Chapter 8

•Flynn's POV•

I chuckled as the girls looked around at the city in awe. We'd just gotten there there that morning and they were already excited.

I noticed all the citizens tripping and getting tangled in Rapunzel's hair. That might be a problem.

"Uh, we should probably do something about that." They all nodded in agreement and we looked around for a solution.

"Hey there," Jack bent down to the little girls in a braid-train formation. They all smiled up at him. "Would you mind helping my friend?"

They smiled brightly as they saw Punzie and immediately started on her hair.

I sat down by a fountain and tried to conceal my face with Jack and Hiccup.
"So," Elsa sat next to me. "Eugene."

I raised an eyebrow and smiled. "Do you have feelings for my sister?"

I choked and she giggled. "W-What? No," I looked away. "Oh," she sighed. "I guess I'll just have to break her heart and tell her then."

Break her heart? Tell her? "No!" I shouted, drawing attention to myself.

I laughed nervously. "Uh, don't hurt her feelings." Elsa put her hands on her hips. "So you're telling me to lie to my sister and tell her you do like her?"

"No, he's telling you to tell her the truth and say he loves her," Hiccup grinned and I glared at him.

"No! Don't say anything! What if she changes her mind about me or something? Have you even asked her if she likes me?"

"Well...no," Elsa admitted. "Aw," Jack chuckled. "Is Flynn Rider, thief and womanizer, nervous?"

I scoffed. "Me? Nervous? Yeah right."
"Tell her then," he challenged.

"Okay, later," I coughed. "Okay, I guess he's just nervous," Hiccup shrugged. "I am not nervous!" I yelled and marched up to Rapunzel.

She smiled. "Hey, Eugene." Holy crap, I'm nervous. "Hi, Punzie."

"The boys just wanted me to tell you that..." She raised an eyebrow. "That the Day of the Lights Festival is today," I smiled nervously.

"Oh. Okay, but I kind of already knew that Eugene. That's kind of why we're here," she giggled.

I literally almost face palmed. "Oh, well they must've forgotten that that's what we brought you here for." I rubbed the back of my neck and walked away.

"Day of the Lights Festival?" Merida snorted. "You have it bad, don' chu?" I groaned. "Not you too, Merida."

"Yes, me too," she smiled. "Oh, c'mon, it's so obvious!"

"Yes, I know I'm very obvious in my stupid attempts at romance. Thank you," I huffed.

"Not you, her!" She pointed at Rapunzel. "She's always starin' at you you know, always. Not in a creepy way, more caring."

I nodded. "Looks like she's ready." Merida stood up and I turned to Rapunzel. My jaw dropped.

Her long tresses were pulled back into a braid, and she had flowers along the pattern. She looks beautiful.

"Hey, why don't we take them to the heart of the festival? That's always more fun," Hiccup suggested, snapping me out of my daze.

I nodded and forced myself to look away from the beautiful blonde. "Sure."

The girls looked around at the festivities and listened to the cheery music. "Hm, this year seems a little dull," I commented.

"How do you mean?" Elsa turned to me. "Usually there's people dancing right about here."

Rapunzel grinned. "Maybe they're just shy." She ran into the crowd and pulled on a little boy and started to dance with him.

I laughed and watched her pull in the other villagers, and also her sisters.

"Well, aren't they just so-Ah!" I yelped as I was pulled into the dance and brought face to face with Elsa.

"Find Punzie," she ordered and pushed me to the next person.

I danced around the circle, getting closer to her, and narrowly missing her a few times.

I came face to face with Jack who grinned and spun me towards my next partner. Rapunzel.

•Rapunzel's POV•

The dance ended with Eugene and I looking at each other and panting. There's that smile.

I reluctantly pulled away and tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. "So, where to next?"

___________

Eugene and the boys rented a few boats so we could see the lights from the middle of the lake.

Jack and Elsa held hands and walked to their boat and Merida winked at me, getting into the second boat with Hiccup.

Oh, I am so going to get her back. Eugene helped me into the boat and we took off with him rowing.

"So," I started. "So," he smiled kindly. I looked away and shifted on the wooden seat uncomfortably. "Eugene,"

He turned to me and I sighed. "I'm scared." He gently took my hand in his. "Why are you scared?"

"I've been looking out a window for eighteen years, dreaming about what I might feel like when those lights are in the sky." I bit my lip.

"What if it's not everything I dreamed it would be?" "It will be."

"And, what if it is, what do I do then?" I looked at him desperately, pleading for an answer. "Well, that's the good part I guess. You get to go find a new dream."

"Look!" He pointed and I turned to the castle and saw the lanterns coming. They were even more beautiful than I imagined.

They came down like bright, moving stars in thousands, and floated back up with the grace of swans.

As I looked at the beautiful lights, I felt the urge to sing.

"All those days watching from the windows. All those years outside, looking in. All that time never even knowing just how blind I've been."

I turned and watched Merida and Hiccup on their boat, laughing and poking each other.

I couldn't help but smile. "Now I'm here, blinking in the starlight. Now I'm here, suddenly, I see. Standing here, it's all so clear I'm where I'm meant to be."

"And at last I see the light. And it's like a fog has lifted," I sang.

"And at last I see the light. And it's like the sky is new. And it's warm and real and bright, and the world has somehow shifted."

"All at once, everything looks different," I looked at Eugene. "Now that I see you."

"All those days chasing down a daydream," he sang. "All those years, living in a blur. All that time never truly seeing things, the way they were."

"Now she's here, shining in the starlight," he took my hand. "Now she's here, suddenly, I know."

"If she's here, it's crystal clear I'm where I'm meant to go," he smiled.

"And at last I see the light," our voices sounded magical together. "And it's like the fog has lifted," he pulled out two lanterns, and I smiled as we launched them into the sky.

"And at last I see the light," the lanterns circled around each other as I hit a high note. "And it's like the sky is new."

"And it's warm, and real, and bright," we harmonized. "And the world has somehow shifted. All at once, everything is different now that I see you."

We both leaned in closer and sang our last notes. "Now that I see you."

I stopped leaning in as I heard shouting. "Elsa!" It was Jack. I looked to their boat and saw Elsa fleeing across the water, freezing it as she ran.

Oh, Elsa.
