The Flash x Reader

The Flash X Reader

Things are not looking great.

You tried to stop the shaking of your hands as you walked down the street, heading towards Jitters to meet up with Barry. You were trying to decide whether or not you should tell one of your best friends one of your biggest secrets.

He shouldn't have to deal with it, he just got out of a coma a few weeks ago. You thought. He probably wouldn't care anyway, it's my burden.

But he's spending a lot of time at S.T.A.R. Labs lately. Maybe he can help me figure out what's going on with me.

You were brought back from your inner battle as you walked into Jitters and saw Barry Allen sitting at a table with two cups of coffee and pastries.

"Your favorite." He told you, pushing a pastry and your coffee towards you.

"Thanks, Barry." You said, sitting down across from him. The two of you talked for a few minutes before Barry's phone started to ring. He apologized before answering the phone.

"Yeah?

...

Okay, where?

...

(Sigh) I'll be there." He said to the person on the phone before giving you an apologetic gaze. You nodded in understanding.

"Work I assume?" You asked, making him nod.

"I'm sorry. I'll make it up to you!" He said, grabbing his stuff and rushing out the door.

"Yeah, you always say that, Barry Allen." You said to yourself.

-

The next time you saw Barry was at the police station. You had gone there to meet up with Joe, as you had planned to have lunch with him. Growing up with Iris and Barry as your best friends, Joe was like an uncle to you.

You were about to text Joe when you and Barry ran into each other, literally. You almost fell over, but he grabbed your arms before you could.

"Sorry, Barry. Um, do you know where Joe is? We were supposed to go to lunch." You asked him.

"Uh- no. I'm mean, yes. He's not here. There was a bank robbery, I gotta go- I'll text you later!" He said, rushing out of the building.

You were fed up with being brushed off so easily all of the time, so you followed your friend. You found him in an alleyway, but you did not expect what you saw. Barry was... vibrating? You didn't know, he was moving so fast you couldn't see him. But when he stopped, a red suit donned his body. He sped off in the blink of an eye, leaving you shocked.

Barry... is The Streak?

A few hours later, you decided to meet up with the two people who you figured knew about Barry's hero life: Cisco and Caitlin. You were friends with them, through Barry, but still close. You asked them to come to your apartment to hang out, which they agreed to do that night.

You walked over to the door as you heard the light knocking, alerting you that your friends had arrived.

"Hey Y-WOAH!" Cisco exclaimed as you pulled him into your apartment. You led the two to your living room and sat on a chair as they sat on the couch.

"Okay. I have to ask you guys something. I assume that you guys know because you've been helping Barry out since he woke up from his coma." You said, making their attention be on you fully. "Okay, I saw something really insane today. I bumped into Barry at the police station and he was acting really weird, so I followed him out to an alleyway and I saw him, like, vibrating? I guess. I don't really know, but he was moving so fast, and then all of a sudden he was in a red suit, and the next second he was gone. Guys... is Barry The Streak?" You asked.

"He prefers the name The Flash." Cisco said, only to be hit on the back of the head by Caitlin.

"Yes, okay. He is The Flash. He was affected by the particle accelerator explosion, along with a lot of other people." Caitlin told you. "Y/N, you can't tell anyone."

"Okay, I may not be a doctor or a tech wiz like guys , but I'm not that stupid. I know not to tell anyone." You said.

"Is that all you needed us for? I thought we were gonna order pizza!" Cisco said, whining a small amount.

"Actually, no. Uh, now that I know you guys know about Barry, I need to show you something." You said nervously. Quickly, you ordered a pizza to make Cisco happy. "Okay, promise me you won't freak out." You said, making them look at you in confusion, before both of them nodded.

"Alright, look at the clock." You told them, standing behind the two on the couch and placing your hands on their shoulders. They both looked at the clock as you said, and you focused all of your energy on time.

You stopped and took your hands off of them when you heard the doorbell ring. You quickly picked up the money from the table and answered the door, paying the guys and taking the pizzas before returning to your friends.

"Okay, that all just happened in like, ten seconds." Cisco said in shock.

"I knew that others had been affected by the particle accelerator. I'm one of them." You told them. "You guys aren't gonna, like, lock me up, are you?"

"Do we have a reason to?" Cisco asked, making him get hit again by Caitlin.

"No, we would never lock you up, Y/N. Thank you for telling us about being a metahuman." Caitlin told you.

"So, what are your powers?" Cisco asked, leaning over and opening a pizza box, taking a slice.

"Uh- time manipulation. I can control time, whether that be speeding it up or slowing it down." You explained.

"You should come back to S.T.A.R. Labs with us. We can run some tests and discover the full range of your powers." Caitlin said.

"Thanks for the offer, but no thanks. I don't need tests run on me. I've got this under control." You assured them. They were hesitant to accept your answer, but soon enough all was forgotten as you sat catching up with your friends, enjoying a night in. It wasn't until they were about to leave that you brought the seriousness back.

"Can we not tell Barry about any of this? That I know about him... About my powers..." You asked them.

"You're gonna have to tell him sooner or later." Cisco said.

"I know. I will." You said. "Just hopefully, it'll be later." You said quietly.

"We'll keep your secret, Y/N." Caitlin told you, making you sigh in relief.

"Thank you. And thank you guys for coming here tonight." You told them smiling as you showed them out.

-

It wasn't until a few days later that you really regretted not taking Caitlin and Cisco's offer to help you at S.T.A.R. Labs. Yesterday you sped up time by an hour and you didn't even mean to. And now, walking down the busy streets of Central City, with people constantly bumping into you and shoving you around, you really wished you had more control.

"Stop." You muttered as yet another person shoved past you.

You heard a shriek from in front of you, and the sound of shattering glass. Then, you were almost trampled as people ran in the opposite direction of you, trying to get away from the criminal robbing a jewelry store.

"Stop, stop, STOP!" You exclaimed, shutting your eyes tightly.

And everything did. The sound stopped, and you opened your eyes to look around. People frozen like statues, glass still flying through the air from the broken window. Your eyes widened.

"I stopped time..." You spoke to no one. You quickly moved out of the frozen crowd that surrounded you, moving away from the broken window and the criminal. You eventually did get out of the crowd, but a sound startled you.

"Hello?! Anyone?!" You heard a voice from the distance. There's only one person who could have been moving fast enough to not be effected by my powers.

"Flash?!" You yelled at the top of your lungs, seeing a red streak run past you a second later. "HEY!" He quickly turned around and rushed back over to you, but stayed a distance from you, blurring his face and disguising his voice.

"Do you know what is going on?" He asked.

"Yes, and I'll tell you. But, you need to get us away from here. From what I can tell, they can still hear." You told him. He quickly picked you up and sped away, stopping at the city limits sign. He put you down and backed away a bit, but you grabbed his arm.

"Barry, I know it's you." You told him, making him stop blurring his face. He pulled his mask off, looking at you intensely.

"Y/N-" he started, but you cut him off.

"I've known since that day at the police station. I followed you out back into that alley and saw you... I'm sorry." You told him.

"It's fine." He said. You sighed and looked up at him.

"I did this, Barry." You told him.

"You?" He questioned.

"Yeah. I - ever since the particle accelerator explosion happened, I've had the power to control time." You explained. "I thought I had it under control, but I obviously don't." You said, motioning to the still world around you.

"Y/N." He said, placing a hand on your shoulder. "Can you fix it?" He asked.

"I don't know! If I knew, I would have fixed it by now." You told him.

All of a sudden, it felt like someone hit you with a building. Your head pounded as you held it in your hands.

"Ah!" You screeched as the feeling only got worse.

"Y/N!" Barry exclaimed, putting his arms around you.

"Barry, it hurts!" You grit out. He moved one of his hands to your head and one around your back, holding you tight. Your knees buckled from underneath you, and Barry brought the both of you down to your knees.

"Make it stop..." You mumbled into his chest.

"I've got you." He told you, and that was the last thing you heard before you passed out.

-

Your vision was blurred when you first opened your eyes, but once it cleared, you jumped awake.

"Woah, woah, woah. Calm down. You're alright." A voice said from near you. You looked over and saw Cisco standing near you, checking your vitals on a screen.

"Where am I?" You asked him.

"S.T.A.R. Labs." He answered. You sat up and looked around the cortex.

"Where's Barry?" You questioned.

"He had to go somewhere with Iris. He'll be back later." Caitlin said from one of the computers.

"Okay..." You said disappointed. "What happened to me?"

"From what Barry told us, you stopped time. He wasn't effected by your powers because he was running. He brought you out to the edge of the city. He said that you started feeling really bad and passed out. And when you did, time started moving again." Cisco told you.

"Really?" You asked, shocked.

"I guess... You just had to let go." He added.

"Yeah... I guess so."

Around ten minutes later Barry sped into the Cortex, grabbing onto one of the desks for support so he wouldn't fall over.

"Barry!" You called out, rushing over to him to make sure he's okay.

"Bring him over here." You heard Caitlin say, and you put Barry's arm around your shoulders to support him walking over to the bed you were laying on a few minutes ago.

"Barry-" Caitlin started, but was cut off.

"I didn't eat enough. I just got a little dizzy, I'm fine." Barry told her standing up, only for vertigo to make him sit back down.

"Woah, Barry, take it easy." You muttered, making him look up to you.

"Guys, can you give us a minute?" He asked Caitlin and Cisco, still staring at you. Your two friends left the room and you looked at Barry. He patted the spot next to him, wanting you to sit there, which you did. Neither of you looked at each other.

"I'm sorry." You spoke, making him look at you. "I should have told you that I have powers, and that I don't have control over them. If you hadn't been running, I could've been in a lot of trouble."

"I guess I should say the same thing. I should have told you about this-"

"You have your reasons, Barry." You said. "I had so many opportunities where I wanted to tell you, like at Jitters a few days ago. I wanted to, I was just too scared."

"It's okay. We're gonna help you control your powers, Y/N." He said, placing his hand on yours. And you felt it, heard it. The clock started ticking slower. You quickly brought your hand away from Barry's, making him look at you confused. But time had gone back to normal.

"I-I gotta go." You told him, turning and rushing out of the cortex with him calling your name.

-

For two weeks you've been avoiding one Mr. Barry Allen. That meant avoiding Jitters, the Police Station, any crime scene that happened in the city, and Iris and Joe.

You pulled your jacket tightly around you as you walked down the street in the January air. All was perfectly fine... Until you saw the red blur and yellow lightning that followed zoom past you. He stopped down the street, outside a bank. He sped in, but was quickly thrown back out and hit a wall, smashing the window and making everyone around scream and run in the opposite direction. But you... You ran towards it, towards him. You saw Grodd walk out of the bank, weirdly. Guess he needs money for something?

He sauntered over to where Barry was disoriented on the ground, holding his head. Barry slowly stood up and... No, he just stood in front of the gorilla, not doing anything. Your eyes widened as you realized that Grodd must be controlling Barry, as the gorilla put his hands up, ready to smash Barry into the ground.

"No!" You screamed, holding your hands out and squeezing your eyes shut. Work, work, please, work.

Time stopped, you noticed as you opened your eyes, seeing everything still. You didn't know how long you could hold time still, so you hurriedly ran towards the Scarlet Speedster. You put your hand over the emblem on his chest and and felt a small amount of energy leave you as Barry started breathing again. He looked at you with wide eyes and placed a hand over yours on his chest.

"You have to get out of here, I don't know how long I can hold this." You told him, and he nodded. He picked you up and started running. You buried your head in his shoulder, clinging to him as you let go of your grip on the world. You soon felt the strong winds stop forcing themselves against you.

You pulled your face away from Barry's neck and looked into his eyes.

"Hey." You said quietly.

"Thank you." He said, putting you down. You looked around and saw Central City in the distance, but nothing else but trees and hills around.

"For what? I didn't do anything special." You said, not looking at him.

"You just saved my life, Y/N." He said, lightly putting his hand on your shoulder. You quickly shrugged him off, moving away from him frantically, remembering what happened last time he touched you. He took his mask off. "Hey...What's wrong, you okay?"

"Don't touch me!" You told him.

"Y/N, you've been avoiding me for the past two weeks. What did I do wrong?" He asked, moving closer to you once again.

"You didn't do anything wrong! It's me! I can't touch you, Barry! No matter how much I want to, I can't!" You yelled, turning towards him again. He stopped coming towards you and stared at you. You sighed, turning away from him and looking at the city in the distance. "I don't have my powers under control, Barry. The reason time stopped two weeks ago was because of me, and when you touched me after... Time slowed down. I felt it." You told him, looking at your hands. "I can't have that happen again. This power.... Me. It's dangerous, making me dangerous. I can't..." You trailed off.

"Y/N..." You heard Barry say from right behind you. "We can help-"

"No you can't, Barry!" You yelled, turning to him. "You don't have any experience in this! How could you help me when I can't even help-"

You were cut off as Barry placed his hand on the back of your neck and pulled you forward to meet his lips. Although he caught you off guard, this was... Nice. You slowly moved your hand up to his cheek as you both moved your lips against each other's.

"... myself." You finished, pulling away from him.

"Did time stop that time?" Barry asked, smirking. You looked down at the ground, avoiding eyes contact with him.

"Not that I know..." You muttered. You felt his arms tighten around your waist, making you look at him.

"I'm here for you, no matter what." He whispered. "Let's go back to the lab." He added, putting his arms around your back for you to jump up into them. You did and he held you bridal style. You looked up at him and pulled his mask over his face, making him smile. "You ready?" He asked, making you tuck your head into his neck and pull your arms around his neck. You nodded, and the familiar feeling of wind flying past you was felt again.

It stopped a few seconds later and you were put down on the hospital bed in the infirmary. Barry stood in front of you, smiling. You smiled back at him, grabbing the front of his suit and pulling him down to meet you. You kissed him again, feeling him put a gloved hand on your cheek. You kept one hand holding his suit but put the other up to his mask. You heard footsteps quietly walk to the cortex but decided to ignore them.

"Woah... Didn't mean to interrupt, sorry! I'll come back later!" Cisco exclaimed, running out of the cortex once he saw you two.

You pulled away from Barry, pulling his mask off of him and resting your forehead against his, looking in his eyes.

"I've always wanted to kiss The Flash." You said quietly, making him chuckle.

"Well, you just did babe." He said, backing away from your face a little and staring at you. "Y/N?"

"Mm?" You hummed, making him smirk.

"You wanna touch me?" He asked smugly, making your eyes widen.

"W-what?" You stuttered out, making him laugh and put a hand on your waist.

"Earlier, you said 'I can't touch you, no matter how much I want to.' Is that true?" He smirked.

"Barry, I-" you tried to give him an excuse, but he squeezed your side lightly, making you stop and sigh, dropping your gaze from his eyes. "Maybe..."

"Hey, look at me." Barry said quietly, making you do just that. "Go on a date with me?" He asked, catching you off guard.

"What?"

"You. Me. Dinner, tomorrow night?" He asked.

"Okay... Yeah, that sounds... Great." You told him.

Maybe things aren't as bad as they seem.
