Chapter 10

•Merida's POV•

I smiled to myself as we walked over to Dunbroch, the neighboring kingdom. It was quite beautiful with it's lush green meadows and flowing hills.

Even the forest was amazing. Though it wasn't as bright and cheerful as that of Corona.

We entered the square of the kingdom and saw all sorts of people, dressed in kilts and long dresses. "Wow, dude, ever heard of pants?" Jack chuckled next to me.

I rolled my eyes. "It's a different culture ya moron." He rolled his eyes back at me. "It was just a joke. Lighten up, frizzy."

"Why, I oughta-" I was held back by Hiccup, his hands around my waist.

"It's alright, Mer. He's really just playing. Sometimes Jack's mouth gets him in bad positions." Jack frowned then smirked at Hiccup. He looked between Hiccup and I.

"What?" I asked. "What are ye starin' at? Ain't ye ever seen a girl before?"

I watched Jack's smirk get wider. "It's nothing." I turned to Hiccup after he left. "What was that about?"

"Nothing," he quickly told me. He had gone pale and his cheeks were flushed. "Hicc, ye alright?" I asked, putting a hand on his forehead.

"I-Im fine." He quickly pushed my hand away and I shrugged. Whatever.

We all headed in separate directions to look around at the things in the market place. Punzie and Eugene went to the paints. Jack and Elsa to some dresses Elsa liked. Hiccup went to go check out some sketch materials.

Meanwhile, I stopped at a stand where an old woman was selling statues carved from wood. Most of them included bears.

"Oh, look around," the woman told me. "Ye holler if ye see anything ye like. Everything is half off."

I nodded, just about to start looking when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned, assuming it was Hiccup, but instead, I was greeted by a tall boy with long, curly, black hair.

"I'm Young Macintosh," he grinned and kissed my hand. "And you are?"

"Leaving," I hissed, turning on my heels and marching to the next booth. "Wait up!" I sighed and rolled my eyes as he appeared in front of me again. "You're very beautiful."

"Thanks, but I don' take kindly to flattery," I said.

Suddenly, another boy came up. He was tall and chubby, but slightly muscular with blonde hair. He said something I couldn't make out and looked at Macintosh. "What'd he say?"

He shrugged. "Don't know. But his name's Young McGuffin." I shook my head and sighed. "Whatever." I groaned as another boy came up to me, but he looked like he was special...if you know what I mean.

He didn't say anything. He just stood there with a dumb look on his face. "That's Wee Dingwall."

"Okay," I coughed. "I'm just gonna go." I started to walk away before I was pulled back.

"No," Young Macintosh said. "We're going to compete for your hand in marriage." Marriage?! What is wrong with these people?!

Before I knew it, I was being dragged to a shooting range for archers.

Young McGuffin went first, barely hitting the target. Bet he wishes he was tossing cabers. I chuckled to myself. Holding up bridges.

Then, Young Macintosh went. He did slightly better than McGuffin. At least he hit it a little better. That wasn't good enough for him because he completely lost it and threw his bow a good thirty yards away. Good arm. I rolled my eyes. If there's anything I can't stand, it's a sore loser.

Last went Wee Dingwall. He couldn't even get his arrow to stay lined up properly.

I almost felt bad for the wee lamb. Almost. After a while, I got frustrated and yelled, "Just shoot already!" I got wide eyes as his arrow hit the center of the target. Bullseye.

By then, Young MacGuffin was quiet, and Young Macintosh was still throwing a hissy fit.

Dingwall barely even acknowledged that he had won. Wait, why am I even here? I sighed and stood up. "Well, this was nice. But I have to go."

"Oh, no you don't," Macintosh grabbed my arm. "You're going to marry Dingwall. Rules are rules, whatever your name is."

"There's another person who'd like to compete."

I turned to see Hiccup who grinned at me. I grinned back and pulled him over. "And who are you?" Macintosh raised an eyebrow.

"Hiccup," he smiled and put his hand out to shake. Macintosh declined it, a look of disgust on his face. "Nice name," he chuckled. "Anyway, we're already finished here."

"No. Hiccup will compete," I glared at him. "Or else."

He gulped. "Welcome to the competition." I nodded and turned to Hiccup. "Do ye know anythin' about archery?"

"Nope," he grinned. "But I do have a back up plan." I raised an eyebrow with an unamused look. "Is it to run?" He coughed. "Maybe."

I rolled my eyes and pushed him towards the targets. "C'mon."

He sighed and took his best shot. The arrow landed just barely outside the middle. He lost.

"Dingwall is still the winner," Macintosh declared, MacGuffin nodding. "Hold on. There's someone else." I grabbed my arrows and walked up to the shooting area.

"At least tell us their name," Macintosh rolled his eyes.

I took a breath and glared. "I am Merida, and I'll be shootin' for my own hand." All the boys laughed, except Hiccup. "You're shooting for your own hand?"

I ignored them and pulled my arrow back and released. It hit dead center and the laughter ceased.

I moved to the second and did the same thing. They were completely speechless. When I got to the third one, it had both Hiccup and Dingwall's arrows. I took a deep breath to calm myself, then I let go.

I watched it fly through the air in what seemed like slow motion. It didn't even graze Hiccup's arrow, but it went straight through Dingwall's, splitting it completely in half. "Thank ye." I nodded at the boys and pulled Hiccup away from their confused faces.

"What was that?" Hiccup looked at me in shock. "I mean, I knew you did archery, but I didn't know you were the archery Goddess!"

I laughed. "Well, now ye know," I shrugged. "And by the way, thanks for trying ta help. That wasn't tha best situation." He smiled. "No problem, Merida."

I yelped as we rounded a corner and came face to face with Eugene. "That was quite touching, Hiccup, sticking up for your woman," he chuckled.

"His woman?" I glared raising an eyebrow. "I belong to no one."

"Oh, come on, Merida. Don't be so blind! He competed for your hand in marriage!"

"And?" I gave him a look. So what if he did. It doesn't mean anything. He was just trying to get me away from them. It's not like it was a serious competition anyways. I wasn't going to marry any of them...right?

He gave me a dumbfounded look and I stormed past him. I didn't need him interfering with my love life. Not that I had one, anyways.

•Flynn's POV•

I can't believe Merida and Hiccup are so clueless. I swear they need glasses.

"Why'd you do that, Flynn?" Hiccup asked, staring after Merida. "I'm trying to un-single you," I shrugged. "Un-single? What does that even mean?!"

"It means, I'm trying to set you up with Merida. We all know you like each other, so stop making that face at me."
Hiccup sighed and immediately dropped his angry look. "She doesn't like me, Flynn," he protested.

"Yes, she does!" I argued. "How can you not believe me?"

"How can you not believe us when we say Punzie likes you?" I groaned. Every single time with the same thing. "Why is it that you people always bring up Punz when I try to get you to admit something?"

"Because it helps keep you out of our business," he smirked. Wow. Is it a crime to be nosy now? (Haha Omg. I just said nosy...with Flynn XD Get it? Nose-y? No? Okay...)

"Alright, then. I see how it is." I started to back up, acting like I didn't care. "But remember, one day, when you're old and wrinkly and alone with thirty cats, I can say, 'I told you so.'"

He sighed and I grinned widely, knowing I'd won. Hiccup hated when I was right. Even more so when I said, 'I told you so.'

"Fine," he breathed. "You can...un-single me."

"Well, first off, be romantic, be...not Hiccup." He gave me a look like I kicked him. "What? You aren't exactly the most romantic person in the world."

"Second-"

"You know," he interrupted me. "Maybe I should just ask Jack. He has more experience seeing that he's with Elsa."

"I have experience!" I glared. "I'm a ladies man!"

"Mhmm, sure. Okay, Mr. 'Ladies Man,' why can't you ask out Rapunzel then?" He raised a questioning eyebrow and I shrunk back a little.

"Exactly," he grinned. "You have no proof, whatsoever. I rest my case."

"If I ask her out," I started. "Will you try asking Merida?" He bit his lip as he thought about it, then nodded. "I will."

We shook hands on it. Deal. No fingers crossed. "Watch and learn, Hiccster," I spun around and walked towards Rapunzel, tapping her on the shoulder.

She looked up from the art supplies to smile at me. "Hi," she shyly brushed a piece of hair behind her ear. "What's up?"

I gulped and put on my best award- winning smile, crossed my arms over my chest, and just said it. "Rapunzel, would you like to be my girlfriend?"
