Chapter Two

Growing tired of struggling, Silver sat on the cold, concrete floor looking out of the glass that stood beyond him. Without knowing exactly how long it was since Ash picked him up in the Carnivorous Cave, he guessed it had been about a day or so since Scarlet was behind him, watching every second he was being taken away, trying her best to save him. He didn't want that to be the last thing she saw of him, but of course, all it did was flash in his mind every time his eyes closed. The nightmare wouldn't leave him alone.

Silver sighed, standing up to give the glass one last pound before he gave up. When his fist hit the window, he stumbled back, trying to keep his balance. The blaze of her sweatshirt peeked into his vision from his own reflection. The dark blue eyes looking back at him lightened as he pictured her. The two of them walking on the beach with his hand in hers flooded his mind. Every laugh at his jokes and the way she reacted when he made her mad. A small smile spread onto his lips as he lifted it up just a little, wanting nothing more than to be closer to Scarlet. If only this one piece of her could tell him all of her thoughts and how she was doing. He could only hope she missed him as much as he felt lost without her.

Ash left, but he wasn't sure exactly how long he was gone. Silver wanted to take a chance and try to escape, leaving this evil man in the dust and go back to being happy with Scarlet. But he knew that if he started to get out, Ash would walk right back in and shove him back into this corner. Scarlet's parents were right across from him in their own little glass container, crying. He didn't know how long they had been here, but he would do everything in his power to get them back. All he could imagine was the look on her face when he came back with her parents. He grinned. She'd jump into his arms in a heartbeat, planting a kiss on his lips, and he wanted nothing more. Now he just had to make it happen.

It was too easy to pace around this little area he was happily given by Ash. Pacing would do nothing. He needed to get out of here. By the edge of the glass, he knelt down, wanting to find a way to push the glass up. Part of him knew that it wasn't possible. It would take more than just getting out of the hole. But as he was trying to pull the glass off the ground, strength leaving his body, a whiff of her perfume swam through his nostrils. Roses. Red just like her fiery hair that he wanted to touch. He hoped the scent never left him so he could breathe it in every day until he found her again. With that one little memory, everything came back. He pushed and pulled, wanting her. He wanted to get out, but now he needed it even more. Silver promised he would be back and he wasn't going to break that.

But just as he thought he might have a chance, keys jiggled through the door to the left of him. Silver jumped back, making sure he didn't give off any evidence that he was trying to escape. Ash walked through the door, smiling at Silver. "Hey there, buddy. Ready to do some work for me?"
