Dear Father,
I know you don't approve of Wilson but I am writing this because I want to take the time to inform you on how good of a person he is.
He has made me happy since I met him at my birthday gala. I now could never imagine a life with him. Being the only child, he's been great company when I need a shoulder to cry on. He does mean the world to mean and I hope you can understand why I made my decision.
He has done so much for me and continues to do even more. He tries everyday to win your approval and love. Mother believes he is such a great boy and she accepts our relationship. We all wish you would open your eyes and do the same.
Father, I do love you. I am also growing up. Trying to prevent me from experiencing heartbreak and pain isn't going to help me. I need to find these things out myself. I need to know what it feels to be loved, to be heartbroken, to have a home to call my own, to get married, and to have a family. I want to grow up now.
It's been eighteen years already. Time flew by as a child and I understand that as a parent, those eighteen years felt more like eighteen days. I thank you for the woman you sculpted me into and everything you have done for me. But, it's Wilson's turn to prove he is worthy to you.
He has never rose his hand to me. He has protected me from other forces. He makes me laugh when I am sad and calms me down when I get angry. He'll tell me I'm beautiful when I'm standing in the rain, soaking to the bone. My hair would be drenched, makeup running, dress drenched but he still finds that attractive. He holds my hand in public and isn't ashamed to call me mine. He refuses to allow me to pay for anything even though we're so much better off than him. He sacrifices so much for me. Please give him some room in your heart.
He plans to move no further in our relationship until he has your blessing. He doesn't want to mess this up and ruin our family.
But the reason I love him the most is he gave up everything to be with me. His mother kicked him from his house and he stays with his uncle. His father refuses to talk to him and his siblings have removed themselves from his life. He lost everything to move up here closer to us. He works to pay his rent and bills as he saves any extra money for a date. He always tells me 'One more week Arrietty my dear. We can go downtown to your favorite shop. We'll go together.'
He gave up everything to be a dad.
I apologize we didn't wait. I apologize that this is the way you obtain this knowledge. But we are expecting a baby in seven months. We hope you don't get mad and it pains me to tell you like this.
As you read this, I hope I convinced you to allow Wilson to be a factor in my life. We are currently on a camping trip and we will be back by the nineteenth of this month. As luck would have it, that happens to be Wilson's birthday. Please Father, think about this.
Love,
Arrietty
"How made do you think your father is right now?" Wilson asked as he casted the fishing pole, landing the bait into the water with a satisfying plop.
"I hope not too mad," I answered.
He looked over his shoulder at me and his face softened dramatically. I smiled slightly and a giant tug at the line of the fishing rod pulled Wilson into the water.
"Wilson!" I quickly stood up and he surfaced with the fishing pole in hand.
"Damn fish got away." He pulled himself back onto the dock and pouted slightly.
I laughed at his drenched body and kissed his lips slightly.
His wet black hair stuck to his face, covering his freckled cheeks and brown eyes. His clothes also clung to his body when he pulled me into a hug.
"I love you Arrietty."
"I love you too."
He set me on the ground and I felt my mood grow quite somber after looking at my stomach.
"What's wrong my dear?" He grabbed my hands in his before I looked at him.
"Please be honest with me. Do you want a boy or a girl?"
"I want him or her healthy. I want a healthy baby with a healthy mom back home. And if the baby were to be disabled, I would also love and accept that child. I want what's best for our family my love."
I nodded slightly as he went over to grab his fishing pole. He took my hand in his as he pulled me up from my seat.
"Shall we?"
