It was around midnight when Austin heard the window shatter. It sounded like it was from the kitchen. I thousand thoughts flew in and out of his head. What is happening?  Is it some animal? Is it a Burglar? Am I going to die? Where are Mom and Dad?  Austin lived in the northernmost part of Minnesota, and bears were found near people's houses a lot. Maybe it's just a bear. Austin thought. Dad will grab his shotgun and kill it or something. But the sad truth was that it was not a bear. Someone had come to their house in the middle of nowhere to rob it.

    Austin did the first thing his brain told him to do, hide under the bed. Whether it was a bear or an intruder, he would be safe under there, right?  Once again he was wrong. He heard shouting from his parent's room, and then moments later two gunshots. They weren't shotgun gunshots but pistol ones. Austin tried not to think about what might have happened as he whimpered under his bed. He heard footsteps throughout the house, but otherwise it was quiet.

   Then the door creaked open. A man stepped into his room. he walked around for a minute then got down to look under the bed. no, no, no! Austin thought. The man was wearing mainly black clothes with a red baseball cap. He had a black cloth covering most of his face.

   "Hey there kiddo, come with me now, it's alright." The man said trying to sound nice but sounding even scarier. Austin had no choice. He felt the cold head of the gun on his back as he walked outside. As he stepped out into the cold night he thought, "This is it."  " I've been kidnapped, my parents are dead, and I will never see the outside world again."
