Chapter 14

Jill was the first to stir and cleared her throat while she parked the car, moving arm away from my chest. "Are you ok?" she asked and looked at me with wide eyes filled with fear and a pale face. "You are kind of pale."

I nodded and pressed my lips into a thin line, not taking my eyes off the wolf. "I am," I said hesitantly before I cleared my throat and shifted in my seat. "I am ok."

I am excited to see an actual Werewolf...

I tore my attention from the Werewolf in front of me and looked at Jill to see that she was also looking kind of pale and nervous. "Are you ok?" I asked, growing concerned about the female that was supposed to be considered my new mother. "I mean, you are also kind of pale."

Jill forced a small smile on her face. "I am fine," she said and looked away from me as if she didn't want me to know the truth.

I slowly blinked, unamused, and rolled my eyes because I did not believe her for a second. "Hmph." I turned my attention back to the wolf in front of us with lips pressed into a thin line and an unamused look on my face.

The wolf's eyes seemed to sparkle with amusement as if he understood the look on my face and tucked his head closer to his chest before he lifted his head to stare at me.

I cocked my head while I studied the wolf, and the hair on the back of my neck stood up at attention.

Jason...

It was a name that was whispered in my ear from an unknown source, but I knew that what it said was true.

The large wolf was Jason...

Jason lowered his head just a tad while he stared at me, and it seemed that he wanted me to get out of the car and see him up close and personal.

"Can I get out of the car?" I asked and started to unbuckle my seatbelt while I shifted in my seat. "Please?"

"I don't thi-" She stopped talking and looked at Jason with eyes wide and pressed her lips into a thin line. She didn't say a word while she looked at him.

Jason tore his gaze off of me and looked at Jill, saying something to her before he looked at me.

Jill grabbed her steering wheel tighter and set her jaw. She didn't say a word, but I knew that she was talking to Jason somehow even if I couldn't hear it.

"Please?" I asked while I finished taking off my seatbelt and placing my hand on the door handle, but I didn't look at her. "Can I go ahead and go outside and meet him?"

My hand started to shake while I waited for Jill's permission, and I couldn't help but start to feel excited, nervous even, for I wanted to see this "creature" up close and personal.

Jill looked at Jason before she looked at me. Her face was blank, but her eyes were filled with worry and fear. "The Alpha is dangerous, though," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "He could hurt you."

I pressed my lips into a thin line before I looked at Jason to see that he had rolled his eyes as soon as Jill said that.

Jason looked at me and stared at me, and it felt as if he was looking into my soul, even though I had no idea if it was true.

"I don't think so..." I said and cocked my head to the side while I looked at him, and Jason seemed to follow my lead and cocked his head, too. "I don't think he wants to hurt me but wants to test me..."

"Test you... how?" Jill asked and raised an eyebrow in question. She grabbed her steering wheel tighter while she set her jaw. "What do you mean by that?"

I shrugged and grimaced. "I don't know," I replied honestly, my voice turning softer while my voice was barely above a whisper. "All I know is that he wants to test me."

Jill pressed her lips into a thin line, not saying a word. She looked between the two of us before she looked at Jason.

He didn't look at her and continued to look at me. His ears were pricked toward me, and I could tell that he was studying me with a newfound interest that I could not explain or understand.

Jill bit back an annoyed sigh and slowly nodded, pressing her lips into a thinner line. "Ok," she said and cleared her throat while she shifted in her seat and started to tap on the steering wheel. "Go ahead and get out, but please, be careful."

I bit back a small smirk while I turned my attention away from Jason, breaking whatever connection that had been placed between the two of us while I stared at him. "I will be careful, Jill," I said before I opened the car door and stepped out of the car, turning my gaze back to him.

Sure enough, as soon as I stepped out of the car door and closed it, Jason pinned his ears to the back of his head and bared his teeth. He growled in warning before he launched himself toward me.

"Blaire!" Jill yelled in shock just as Jason did it. She opened the car door on her side and seemed to struggle with her seatbelt as if she was panicking too hard to help me.

"Stop," I said, not taking my eyes off of Jason while I gestured for her to stay put and not move toward us while Jason did what he needed to do. "I'm fine, and I will be fine."

I hope...

Jason stopped right in front of me and snapped just inches from my face, and I stayed put, not moving another muscle because I did not want him to think that I was weak. He growled and snapped again, trying but failing to get me to move.

Jill whimpered and grabbed the steering wheel tighter while she continued to watch this dance that we were doing. Her whole body was tense, and I could tell that she was afraid for me, even though I wasn't even afraid at all.

Jason stopped doing what he was when I didn't move a muscle and slowly nodded in confirmation. He flicked his tail and took a deep breath, smelling me and taking in my scent.

"Who is he, Jill?" I asked while I cocked my head and studied him.

"He's the Alpha," Jill said, and her voice was barely above a whisper but there was a small sigh of relief in her voice as if she was happy that I hadn't moved. She stayed where she was seated while she watched us, not knowing what was going on or what was happening to me. "He is the highest wolf ranked here."

"Here?" I asked, and Jill nodded in confirmation. "What do you mean by here?" I furrowed my brows and cocked my head while I studied him, not knowing what to do or what to ask.

Jason growled in warning and looked Jill's way. He narrowed his eyes further, and I had a feeling that he did not want Jill to answer that question.

"Jill?" I asked while I raised an eyebrow in question. I glanced at her from the corner of my eye before I looked at him again.

Jill bit back a small smile and shook her head, and a look of pain flashed through her eyes. "Unfortunately, I am not able to answer your question," she said softly before she cleared her throat and shifted in her seat. "The Alpha doesn't want you to know."

I held back an eye roll and pressed my lips into a thin line. I didn't say a word while I looked at Jason, not knowing why he didn't want me to know and couldn't help but wonder if it had to deal with me being "human."

"I'm sorry, Blaire," Jill said while she tucked her head closer to her chest. "I'm not able to tell you."

I sighed and slowly nodded, relenting without another fight. "Ok," I said before I cleared my throat and shifted on my feet. "Why is he here now? Can you answer that?"

"He wanted to meet you," she replied. "That's why he is here. He heard that you were a guest and were staying for the time being."

At least until I was eighteen... I pressed my lips into a thinner line and stayed silent while I looked at the Alpha of this pack, not knowing what to do or what to say.

Pain flashed through my eyes, and I couldn't help but tuck my head closer to my chest while I stared at him. I didn't say a word, and Jason's eyes grew softer when he caught something in my eyes that he understood.

He placed his nose on my cheek, and I couldn't help but smile and close my eyes while I placed my hand on his cheek, knowing full well that he was "welcoming" me as a member of his pack, even though he did not know me that well.

Welcome home, Blaire. Welcome home...
