Chapter 10

I was sitting in the living room alone thinking about random things. George was at a recording session with John, Paul, and Ringo, for their up coming album, Please Please Me, so I had the day to myself. It was boring really, and I'd have much rather enjoyed spending my time with George, but he'd insisted I stayed home.

I sighed as I walked over to the window. The spring sky was dark and the windowpane was speckled with droplets of water. The over all weather was overcast and gloomy. It seemed that it matched the way I felt that morning. I felt so empty and depressed. I hadn't really felt that way in a while. I thought that maybe I was finally okay since I'd been with George.

I looked down at my wrists. They were perfectly clean of any scratches or scars. I hadn't thought about self harm in a while. It made me feel stupid and small and so helpless. All of the other times I thought about it, I could manage to fight off my thoughts, but this time my mind took over.

I ran into the bathroom and locked the door just in case George came home. I looked through the cabinets to try and find a razor, or anything sharp really. Eventually I found a small razor in the back behind one of George's bottles of aftershave and picked it up. I took it between my index finger and my thumb, and I let the tip of the blade puncture my soft skin.

I let the sharp blade gently graze my left wrist. I bit my lip because of the horrible sting, and if George came home, I didn't want him to hear me.. Blood began to gush out of the cut. "I don't deserve George.. He deserves better than me. There's millions of girls far prettier than me, and every one of them deserves George more than I do. He doesn't need me. I'm an outcast in his world... I'm poor, ugly, and I'm worthless. I'm not necessary." I began making more small incisions on my wrists, thinking a new horrible thought with each. I had just made the final cut, when George came home.

He set his guitar down by the door and walked into the living room. I rushed to get all of the blood off of my arms and hide the razor. "Aurora, where are you?" He asked. "I'm in the bathroom, George," I shouted. "Alright, well, I'm going to change. Then we can do whatever you'd like."

"Okay, sweetheart," I said. I heard George walking down the hallway and quietly mumbled, "Fuck," as he went by. The cuts hurt still and the blood hadn't fully stopped. I wasn't exactly sure what to do, but I didn't want George to see them. He stopped just a little ways past the door. "What's the matter, love?" He asked cautiously.

I shook my head, even though I knew he couldn't see me. "Nothing. I'm fine," I whispered. "I just...cut myself on a glass shard, and I was trying to wash the blood off, but it stung a little." My tone had changed slightly during the last sentence. He had surely known I was lying. "Aurora, really. What's wrong?"

I sighed and bit my lip harshly. "Nothing. It's okay. Please just get changed. I'll be okay." George didn't move at all. "Please just tell me what's wrong..." He tried to open the door, but it was still locked. "Aurora, please. If you're fine, why is the door locked? Please just let me in..."

I leaned against the door and slid down it until I was sitting on the floor. I pulled my knees to my chest and wrapped my arms around them. "I don't want you to see me like this. You'll hate me, and you'll never want to see me again. You'll leave me alone like everyone else always does..." I could hear George's deep breaths on the other side of the door. I could tell he was worried. "I could never hate you, and there's no way I would ever leave you."

I stood up again and leaned against the door. "Okay... I'll let you in. But I'm warning you, you're not going to like what you see, and I know you'll end up hating me." I unlocked the door and slowly backed away as George walked in. His eyes went from my face down to my wrists, and he saw all of the blood.

He looked up at me. "Why...?" He asked with a voice so scarce I could barely hear it. I looked down. I couldn't take looking at him. I felt like it would make it worse. "It's me, isn't it..." George said quietly. I shook my head. "It's not you, George. It's just... I don't know." I looked up and sighed quietly. "I'm not necessary, George."

"What do you mean?" He asked. I leaned on the wall and looked down again. "I'm not an important thing in your life. I'm not needed to make you happy. There are thousands of girls who are dying to be yours. I'm sure any one of them could make you happier than I can. All of them are far prettier than me, and they deserve you more than I do, too."

"You are necessary, and one of those things are true. Maybe there are thousands of girls who want to be with me, but I don't want any of them. I want you, no one else." I shook my head slightly. "I don't deserve you. I'm not the best person in the world. I'm not the prettiest girl. I'm not the one with the best figure. I'm not the smartest person. There are far better people you could be with. You don't need me."

George stood in front of me and gently lifted my head up. "Aurora, please, just listen to me. I want to be with you. Not anyone else. I don't care about what happened in the past. I only care about now and the future. I don't care about what anyone else thinks. To me, you're the most beautiful girl in the world. You've got the best figure out of any girl I've met, and you're the smartest, too. You could line up every single girl in the entire world in front of me to choose from, and I would choose you every time. I don't have a doubt in my mind about wanting to be with you. I want to be with you now, and I want to be with you in the future, too. I want to marry you. I want you to be my wife, and I want to have a family with you. Please don't doubt any of that. I love you more than anything in the universe, and nothing is ever going to change my mind, Aurora."

I wasn't quite sure what to say. I was horrible with words, so I just hugged him as tight as I could. I don't think he was really expecting it either because he tensed up for a second before wrapping his arms around me. "Please don't hurt yourself anymore. You don't deserve it. You never have. And I need you, Aurora."
