Chapter 12
The day has finally come to move to our new house. We will not know where our camp is located until we get there, but we are leaving within the hour. One after another, groups of twenty are being transported to their new camp.
My groups consists of everyone who was in the room during the second week of quarantine along with another small group. Our group is called up to the disk and before I'm ready, the same feeling of being turned inside-out that I felt when Charlotte transported us sweeps over me again.
One moment we are in a room full of people excited to finally be done with quarantine; the next we are in another large, but completely empty room.
"Please step off of the arrival pad," an annoyed masculine voice interrupts my thoughts. As I step off the slightly raised platform, I turn and look in the direction the voice came from. Recognition hits me as I take in his appearance, it is Hunter, the intern who ran into me that day in the market and escorted Joy and I to Charlotte's office. He is dressed in the same clothes everyone else is wearing a gray t-shirt with black jeans and combat boots. His attitude clearly hasn't improved since the last time I saw him. Maybe he is just in a perpetual bad mood because everytime I see him, he is rude and curt.
As more groups arrive, we move away from the platform to make room for everyone. Soon the room is packed wall to wall with people. A noise comes from across the room and I see Charlotte walk out onto a stage I hadn't noticed in my earlier examination of the room.
"Welcome," her words spread through the room by way of a voice amplifier, "to your new home. These camps are designed to be fully self sufficient without any help from the government. It is our hope that these camps will be long lived and prosperous. All of you have been given this opportunity for specific reasons. Nobody is here on accident, all of you were chosen for a purpose.
You are the future of Revere. Without you there is no hope for our continued survival. This camp is located in a temperate climate. It is on a continent that used to be called Europe. This part of Europe was called England before the Great War. In honor of the history surrounding this country your camp is named London.
This will not be easy. There will be cold winters, but with our advanced technology there will be no danger of health issues related to the cold. The indoor agriculture centers will protect the livestock and crops. Rarely will Revere interfere with the going ons of London. Rather we will work together for the good of all and continue our endeavor to cure the plague, but if all else fails, these camps will be protected at all costs for the sake of the continued survival of mankind." She finally pauses although only to emphasize the importance of her words.
"I won't hold you for much longer because I'm sure you all want to aquaint yourselves with your new homes and roommates. You will be dismissed in group of four based on housing assignments. Please be patient and remember to retrieve your orientation materials on your way out. Thank you and good luck." She finishes and leaves the way she came likely off to give a similar speech to the next camp.
Kayla, Joy, and I are finally called and we reach the area for our orientation material, there is a blond girl already waiting for us. Unlike Kayla and I who are tan from all of our work outside, this girl has a fair complexion which is more similar to Joy than to either of us.
An AI hands us the material and we walk up to the girl.
"Hi, you must be Alyssa. I am Coral, and this is Kayla along with my sister Joy." I introduced myself while gesturing behind me to Kayla and Joy who followed me over.
"Let's not beat around the bush," she starts off in a cold voice while the three of us look at each other in confusion. "Srats and elitists should never mix. I can almost feel my I.Q. dropping just from being in your presence. So here's the deal, you don't talk to me, you don't even look at me. Soon they will realize what a mistake they made in trying to force the elite to socialize with the srats and this disaster will be fixed immediately." She finishes with a huff before turning on her heel and disappearing into the crowd.
"Well that was unexpected." Kayla comments as we watch Alyssa leave in shock.
"I don't think she is very nice." Joy chimes in causing Kayla and I to laugh at the innocence in her statement. She never did understand the divide between the srats and the scientific elite. She hated it when Lillian, our older sister, abandoned the family for the elite.
"Since she left us, we are on our own trying to find the tiny house we are living in." I try to bring our focus back to the more pressing issues.
"Here's a map!" Kayla waves the ultra thin tablet we were given with the orientation materials around in the air excitedly. We follow the directions and come to a tiny two story house. Despite how small it is, is absolutely beautiful. The first floor has a stone base on the outside and the second story is wooden with lots of windows. There is even a fireplace visible inside.

Picture above is what the outside of the house looks like.
The inside is just as beautiful as the outside is. The first floor contains small couch in front of the fireplace, a tiny kitchenette, and a small square table with four chairs in the corner. On one side of the room there is a ladder leading to the second floor. The second story is very open and it has four small beds, one in each corner. A bag already lays on the bed in one of the corners. Alyssa must of all ready been here and claimed that one as hers. Kayla, Joy, and I each lay our meager belongings on a bed. After discussing the events of the day and looking over the orientation materials, we decided to go to bed even though Alyssa has not yet returned from wherever she's gone.
My orientation packet told me the intern I've been assigned to work with will pick me up at eight am sharp from the house and show me where I'll be working and what I will be doing.
At promptly 8 a.m., a sharp knock sounds on the door and I open it expecting to see a friendly intern ready to teach me about my new job. Instead, I am greeted by the constantly irritated intern Hunter.
