Confidence?

I walk into school with confidence wondering where it's coming from. Arlo? Ava? Well, whoever or whatever is giving to me should stick around. It feels nice.

My first few classes are a breeze today. I take my first step into physics for the day and take a seat whilst Arlo strides toward the the desk behind mine. Once I sit down I turn and talk to him.

"What's happening?" I ask cheerfully.

"Nothing much. Since when were you this ball of confidence?" he questions.

"This morning, I guess. I'm not really sure what sparked it, but I'm liking it."

"So am I. It's nice to see you happy."

He smiles at me one last time before returning to his seat for class to start.

I sit through the notes on electricity for the next half hour and then get to work. As I'm minding my own business doing my homework Blake decides to strut over.

"How's the freak today?" he sneers.

"Better than you, obviously," I retort.

"Oh, the little girl has gotten some confidence today, eh? We'll see how confident you are come the end of the school day."

With that he walks away. What could he have planned? I start to panic. I look down at my hands. I'm trembling. My pulse is rushing. Calm down, Gwen, calm down. No need for a panic attack in the middle of class.

My eyes start to dart around the room until they land on Arlo. He looks back at me. By look on his face I can tell that he sees the panic on mine.

I decide to go and sit at one of the lab tables in the room by myself to try and calm down a bit. I'm sitting there trying some of my breathing exercises until Arlo comes and sits across from me.

"Hey, Gwennie, are you all right?" Arlo asks with concern in his voice.

"Don't worry about it," I spit out a little too quickly.

"Gwennie, I know for a fact that something is wrong. Did Blake say something to you again?"

"Yes, but it's not important," I assure.

"If it's hurting you, then it's definitely important."

"Fine. He said that something was going to happen after school but didn't say what."

"I'll show him," I hear anger arise in Arlo's tone of voice.

"It's probably nothing," I attempt to brush it off.

"Don't act like that, Gwennie. It's definitely going to be something, or you wouldn't be so worried about it.

With that, the bell rings. I'm super anxious the whole rest of the day. When the time for the end of school comes I'm positively terrified.
