At the crack of dawn, Jem woke up to the sound of some animals. It sounded like: "Chirp, chirp." Somehow, Jem knew that it was from an animal called a bird. Must be my special powers telling me that. she thought.

She stretched and arched her back. It must be very early, I'm so tired. Even though she tried to go back to sleep, she was already awake and couldn't sleep. So, she decided to look for Jason and eat breakfast.

She crept over to the door and pushed it open. She remembered the hallway from various trips outside. It was really busy out there with many furlesses doing many different things that ranged from cleaning the experiments to discussing what they wanted to eat for today.

Jem saw Jason walking towards the double doors that led to the cafeteria. So, she got up and followed him. The furlesses stared at her, but they seemed to know that she wasn't going to cause any trouble and let her proceed.

Jason turned around and saw Jem. "Up so early?" he asked.

"Yip! Purr..." Jem tried to say that she couldn't sleep after being woken up by birdsong.

Jason nodded. Then, looking around as if to see if anyone was watching, he whispered, "In case you're wondering, I can speak to animals."

Jason motioned to the room Jem had slept in. "Go back to your room. I'll bring you breakfast. I have many things I have to discuss with you."

Jem wondered what he wanted to tell her as she headed back to her room.
