Chapter 9

•Elsa's POV•

I listened to Jack yelling for me to come back, but I didn't. I continued running away from how awful I truly am.

As I ran, I remembered the awful moment that I wouldn't forget for days. For weeks maybe.

"Elsa, look!" I turned to my right, spotted a beautiful koi fish. Its scales sparkled in the moonlight.

"It's so...magical," I said, almost a whisper. I watched Jack reach out and stroke it with his hand, smiling. "Go on," he looked at me. "Touch it."

I smiled and nervously pet it with my hand. As my fingers met its smooth scales, it froze. Its now lifeless eyes stared back at me.

"Oh my God," I choked back a sob and stood up in the boat. "Elsa," Jack turned to me. "I-I have to go."

I turned and ran across the water, freezing it under me. I couldn't deal with how he would judge me for killing such a beautiful and innocent creature.

I wiped away my tears as I got to the top of the tall mountain. The snow surrounding me, I started to sing.

"The snow glows white on the mountain tonight. Not a footprint to be seen."

"A kingdom of isolation, and it looks like I'm the queen," I choked out.

"The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside. Couldn't keep it in, heaven knows I tried."

"Don't let them in, don't let them see. Be the good girl you always have to be," Mother Gothel's words she'd always told me sounded so awful now.

"Conceal. Don't feel. Don't let them know. Well, now they know!"

I grinned and let my powers out. "Let it go, let it go! Can't hold it back anymore! Let it go! Let it go! Turn away and slam the door," I sang and smiled.

"I don't care what they're going to say," I shot snow on either side of me.

"Let the storm rage on. The cold never bothered me anyway." I reached to the front of my cape and unclasped it, letting it fly away in the wind.

I marched up the hill, feeling free for the first time in my life. It felt great. Now I just have to see how far I can go.

"It's time to see what I can do. To test the limits and break through." I shot an ice staircase, completely covered in snow over a break in the mountain.

"No right, no wrong, no rules for me," I grinned and stepped onto the stairs. "I'm free!"

"Let it go! Let it go! I am one with the wind and sky! Let it go! Let it go! You'll never see me cry! Here I stand," I stomped, creating a snowflake pattern on the ground.

"And here I'll stay. Let the storm rage on." I lifted my hands up, creating tall pillars around me.

"My power flurries through the air into the ground," I swirled around, lifting frosted patterns through the walls. "My soul is spiraling in frozen fractals all around!"

"And one thought crystallizes like an icy blast," I created a beautiful snowflake chandelier that hung above me.

"I'm never going back, the past is in the past!" I stared at the hair clip Mother had given me and chucked it from my sight. No more rules, Elsa.

"Let it go! Let it go!" I ran my fingers through my hair, undoing my bun into a French braid. I started creating an ice dress from the floor up, extending both my arms for the sleeves.

"And I'll rise like the break of dawn. Let it go! Let it go! That perfect girl is gone," I voiced powerfully.

"Here I stand, in the light of day. Let the storm rage on!" I sang on the balcony.

"The cold never bothered me anyway." I turned on my heels and slammed the door behind me, shutting out my past. Time for the new Elsa.

•Jack's POV•

"We have to find her!" I yelled to the others. I helped them up onto the ice while they slid around like penguins.

"Can you move any faster?" They all glared at me, but started running anyway.

When we finally reached the edge of the lake, we looked back at the kingdom of Corona. It was covered in snow.

"C'mon guys," I pulled them up the mountain after me, clearing the snow in our way. At the top, there was a magical ice staircase that could've only been made by Elsa.

We climbed up it and stood face to face with a humongous ice castle.

"I think you guys should wait here," Rapunzel told us and Merida nodded. "No way," I protested. "It's a castle made of ice! Ice is my life! And I need to see Elsa."

"Fine," Merida pulled us inside and we looked around. So much detail.

I heard delicate footsteps and looked up at the top of the staircase. There she was. "Guys? What are you doing here?"

"Elsa," Rapunzel said. "We followed you because we love you."

"I love you too, but you have to leave," Elsa frowned down at us. "But we jus' got here," Merida protested.

"But you have to go. I don't want to hurt you." She looked ready to burst into tears. "How could you hurt us?" Flynn asked.

"My powers," she told us. "Powers?" the other boys raised an eyebrow. "Yes, Elsa has powers," I told them.

"Elsa never really showed them to me, but I've seen her ice, and this," I gestured to the castle. "This is so beautiful."

"It's beautiful, but it's also deadly. Leave me here so I can be free," she pleaded. "Please. I don't want to hurt you."

"Elsa," I started up the steps towards her. "You can't hurt me. I'm Jack Frost." She shook her head. "I can't hurt you, but I can hurt them."

"You can't hurt us, Elsa," Hiccup told her. "We know you wouldn't ever hurt us."

"I didn't mean to hurt that fish in the lake, but I did," she whispered to me. "If I did that to an innocent animal, what would I do to a person when I'm angry?"

"I can help you control it. I'll help you," I reached for her hand. "It can't be controlled, Jack. I need to be free." She pulled out of my reach.

"As long as I'm here, everyone is safe from me."

"Not really," Punzie awkwardly shifted. "You kind of set Corona into an eternal winter?" She laughed nervously.

"What?" Elsa ran her fingers through her hair. "I told you, I'm a monster. I make a mess of things everywhere I go."

"No, you don't. Look at the beautiful thing you made here, your castle," I told her. "But I froze a whole kingdom in the process!" She cried.

I gently took her hand in mine. "Elsa, you've made the most beautiful thing in the world happen. Love."

She hugged me tightly, sobbing. "It's okay, Elsa," I shushed her, wrapping my arms around her frail body. "Everything's alright."

I helped her to her feet and holding hands, we walked down the stairs. Everyone embraced her tightly and we walked out of the palace together.

As we left, I realized that there was no more snow lining the ground and the kingdom of Corona in the distance.

"Elsa, when did you get rid of the ice and snow?" Hiccup asked.

She smiled at me. "Love will thaw."
