Thirteen

I rest on an old camping chair by the shed, my Timberlands discarded nearby and thick socks balled up beside them. My tired legs stretch out beneath my khaki utility shorts and my bare feet push flat against the side of a big rock hidden in the shade of the sun and cool upon my soles.

Closing my eyes, I tilt my head back as the sunshine rays warm my face. I could stay like this all afternoon relaxing in the peace and quiet. My own personal sanctuary is suddenly disturbed as the light and warmth is obscured by a shadow. I flick my eyes wide to see an upside down Harry staring down at me. As I glance further, I catch sight of his bare chest and the chair lunges backwards sending me toppling to the floor and smashing my head on the concrete patio in the process. My hand immediately comes up to grip the side of my head as pain shoots through it. I lay sprawled out unladylike on the rough stone.

"Oh my god, Lily are you ok? I didn't mean to scare you." Harry falls immediately on his knees beside me, his hands reach under my elbows helping me to sit up. I move my hand away from the pain to see it's covered in blood.

"Oh that looks nasty, here." He grips the tee slung over his shoulder and scrunches it up. His long fingers gently encircle my wrist pulling it away from my head to replace it with the t-shirt. His warm hand cups the back of mine and lifts it to press on the material. "Hold that there whilst I help you up."

"Harry, not your tee, it'll get covered in blood." I winch in pain.

"Hey, don't worry, we can bin it after, I've got plenty more." His voice is soothingly calm. "Let's get you inside."

He rises to his feet but rather than extending his hand to me, he carefully leans over me and places both his hands under my elbows to lift me. My vision blurs as I stumble to get up. His arm reaches protectively around my waist, resting on my hip as he guides me towards the house.

As we walk back, he is holding me supportively into his side. He has clearly been for a run as he is wearing athletic gear again and his florescent trainers are caked in mud. I swallow hard when I notice his mane is under control today, scraped up in a bun. Where I hold the tee in place against my head, the back of my hand rests into his shoulder giving my gaze a full and uninterrupted view down his torso. Shit. Nice body. Amazing hair. Lightheadedness kicks in, is it the sight of his sculptured torso, his beautiful man bun, the fact I've banged my head or perhaps all three?

Once inside he helps me onto a stool and finds the first aid kit. The cut is not too deep and it doesn't take long to stop bleeding. He cleans the wound before placing a dressing securely over it. All the time his fingers work gently against my temple then skim delicately over my cheek, bathing the stinging grazes. I am totally distracted by him again as he stands in front of me. The view of his two chest swallow tattoos rise and fall steadily with his in and out breaths.

My eyes are drawn to the chain that hangs around his neck. I follow the line of silver links down his body to the cross hanging low between his pecks. The intensity is all a little too much. I attempt to slide off the stool indicating I'm fine but his palms lay flat against my shoulders and he stops me.

"No you don't, rest for a while, I'll make some tea."

I place my hand on my forehead, screwing my eyes tightly shut trying to oust the pain.

"You ok Lily? I don't think it needs stiches but it'll hurt like hell for a while."

"Yes, yes I'm fine thanks. I'll be fine." I have to change the subject. "How far did you run today?"

"Oh about three miles using our route from last week. The tracks are quite muddy and difficult in places but the scenery is amazing though."

"Sure is!" I laugh a bit too eagerly in agreement clearly not meaning the same scenery to which he is referring!

He shoots me a look and glances down at himself. He swiftly reaches for a hoodie that is resting over the back of a stool and pulls it over his head but not before I catch sight of his back muscles rippling as the material slides over them. As he turns away I catch a slight twitch of amusement cross his lips.

What is wrong with me, stop looking at him Lily, he's noticed.

Again we sit and drink tea and I realise that two more mugs of tea and an hour has passed with the onset of a raging headache and a swollen lump that I know will be bruising an array of hideous colours over the next few hours.

"You're looking a bit pale, are you sure you are ok?" He frowns concerned.

"No, actually I don't feel so good." With that my hand covers my mouth and I rush to the toilet and throw up. When I've composed myself, I step out from the toilet and Harry is leant up against the wall, his brows pulled together anxiously.

"I think you've got concussion. Best be safe than sorry so I'll take you home, just let me get my keys."

"It's ok I'll be fine, I need to lock the tools away in the shed anyway." I try to brush it off casually.

"Absolutely no way, you're not driving and I'll sort the tools when I get back. For now let's get you home, you need to rest." His tone is authoritatively caring.

Before I have time to argue, he strides off into the hallway to grab his keys and he's leading me out to his car. He pulls opens the passenger door, moving the coat and snazzy camera resting upon the front seat into the back and then offers me his hand. I step up into the huge Range Rover. It is so plush inside, I sink back into the soft seat, resting my throbbing head back on the headrest. The beautiful scent of leather smells divine against my nostrils. He climbs in beside me, starts the engine and pulls down of the driveway slowly, the tyres crunching over the stones below. Kodaline 'A Love Like This' streams through the speakers.

"Kodaline." I look across at him. I have no idea about his music taste but he obviously likes them.

"Yes, you like their music?"

"For sure, especially this song."

"Have you seen them in concert?" His glance flits back and forth from me to the road.

"No but I'd like too. You?"

"Yes, they're brilliant. I'm lucky enough to have written with them too."

I sit in quiet contemplation of that statement that fell from his lips with unpretentious ease, like writing songs with Kodaline is a normal everyday occurrence. Of course he has and of course it is, he's Harry Styles. But in all honesty, right now that world he usually inhabits seems so distant from his here and now. In that instant it all falls into place for me. I totally get why he's here, doing this and breaking the ties with his old life for simplicity, even if it's only for a little while. He's doing what he wants, when he wants, with no worries or expectations on him. As the song continues I turn to him.

"Does that world seem very far away from you at the moment?" I ask gently.

"Yes just a little bit." He scrunches up his nose and nods.

"Are you missing it?"

"Yes and no but not enough to go back, just yet." He replies assuredly.

"I so get it Harry," slips understandingly from my mouth.

"Get what?" He looks across at me perplexed.

"Get why you are doing all this."

He smiles, his green eyes shine wide. "Do you think I'm mad?"

"No, I think you are strong and courageous to leave the pressure behind for a simpler existence, even if it is only for a little while. I admire that. You are being King of your own jungle for a while." I give him a proud pout as I say it.

"What like a lion?"

"Yeah, just a like a lion." And as we both laugh at the ridiculous analogy his dimples catch my admiration again.

I direct him the journey home as he drives, totally relaxed behind the wheel. I take the advantage to study his profile as his luscious curls are tied back off his face.

His features are strong. His forehead stands broad from his hairline down to the two frown lines that furrow deep at the bridge of his nose. His eyebrows are full but neatly ordered. The curves in his eyelashes protect the emeralds beneath them. His eyes sit on two soft pillows of puffiness almost holding them up. His straight nose points proudly to its end where large nostrils cast a shadow over the prominent arches of his cupids bow, lips fanning out all pink, plump and full.

A smattering of fine hairs are cutely visible on his chin and upper lip. He clearly hasn't shaved and if he's growing a beard it isn't going to be bushy anytime soon! In contrast, the prominent angle of his jawline juts out, so strong it could cut through steel. A small brown mole sits by the corner of his mouth. His chin is small compared to the rest of his face.

He pulls up outside my house interrupting my mind's photography of his face.

"Thank you for taking care of me today and driving me home." I offer a genuine smile of appreciation. "I'll get mum to bring me over sometime in the next few days to pick up my car. Here, take my car key in case you need to move it or something."

He takes the key from my outstretched palm, lingering his fingers there a little longer than is necessary.

"It's the least I could do. Now please promise me you'll get some rest. If you need me to come and collect you to pick up your car just call me. I'll give you my number." He extends his palm and I place my phone in his hand. He taps away and passes the device back to me. I see that he's put his number in my contacts and a smile erupts across my face.

"Mick the Lion?" I laugh surprised.

He raises his eyebrows in jest, "Subtle enough?"

I rest my head back on the headrest giggling, "Yes subtle enough!" I open the door and get out. I turn to catch Harry's eyes gazing straight into mine. "I'll be seeing you Mick the Lion."

"Not if I see you first Lily Green-Fingers." He winks then flashes me a broad cheeky teeth filled smile that pulls those two dimples deep into his cheeks. I close my eyes for the briefest of seconds and suck in the sharpest of breaths before closing the door.

As he drives away leaving me standing on the pavement, I watch his car disappear from view with only one thought on my mind. He is the most beautiful caring man I have ever met.
