Chapter 8
I had to tell Jo about everything. I just had to. She was my best friend right now, and I had to spill everything to her. Her reaction was priceless! She screamed and jumped all around, hugging me again and again exclaiming how shocked and happy she was for me. I couldn't help but smile at her, she was so cute.
After practice, Dean embraced me, full of compassion. And he brushed some of the bangs from my eyes as he picked up my hand to kiss my fingers. I felt at peace. Complete serenity, as I was in the arms of Dean Winchester. I fixed my glasses as he rubbed my arms slowly. When it was time for him to leave, he didn't want to let go of my hand. I giggled and told him to go. He smirked and walked away, throwing me his signature kiss. I waved small, a smile growing on my face.
"You are so in love, aren't you?" Jo said, her sanding next to me. Her sudden appearance made me jump and yelp. She laughed. It made me wonder how long she's been watching.
"H-How long have you been there...?" I asked, nervous and embarrassed, my cheeks flushed red.
"I come out of the building and I see him throwing kisses at you! And that smile you had? OMG." She answered.
Thank God. She didn't see everything.
"O-Oh... you saw that?" I brushed some haf behind my ear, trying my best to not show my blushes to much.
"Yes!" She scoffed. "And you're in love with him, it's all over your face!"
"N-No... I'm not." I said, in denial.
"Oh common'! Who do you think you're kidding! He's like earth and heaven to you!"
" Stop it Jo..." I replied, trying my best not to laugh.
"Don't try and keep it hidden... Listen to me when I say, you, my friend, have got it bad!" She nudged my arm.
"I won't say I'm in love!" I exclaimed, giggling and nudged her back.
"Cas , don't be proud," She whispered. "It's okay you're in love." She pulled me into her arms and hugged me warmly.
"Well, at least out loud, I won't say it." I replied, both of us laughing afterwards. She pulled me back and patted my shoulder.
"Good luck Friday." She smiled, that same happy, bright, gleaming smile.
I counted the seconds to that day. And soon enough, it came.
The school day flashed by. It's like time was speeding up so I can go on that-- date. Dean smiled at me through the hallways, when ever I saw him, shooting me with those gorgeous green eyes. And all throughout classes, I couldn't stop thinking about him. Or what he had 'planned' for us. I thought his smile, his eyes, his shirtless body during practice... it made me sigh and smile like crazy.
For now, I'm at home. Staring at myself in the long mirror I had against the wall of my room. I started to feel hysterical, and if I was actually ready to do this. My heartbeat was normal, but each beat felt like my heart was going to explode out of my body. I stared at myself. I had black pants on, with black shoes, a long sleeve button down shirt, and a navy tie. It was loose, and backwards. I tied it completely wrong.
"Are you ready?" Raphael knocked on my door. I replied yes, and he walked in. He looked at me, smiling. "You look nice..."
"Raph... I'm so scared..." I stammered, tears falling down my cheeks. Raph walked up to me and gave me one of his famous hugs. I hugged him back tightly. Sobbing in his chest. He rubbed my back, trying to comfort me.
"You'll be fine Castiel." He started. "Remember, take your trenchcoat. You'll feel better. And you have that phone, to call in case of an emergency." I picked up my head, and nodded, sniffling and rubbing my eyes.
"Okay..." Was all I could say.
"You're not going to wear your glasses?" He asked.
"No... I don't really need them right now. I can see okay." I replied. He chuckled, probably thinking how innocent I was. He pulled me back and rubbed my shoulders.
"Have fun, promise me that." He added. I nodded again, smiling small. A doorbell was heard. We both turned to the sudden sound. "He's here. Say bye to Gabriel and come down, okay?" I nodded again. Raphael left my room and walked downstairs. i grabbed my trenchcoat and put it on, then I slipped down the hallway and up to Gabriel's door. I stopped, took a deep breath, and knocked the same rhythmic knock.
"Gabriel?" I began. "Please, I know you're in there... I'm always wondering how you've been. I'm leaving... and Raph says to have courage, and I'm trying to... but I want to hear it from you... Common, just let me in." I said softly, waiting for an answer. He didn't reply. And it broke my confidence. I felt so hurt. It basically told me he didn't care. "Goodbye Gabriel." I said finally, and walked away.
Coming down the stairs, I see Dean and Raphael sharing small talk. As I reached the end of the stairs, Raph turns to me, smiling. Dean turned afterwards, that same bright smile growing on his face. I felt sheepish, I hid behind the rail. Dean outstretched his hand to me. He was wearing jeans, they looked brand new, and he had a plaid shirt, with a black undershirt. Or his shirts, he had a leather jacket, that looked sooth and new. His eyes seemed to pop out, and his smile enhancing it. Cautiously, I took his hand, my coat covering my hand. Dean turned to Raphael.
"Thank you, for giving permission for letting me take him out this evening." Dean smiled.
"Not at all son," Raphael smiled back. "If he gets hurt in anyway I'm going to kill you." He added bluntly, keeping his smile. Dean tried his best to keep his, clearing his throat awkwardly.
"Understood..." He replied. "Let's go Cas." He turned to me. I glanced at Raph as he gestured me to go. I looked back to Dean and nodded. He opened up the door and pulled me out. As soon as I closed the door, it was like walking into a different world. I was scared. Completely scared. Dean walked me over to his car. It was long, and black. It was beautiful. It was old fashioned, I could tell by the style.
"This is my baby." Dean spoke up. "A nineteen sixty-seven, black, Chevrolet Impala." He sighed proud. "It was my father's." I looked back to the car, looking at it with a whole different feeling. It was his father's; no wonder why has so much pride and love for it. Now I completely respect it. Dean opened the passenger side door for me. Hesitantly, I sat into the car. He ran around and jumped into the car, completely excited.
"You ready?" He asked and looked to me, beaming. I nodded, still terrified to say anything. He started the car, and the roar of the engine made me jump. Quickly, I put my seatbelt on. He put the car in drive and took off. I was only used to Ralph's driving, so I was completely nervous.
"So, I'm going to take you out to eat." He started. "I have a reservation for us at a nice little diner I though you might like."
"Oh." I smiled, thinking how thoughtful that was. "Thank you Dean." His smiler got wider.
"Anything for you Baby." He relied. I blushed whenever he called me that. It made me feely fuzzy in the inside. No one has ever called me that besides Gabriel, except his was insulting. "Oh, and out look really nice. That backwards tie? So cute." He chuckled, glancing at me and fixed his eyes on the road. Remembering that my tie was like that, I giggled and smiled small. Dean was so good to me, even for the small mistakes I made.
We arrived at the diner. He parked the car, jumped out, ran around it just to open my door for me. I smiled, and stepped out. Somehow, I tripped and landed into his arms. He laughed, that amazing laugh, as he held me, snuggling his face into my shoulder. I giggled and wrapped my arms around his neck. He pulled away and grabbed my hand, walking us to the diner. Once we stopped inside, I let go of his hand, soaking in the aroma. It smelled like barbeque sauce and wood. Suddenly, a woman walked up to us, her apron around her waist. She had brown hair and eyes. Her lips were thin as it smiled.
"Hey Dean. Long time no see." She said. She knows Dean?
"Hey Ellen." Dean smiled. Ellen looked to me.
"Who's this cutie?" She asked, scanning me.
"This is Castiel. The swim team's new manager." Dean introduced me proudly.
"Oh really? Do you know my daughter Jo?" She asked me. Jo! So this is her mother! I felt so much better.
"Yes. She is so sweet." I replied, giving a smile. Ellen chuckled softly.
"Alright then. You two can sit wherever ya like." She added and walked away to the kitchen. Dean grabbed my wrist and pulled me toward a booth. We each took a seat, and slid into them. Ellen came back out after a while and took our order. I didn't really want anything, so I decided to share with whatever Dean wanted. He asked for fifteen piece boneless wings. Ellen smiled and jotted down his order on a notepad, then walked away.
Dean turned to me with his same smile. And those stunning eyes. "I couldn't help but notice you without your glasses." He said. "You're eye are so beautiful and blue, I could just stare into them all day." He always made me blush.
"Thank you...." I said bashfully, playing with my thumbs underneath the table. "I can't stop staring at yours either. They distract me a little to much." Dean laughed softly. We talked. We talked about a lot of different things. I told him how I was always to myself, and he told me about his younger brother, Sam, how he was always complaining. I laughed at his stories, they always ended up being funny. And he laughed at mine, saying that they were always so adorable.
"Here you are boys." Helen interrupted us, placing the plate down. "And i forgot to ask y'all for your drinks, so I just brought water." Dean thanked her and she walked away smiling.
Oh no.
I loomed at the cup in front of me. I stared at the water inside of it. It taunted me as it consumed the ice it had. I started to hyperventilate. My heart skipped beats, and my hands began to tremble.
Please.
Please, please no...
My eyes started to water. I clutched my hands as my whole body started to tremble. I looked up to Dean, scared. He was checking his phone for any messages or missed calls.
"D-Dean..." My voice began to break up. He immediately picked up his head and his smile dropped.
"Castiel? What's the matter Baby?" He asked, concerned.
"T-The cup... take it away... please." I replied, my voice started to shake.
"The cup of water?" He asked, confused.
"YES!" I yelled a bit, feeling shot as he said the word water. Quickly, he grabbed the glass and moved it to the far end of the table, taking his too.
"Castiel, what's wrong? Is there something you're not telling me? You look like you just seen a murder!" He asked, his expression looked sad. I didn't want to tell him. It was so ridiculous and shameful.
But I did.
"I have a really bad case of hydrophobia." I started. "And I suffer from Post-Traumatic Self Disorder."
"Then what are you doing as manager? I can't imagine how you must feel staring at the pool everyday!" Dean answered. I was surprised. I expected a completely different answer. He actually cared.
"It's so I can get my Physical Ed credit..." I replied, swallowing hard. "Plus... I'm watching you all the time, I don't even realize the water. I forget."
Dean's expression changed to sympathy. A smile barely graced his lips. He looked down. "After this, I'm going to take you somewhere... else."
"Where...?"
"It's a surprise." He lifted his eyes. His smile wasn't bright, but it had caring. I nodded. What did i just agree to?
When we were done, Dean paid and even left a tip for Ellen. She said her goodbyes and we said ours. Walking out of the diner, I shivered. I still couldn't believe I told Dean my dark secret. And I couldn't believe that he responded with so much compassion. He opened the car door for me, I dropped inside. Then he climbed into the car. We sat there in silence for a bit.
"Give me your tie." Dean broke the silence. I looked at him weirdly.
"W-What....?"
"Give me your tie." He repeated. Hesitantly, I untied it, pulled it off, and handed it to him. Once i did, he wrapped it around my eyes.
"Dean!" I cried, scared of what he was going to do. He shushed me.
"The place I'm going to show you is a surprise, and I don't want you to look." He replied. I swallowed hard, and nodded. Having trust in his judgement. I heard him start the car and heard it drive off onto the street. We drove for a while, and then I heard the tires come to a stop. I heard him get out of the car, close his door, and walk around to open mine. He helped me out. I kept my hand on his arms, following him where ever he lead me.
"Almost there." He mentioned. I responded with an okay. Finally, he stopped me, and told me to wait for a minute. He let go.
Where am I? Where did he go?
I was scared. I was blind folded and left alone. I had no idea what was going on. Then, I heard music. It didn't sound to far away. It sounded like it came from the Impala. It sounded old fashioned. It started:
Oh, I can't fight this feeling any longer...
Then I felt somebody scoop me off my feet. I yelped, with the voice of Dean telling me it was him.
And yet I'm still afraid to let it flow...
I felt calmer. He was carrying me.
What started out as friendship has grown stronger...
What in the world is he doing?
I really wish I had the strength to let it show...
"Dean..." I said softly.
I told myself that I can't hold out forever...
"It's okay Cas." Was all he replied.
I said there is no reason for my fear...
"W-What are you doing...?" I asked.
'Cause I feel so secure when we're together...
"Something." I could hear his smirk. Suddenly, I felt something lukewarm. Covering half of my body. I wrapped my arms over Dean's neck quickly. That's when I realized he was shirtless.
You give my life direction...
"Don't freak out, okay?" Dean said. Then he took the tie off my face. I opened my eyes and found both of us in the middle of a pool. I screamed. "Castiel! Calm down! Look at me! Look at me!" Dean held my arms down, and turned my head to make me look into his eyes.
You make everything so clear...
I was terrified. I was panting so hard, tears started to fall from my eyes. I could hear my younger self drowning in that lake.
And even as I yonder!
"Dean... please... get me out of here..." I cried. He shook his head.
I'm keeping you in sight!
"Look into my eyes Baby..." Dean spoke, soothingly. I obeyed him. I looked into those green, magnificent eyes. My younger self disappeared.
You're a candle in the window on a cold, dark winter's night..
I was lost in those beautiful eyes. He held me closer, and wrapped his arms around me. The two of us in the pool. "Dean... please...." I persisted.
And I'm getting closer than I ever thought I'd might....!
"It's okay Baby. I got you..." He leaned in close to my face, our noses touching. And as soon as I knew it, he places his lips on mine.
Baby, I can't fight this feeling anymore!
He kissed me, making it deeper. I closed my eyes, and melted into his shirtless body. My fingers ran through his still dry hair.
I forgotten what I started fighting for!
I ignored it. No, I forgot it. I forgot that water was all around me. For the first time, in eight years, I didn't care that I was in water.
It's time to bring this ship onto the shore...
I was in Dean's arms... and that's all I cared about. He was kissing me, and that's all I paid attention to.
And throw away the oars...
He pulled back, and rested his forehead against mine. I panted lightly, as we looked into each other's eyes. He smiled his bright smile.
"Castiel James Novak, I believe I am in love with you." He said, barely above a whisper.
Forever...
I smiled. A bright smile as he told me those words.
Baby I can't fight this feeling anymore!
He made me forget about my phobia for those five minutes.
I forgotten what I started fighting for!
He made me feel complete peace in my mind, for the first time in forever.
Even if I have to crawl upon the floor...
He made me happy.
Come crashing though your door...
He made me fall... in love.
Baby, I can't fight this feeling anymore...
