"Your first mistake was allowing the suspects to stay together."

She looked at me quite shocked when I examined the body closer. I measures the drops of blood and collected the information the CSI agent collected. I held the clipboard tightly in my gloved hands as I flipped through the sheets of paper.

"Any fingerprints?" I asked and he shook his head.

"It seems to be an unforced entry." I looked over at the door and bit my lip.

"I need this to be tested," I pointed.

"W-why sir?"

I cleared my throat as my clear excuse was needed.

"Imagine you're standing here like this. If you get stabbed here, the blood travels at a speed of about 55 feet per second. The blood is elongated and stretched here showing it came in contact at about a ten degree angle. Sounds about right. The body was located here. But!" I walked over to the door across the room and pointed out more blood. "Whoever killed her also got injured. This blood was traveling at about 5 feet per second and hitting the floor at a straight ninety degree angle. The diameter of the droplets show that the wound was from three feet from the ground."

"Sir, where was the victim standing when she was murdered?"

I walked over to in the corner and stood facing the wall.

"The back of her is where the shallowest wounds are. As the killer got more in the rush, the deeper the wounds. The stab wounds appear to be a knife small."

"The wounds are pretty big to me." The police officer commented and I nodded.

"A trained eye would spot that over here, the cast off stains of the knife show a smaller blade. If it were larger, the blood would be greater in quantity."

"Sir, they need you at the station."

I cleared my throat and climbed into my car. As I made my way into my office, I saw a young teenage girl sitting in one of the chairs.

"What is your business here?" I asked her and she looked up at me.

"I came here to establish an alibi and that's it. I don't want to meddle in this," she rambled in suppressed sighs.

"Wait wait let's go over here," I guided her towards the interrogation room.

She looked at me in the eyes and clutched her hands together.

"I didn't kill her. And Eric was with me the entire time. We were at the movies when I got the phone call. We've been out all day." She swallowed her breath and began to panic.

"Calm down."

"Please believe me." She began to cry into her hands when I looked at her.

"I do."

After questioning the family and friends of the victim, we gained useful information and I scanned the notes.

"Caspar did it." The girl, who established the alibi, said.

"What's your name?"

"Lissa."

"How are you so sure?"

"He always hated Sophie. She stopped hooking up with him and he got pissed. He always threatened to kill her but we never thought he would actually do it."

I shook my head and looked at the girl straight into her eyes.

"Who is her best friend?"

"Y-you think she did it?!"

"Please give me the girl's name."

"She would never!"

"I need her name."

"I-it's Kaycee. But she would never I swear!"

I walked out of the room and locked the door behind me. I left Lissa banging on the door as I laid her cellphone on my desk and looked up Kaycee's information. I pulled up her mother's phone number and called.

"Excuse me ma'am. I am working with the San Fransisco Police and CSI on Sophie's case. I would like to request that you brought your daughter in. I have a few questions about Sophie. Okay. Thank you." I laid my phone on the desk after and stretched out.

I stood from my desk and walked back to Lissa beating the door. I opened it and she began beating me when I grabbed her wrists and sat her in the chair.

"Slow down."

I looked at her and she ripped herself from my grasp. I rose my eyebrow at a cut on her forearm that she attempted to cover.

"Can you stand up and raise your arm slightly for me?" I pulled the measuring tape from my pocket. "Three feet."

"You're assuming I killed her. Aren't you?"

I shook my head and shooed her out of the room when Kaycee came in and sat down.

"Does she know?" I asked her mother and her mother shook her head. "Kaycee, Sophie's mother filed a missing person report and she is officially missing."

Kaycee widened her eyes and stumbled to stand up. She clutched the table and covered her mouth.

"I bet that bitch did it! She took my best friend! It had to have been Lissa! Arrest her!"

"I need to ask you questions first please calm down. When was the last time you saw Sophie?"

"The last time I saw her was about noon today."

"Was she acting strange? Different?"

"Um, no. She did not act strange." She compressed her body slightly and rubbed her ear slightly.

"How close are you two?"

"We were best friends. Sisters."

"Did you see her after noon?"

"No I did not see her after noon. I was shopping with friends and took a drive." She looked at my hands writing the notes and set her glass of water in front of her.

I smiled slightly and looked up at Kaycee.

"Kaycee. I need to see your forearm please."

She showed me a deep incision and looked at me in fake confusion. I stood up and nodded slightly.

"I'll be right back." I walked over to the DA and my partner.

"We have the girl."

"How are you so sure?"

"I told her Sophie was missing. She continued to use my questions in her lie of an answer. She didn't use contractions when she was talking at all. She tried going beyond my question to make the lie seems believable. She immediately remained stiff the entire time and never made eye contact with me. She touched her ears and rubbed her neck a lot then placed a cup between us. Those are all signs of a liar."

"That means nothing."

"Oh." I chuckled slightly and looked at them.

"So?"

"She used 'was' will answering my question of how close they 'are.' I asked in present she answered in past. I never told her Sophie was dead. No one did. Plus Lissa's arm measured around three feet when rose uncomfortably high. I didn't give it slack to be held against her so that didn't happen here. But Kaycee's cut measures three feet when held against her body in a comfortable way." I popped a sunflower seed in my mouth and smiled big. "You owe me a cold champagne now."
