Chapter 4
It was late. Well, at least Yarnaby thought it was getting late. Harley was gone, maybe going home. That had to signal that it was late, right? Right? The creature didn't really care to be honest. He was perfectly content with walking in a circle right now. Around and around he went, where he was going nobody knew. Not even him.
There it was, the familiar creak of an opening door. Was it morning already? Was Harley back? Did he forget something? Yarnaby fondly remembered how the doctor forgot to take his lunch home with him the other day. The multicolored creature also recalled getting shocked by a taser because he ate Harley's lunch before the doctor returned for it. It was so worth it, Harley made the best sandwiches.
"Experiment 1166, it's time for your medical checkup," a man's voice piped up from behind Yarnaby. If the creature could frown, he would be frowning right now. This man didn't sound like Dr. Harley Sawyer. Turning around, he found himself face to face with a younger man with brilliant blue eyes and wavy brown hair. This was definitely not Dr. Harley Sawyer. Where was his friend? No one else ever visited Yarnaby unless Harley was with them. His head splitting open without warning, the multicolored creature hissed.
"1166, there is absolutely no need for that. It's a simple checkup, just like any doctor appointment your mom or dad would take you to," the man pointed out nonchalantly. He took a step forward. Bad idea. Arching his back, Yarnaby hissed and spat angrily. He didn't know this man, this was a stranger. And while he couldn't recall anything from his previous life, the creature felt like it was common sense to avoid strangers. Stranger danger. Heh, that rhymed.
"I don't have time for this. You are going to that appointment whether you like it or not 1166!" the man yelled in an exasperated tone. He pulled out a taser. That was all it took. Letting out this weird sound that was a mix between a roar and a screech, Yarnaby launched himself at the man with open jaws. Something hit the inside of his mouth so he closed it. He was greeted by the taste of warm blood and flesh. It tasted wonderful. Backing away, Yarnaby no longer saw the man. The only thing left were a pair of legs no longer attached to a body. A taser laid nearby, no longer holding any kind of threat.
There were shouts in the distance and they were getting closer. More people presumably. They sounded pretty angry. Taking a seat on the tile floor, Yarnaby absentmindedly pawed at one of the legs. He wondered where the man had gone and where these legs came from. Legs don't just magically fall out of the sky, or rather the ceiling since he was inside. Eh, who cares? Yarnaby had managed to get one of the shoes off of the legs. He batted that around, finding great enjoyment in the activity. This was so much fun.
The fun didn't last much longer though when the first tranquilizer dart was fired...
