to learn more about her.
"My whole pack was killed, and I just never joined into another pack-pack." She says and looks up at the night sky. It's a little cold and she pulls her sleeves down more but makes sure to do it four times.
Minutes pass between them, they just listen to their surroundings. Then Mason breaks the silence. "How much longer are you at the home?"
"I'll be moving out in about two months, or well kicked out. Why do you ask?" She asks swinging higher.
"You could come to my house. It's a nice place." He says hoping she says yes. His wolf is going crazy and Mason thinks this should help calm him.
"Sure, why not. Get out of the place and Mrs.Kramer." Ana replies not a care in the world. She's bounced between houses and going to someone else's doesn't scare her, especially when it's her mates. He'd never do anything to hurt her. Not long after a car pulls up on the right side of the park. David walks out and jogs over to them.
He has a nice mark on his face. It brings a smile to Ana's face. "She got you good didn't she?" She says as a statement.
"Yeah, good arm." He says and Mason realizes that his brother must have a mark on his face. "Hey, can we leave Mason? It's kinda late and I have to work tomorrow." David says looking over at his brother.
"Sure, um Ana you can get in the car. I have to talk to my brother." Mason says standing up from the swing.
She nods and walks over to the car and climbs in. She watches as the two talk. Mason, I really like that name. Her wolf says to her.
Ana watches as the two boys walk back to the car. David gets into the front seat and Mason sits in the back by Ana. She lays her head on the window and gazes at the sky.

"You lucky little bastard," David says to his younger brother.
"Shh." He says as he walks into the house with Ana in his arms. She fell asleep within the first five minutes of the car ride.
He walks through the hallways with no troubles. "Your clothes had better be picked up," Mason whisper-yells at his brother. He walks into his room with ease and sets Ana on his bed. David hands Mason her backpack. He sets it next to his bed and they leave the room.
"Seriously. The one that says he's never going to meet his mate runs into her because of me. That's just not fair." David complains to his brother.
"I don't know what to tell you." Mason shrugs.
"How does it make you feel?" He questions staring at his brother.
"Alive, happy, sad, nervous, and everything else. It makes you feel like nothing else matters, but her." He says in a haze.
"You're so lucky. She's a pretty girl. She's kinda short." He says and Mason stares ahead at nothing.
"What does she look like?" He questions, wishing he could see her.
"She's got really bright blonde hair. I thought it was dyed, but then we could have smelt it. She's got blueish grayish eyes. She wears little makeup. She's definitely a good one." He says not really sure how to go in depth.
"She did something strange when she ran into me. She tapped me again before doing anything else and she says some words twice. I don't understand why." He says thinking about why she might have done it.
"Maybe she felt something and needed to make sure it was real. And for the speaking maybe it's just that she was nervous." David says with a shrug.
"No, it was something else. I just don't know what." He says wondering about his mate.
"Well, I'm going to bed, have fun with her," David says and Mason rolls his eyes at his immature brother.
Mason gets up and walks back to his room. He walks over to his bed and hears Ana's breathing. She kinda wheezes as she breaths. He doesn't understand if she's a heavy breather or if somethings wrong.
He changes into more comfortable clothes and then lays next to her, making his wolf happy.
She moves around a lot in her sleep, Mason observes. He hears her steady heartbeat and lets himself fall asleep trying to calm his active brain down.

Mason wakes up early in the morning. Around fiveish. He gets up and walks to the kitchen. He grabs a cup and fills it with some milk. He hears his brother walking down the hallway.
"Morning?" David says still half asleep.
"Good morning," Mason replies with a smile.
"Don't understand how you can wake up so early and be happy about it," David grumbles making himself coffee. Mason chuckles and takes a drink of his milk.
"When will you be back?" Mason questions.
"Probably eight tonight. Long shift today." David grumbles.
"Ok, remember on Saturday I have to play for a wedding." Mason reminds his brother, before putting his cup in the sink.
"Oh yeah. Thanks for reminding me. How long is the drive to that one?" He questions.
"Two hours there."
"Damn, why can't you find closer places," David grumbles again.
"They pick me, not the other way around and they are paying for the gas, so be happy."
"Whatever. I'm going to take a shower." David says before walking off. Mason makes his way back to his room. When he opens the door he hears a gasp.
