Chapter 2
As soon as I see the parking lot, I run straight out the lot, running to the road and heading back home. By now my lungs are screaming at me to stop, but I ignore the pain and continue. Whatever was in the forest was watching me.
Running all the way home, I enter my house and lock all the doors. Panting, I slide down the door's surface, terrified that whatever was in the forest has followed me. What even was that? A monster? I knew this place had magical creatures!
"Jace?" I call out.
No answer. He must be at work then. I sigh, getting up and going to my room. When I get there, I lock my bedroom door and turn on my music, drowning out my fears in Twenty One Pilots.
After hours upon hours of music, the door finally opens downstairs.
"Sera?" Jace calls.
"In here!" I yell.
He comes in softly, sitting down next to me on my bed.
"What happened, Sera?" He asks softly.
"I-I met someone. They were nice, but they did something that triggered my memories of... you know, him. I ran into the forest, but I scraped my knees and hands. Then I found something watching me with bright blue eyes. I left, screaming and running. Then I came back here."
He nods, thinking. Then he almost... laughs?! Tears well up in my eyes.
"What's so funny?" I ask.
"Oh, Sera, I can't tell you right now, but it has nothing to do with you, I swear."
I nod, curling up on my bed. I'm exhausted. The sun has set already, and I skipped dinner.
"Go to bed, Sera. You have to go to school tomorrow," Jace says, getting up.
"No! I can't go to school. Everyone was staring at me and then the person I met might... I don't know how they'll react."
"Don't worry, Sera, I'm positive that your new friend won't be mad or anything."
I nod, closing my eyes. He leaves me, and I drift off. Then the nightmare starts.
I'm waiting for Ryan after school. It's been an awesome first month of high school, and my best friend, Ryan, has been really hitting it off. Right now he said he had to go somewhere. He told me to wait for him in the alleyway behind the school. I hear footsteps coming towards me.
"Ry? You there?" I call out.
"Oh, yeah. Stay there, Sera," he calls out smoothly.
He's always had such a smooth and lulling voice. He sings like an angel, and compared to him, my fairly good voice sounds like a dying donkey. He comes over to me, smiling widely.
"Hey, Ry. Can we go now?" I ask, starting to turn around.
He grabs my hand suddenly.
"No, let's stay here. I have to show you something," he whispers.
I turn to meet his gaze. He's pretty tall for a 15 year old. His brown hair hangs in his dark, grey eyes. I always found his eyes so mesmerizing.
"Okay?"
He slowly steps forward, still smiling like the chesire cat. His eyes suddenly go completely red. Panic seizes my heart.
"Ry, w-what happened to your eyes?" I whisper, panicking.
He chuckles darkly, hanging his head down.
"Oh, Sera, you're so naive," he coos.
I start to back away, until I hit a wall. He walks right in my face, and crashes his lips on mine. I gasp, pushing him away, or, attempting to. He pulls away, only to go to my neck. He kisses it and I scream.
"Ryan, what the heck are you doing?!" I cry out, sobbing now.
Something sharp prods at my neck. It suddenly plunges into my neck. I scream out, completely shocked. Pain shoots through my body, causing me to freeze.
"What are you doing?!" I shout out, tears rolling down my face.
He lifts his head, and the pain goes away. I fall down the wall, suddenly drained of all my energy. Ryan look down at me, smiling.
"Don't worry, Sera, you'll be fine. I'll see you soon, my dear, alright?" He says, before walking off.
I jolt up, screaming in bed. Tears roll down my cheeks as I breath heavily. That night always comes back to me in my dreams. I'm haunted by it, tortured by it. It's why I can never handle someone close to me. Why I can't handle boys giving me any attention.
Jace comes running in, his eyes wide with worry.
"Sera?! You okay?"
"I had the nightmare again," I sob.
He shushes me softly, walking over to me. He sits by me on the bed. I tackle him, hugging him tightly and sobbing. He pats my hair, trying to soothe me.
"Jace, when will it go away?"
"I don't know, Sera. I don't know."
I continue to sob, until my brain starts to shut down.
"Can I stay home tomorrow?" I ask.
"Sure, Sera."
I smile, before falling asleep. Jace gets ups and leaves me, going to his room.
Quinn
After school, I drive back home. I head up to my room, and start on my homework. By the time I finish, the sun has set and stars twinkle in the sky. I sigh, thinking of Sera. I really hope she's okay.
My phone starts to buzz an hour later. I check it to see Jace, our Beta. Since the old one, his father, died, Jace has been training to become the Beta and he just started.
"Hello? Jace? What's up?"
"Dude, I know what happened today."
"What?"
"Serafina. She's your mate, right?"
"Yes. How'd you know?"
Sera couldn't have told him, right? She doesn't even know what a mate is.
"She told me what happened at school. Really? Smelling her? And I know it was you who she saw in the forest."
"Yeah. I lost control. H-how is she?"
"She's terrified. She won't be in for a few days."
"Terrified? Why?"
"Her old best friend turned out to be a vamp. He fed off her one night. She's traumatized by it. She can barely even handle having me touch her, let alone another person. Just think how you look to her. She doesn't know you, nor does she know you're a werewolf and she's your mate. She thinks you're just like her old friend. It's scaring her."
Hunter growls when he hears of the vampire. How dare a filthy vampire violate my Angel? He whimpers when he hears how broken she is now. How will I get her to fall for me if she's scared I'll force myself upon her like that bat?
"Oh. What do I do, then?"
"Stay away. Let her come to you. Stay strictly friendly. No touching. Just, don't get too close."
I nod, but then say yes when I realize he can't see me nod.
"Okay. I gotta' go. See ya', bro," I say before hanging up.
I sigh, lying down on my bed. How am I supposed to stay away?
Sera
I lay in bed for a week, barely eating and sleeping. Because whenever I closed my eyes, Ryan was there, smiling at me like the Cheshire cat. Jace leaves for work, and I stay in bed, not moving, just staring up at the wall. He's worried about me, but I couldn't care less. My resolve to stay alive has left me. Ryan's face haunts me, and now Quinn has joined him.
"Sera?" Jace calls from the front door downstairs.
"Sera?" He asks again, coming into my room.
He's holding a tray of food. He frowns when he sees my food from this morning is still by my side.
"Sera! I told you to eat!" He exclaims.
I just nod at him.
"Sera, you're going to have to go back to school, you know."
I nod again. The doorbell suddenly rings. Jace jumps a bit, and goes downstairs.
Quinn
I can't handle it anymore. I'm going to her house. I drive there, the whole time thinking about what I should tell her. When I get there, I ring the doorbell. Jace comes out a moment later. He frowns.
"What is it? Is it... them?" He asks warily.
I shake my head.
"No. I wanted to see Sera."
He shakes his head.
"I wouldn't do that. She's really fragile right now."
Hunter growls in my head. He can't keep us from our mate. Command him to let us in so we can comfort our mate, he suggests.
"Jace, let me in. I command it," I command, putting as much force in my voice as possible.
Jace bows his head in submission, letting me in. I run up the stairs, smelling her sweet scent. Ever since she's come here, I've developed a sweet tooth, and her sweet scent is my favorite.
When I find a closed door with Twenty One Pilots posters all over it, I know it's her room. I open the door to have my heart shatter. Sera stares off into space above her head. Her skin is pale and white almost, the bags under eyes made more prominent. Dried tears stain her hollow, yet still beautiful face. Hunter whimpers, wanting to take care of her.
"Sera?" I call out softly.
Sera
"Sera?" Quinn calls out to me from the doorway.
I shiver, remembering him by my neck. He comes close to me, and I begin to panic.
"S-stay away," I croak.
"What?" He asks softly, his voice filled with pain.
"Stay away from me. I don't want you here."
"Why?"
I stay silent. Because I don't want you to hurt me again, I say in my head.
"Please. I-I won't do what I did to you again. Please, let me help you," he pleads.
I turn my head to him. Stare at his sincere and pleading look. He looks like a lost little puppy.
"Okay," I whisper.
"Okay?"
"Mhm. You can stay. I'll give you another chance."
He grins, running over and hugging me tightly. I squeak, surprised. He let's go quickly, frowning when he sees my uneaten food.
"You need to eat."
"I'm not hungry."
"Sera, eat now or I'm going to make you."
I sigh, grabbing my toast and jam. I eat it slowly, feeling slightly nauseated. After eating, I set it down.
"Happy, Mom?" I tease, slightly annoyed.
He smiles.
"Yes, very."
I roll my eyes, feeling tired all of a sudden. I yawn, closing my eyes.
"Sera? Want me to stay?" Quinn asks softly.
I don't answer, but he comes over to my bedside anyways. He grabs a chair and sits by me, while I drift off into a surprisingly good dream.
A/N
So, this was just as bad, right? Hehe... Anyway! The video doesn't EXACTLY fit the chapter, but I love the song, so I put it up. Most of the songs I put will probably just be something I recently listened to.
