"Well done Mis Lewis, I was very impressed, however we will need you to attend another training session before we make our decision. If it was up to me, I would be playing you in the first game." Coach Louise said, while her eyes were focussed on the iPad held in her hands. I guessed one trail wasn't enough. At least I've had one decent one already.
"Thank you so much. It was a pleasure to train with the girls and I would be so honoured to play for this wonderful club,"I said. And I meant every word I said. It has been a dream from a young age.
"Good to hear Mis Lewis. And next training session is Tomorrow, same time."she said, and walked off.
My muscles were throbbing while I felt a sharp pain continuously trigger in my head every few seconds. The expectations at Arsenal are very high, as I worked harder than I had ever in my whole life. I'm sure it is something that I'll get used too. Just like the continuous body aches after every training or game.
As I strolled back into the change rooms, my mind continuously wondered back to my family. I wonder where they are at, what they are doing, and if I will ever see them again. I understand that mum had to leave, but it's not fair on me because I have the right to know them. If I save enough money, than I will travel back to Guernsey. Which reminds me, I haven't finished my university assignment That I was working on, whilst travelling over here on the plane.
Abandoning my thoughts, they door swings wide open, denying me the chance to open it myself. Leah confidently walks out of the door, offering me a smile. I return one and continue through the doors of the change room.
All of the girls attention converts to me as I pace over to the showers. The majority of them send a smile my way, while Dani gestures a thumbs up. I flash a quick smile in return as I need to clean up before I meet with Mesut.
Once I feel clean and smell as decent as you can after showering in a change room, I stop the running water that was moments ago easing the pain as it dribbled down my legs. Stepping out of the shower, I check my fit bit and gather there is little time to spare, as Mesut should be finishing training as well.
I trapped warmth around my body as I put on my tracksuit pants, nike air runners, a plain grey shirt and my Nike hoodie. bidding my goodbyes to the remaining girls, I made my way out of the change rooms and recall how Mesut showed me to get here, I seemed to find my way out, as I see Mesut leaning against his Ferrari, which was ever so faintly shimmering as the London sun reflected off it.
Mesut hadn't yet seen me because his head was in his phone. Evidently texting someone as his hands moved in sync typing on the keyboard that was hidden from me, behind his screen.
"Hope I didn't keep you waiting for too long," I nervously came out with.
His body flinched as his head jolted away from his phone. He stared at me for a few too many seconds to make it awkward, as I just glared at him waiting for him to speak.
He fiddled with his fingers, trying to formulate a reply. And once he did, his body released.
"No, we only just finished our selves," he said. His soft German accent was more noticeable as he said these words.
I was quick to reply as I was a lot less nervous than he was.
"Ok, that's good then, shall we go get coffee?" I asked. Mesut was a lot more prepared to answer the question this time, as his focus was now completely on me.
"Yeah, Do you want a ride? he replied, followed buy the question.
"Yes please, if you wouldn't mind," I said.
"Of course not. That's why I offered." He chuckled. I then walked about 5 metres to his car that I envy. On his way to the drivers seat, Mesut opened the passanger door for me, then he attended to himself. I quietly thanked him, and he just smiled.
Mesut said the trip to Starbucks wasn't that far. Maybe 10 minutes down the road. But at 3pm there were people coming home from school, so there might be traffic along the way.
It was a quick drive down the road, as we were now there. Mesut and I made conversation about the club. He asked how training was, so I told him about the comments that coach Lou had said. However I also told him that I am yet to have another trial.
Mesut walked to a table for two and pulled a chair out for me. I gestured a small thank you and sat down. It was the middle of winter in London at the moment and I felt like a warm drink. My eyes scan across the menu board at the counter. I choose a simple signature hot chocolate. I approach to ask Mesut what he wants. But before a word escapes my mouth, Mesut speaks up.
"What would you like to have, I'll pay." He insists.
"Oh... thank you. Just a signature hot chocolate please." I request.
"No problem" he replies and leaves the table, unaware that he left his phone behind. Just as I glance up to Mesut to see if he is nearly done, his phone lights up with a text.
Mandy: Hey, you still up for Wednesday?
Mandy Capristo, his ex girlfriend? I thought he wasn't with Mandy anymore. Must have it wrong. But I can't be mad right? He thinks of me as a friend, so I can't be angry.
Just as I was about to take my phone out and text my mum to pass time, I see Mesut coming back. I decide I'll text her later.
Mesut was carrying our orders which were, my signature hot chocolate and a mango, Passionfruit frappuccino for Mesut.
Mesut hands me my drink, then once again, sits back down on the seat. Only just now since he has sat down, do I realise that he has a brown paper bag in his left hand. He is aware that I have noticed it, so he reaches his hand inside to pull out what ever was in there. I'm presuming some sort of food. When Mesuts hand has come out of the bag, he reveals a large blueberry muffin.
"Whether you wanted it or not, I thought I'd get us this to share. Blueberry muffins are my favourite." He spoke.
"Thank you Mesut, I love blueberry muffins too," I smiled
About half way through demolishing my half of the blueberry muffin, Mesut breaks the silence.
"Tell me a bit about yourself," Mesut said. A bit out of the blue. I think he realised how broad his question was, so he continued. "Like, what are your hobbies, where are you from, age, full name, stuff like that."
"Oh um... my full name is Alana Rose Lewis, I'm 23 years old, and I'm from Guernsey. I love to play football. I have been playing since I was four." I choked out the last few words as I was a bit nervous.
Mesut seemed confused half way through my statement. He opened his mouth to say something, then closed it again.
"Mesut are you alright?" I asked, concerned.
"Yeah I'm fine. Hey I was just wondering, if your from Guernsey, why did you fly over from Australia." He asked quite curiously.
"Mesut I think that's enough questions for today" I said. His facial expressions dropped dramatically, followed by a look of guilt.
"It's getting late, I think I should get back to my hotel but I really enjoyed my time with you."I said.
"yeah sure I'll drive you home." he said
"And be sure to let me know as soon as you know, if you got in."
"Of course yeah," I agreed. "Oh, and if I'm gonna tell you, I will need your number" I stated, trying not to sound to flirty as he had a girlfriend. Well... I'm guessing.
