Chapter 5
Many hours had passed. That's what Yarnaby thought anyway. He had no way of telling time. He could honestly care less about everything else. He was in too much pain to worry about anything else. There were bruises and burns all over his body from tasers and tranquilizer darts and one determined guy with a crowbar. His mouth hurt too from biting anything he could get in his jaws. One tooth in particular was sending his pain receptors through the roof. Whining softly from where he laid on his side on the floor, Yarnaby curled up into a tight ball.
The door opened, followed by quick footsteps. Yarnaby didn't turn to look, he didn't want to see anyone. And he definitely did not want to go through another beating like the one from last night. Terrified at the thought, the creature whined and covered his head with his paws. At that moment, whoever had entered the room spoke in an all too familiar voice, "What did those bastards do to you Yarnaby?"
Harley! Harley was back! Yarnaby's head shot up. He immediately regretted doing that when his body screamed in agony. Whining, the multicolored creature laid his head back down. He looked up as Harley came into his line of sight. The man seemed angry. Yarnaby hoped his friend wasn't mad at him. Wheezing softly, the creature feebly pawed at the air. Watching this, Harley sighed heavily and grumbled, "Alright boy, let me see what I can do for you."
Once again, Yarnaby wasn't sure how much time was flying by. But those minutes were ticking away. In the meantime, Harley was diligently dressing each wound he had. Little band aids were plastered on cuts. Cream was rubbed into burns. The bruises were checked out of fear there might be an injury beneath the discolored skin. Last but not least, Harley had Yarnaby open his mouth. The multicolored creature couldn't see what his friend was doing but he was pretty sure the doctor was doing something with his tooth. After a while, he was finally allowed to shut his mouth.
"Not much I can do for that tooth I'm afraid," Harley muttered as he stood up. The man tugged the plastic gloves he wore off of his hands as he hissed through clenched teeth, "If I ever find out who did that, I'm gonna make them pay with their life!" The doctor slammed his hands down on his desk, causing Yarnaby to jump with fright. Harley was mad again. Slowly heaving himself up to his feet, the multicolored creature cautiously approached his friend and bumped his head against the man's leg. Once he got Harley's attention, Yarnaby met his gaze and whimpered softly.
"Oh Yarnaby..." Harley murmured, pinching his forehead. Taking a seat next to the human, Yarnaby leaned against his leg as he whimpered again. Kneeling down beside the creature, the doctor remarked, "You must have shown me great loyalty last night. From what I heard, you attacked every person you saw. Yet here I am unscathed and in your presence. You are growing more useful with each passing day." Yarnaby was unsure of what was being said to him but he liked hearing Harley talk so he nuzzled his friend's leg and purred softly. Harley was a good person, he would protect him at all costs.
