Chapter Five: The Memory

The Lycanroc ushered them into a separate part of the cave, indicating for them to sit down in a chair. She ran over to a Boulder, pushing it in front of the door.

She hurriedly reached for a medical kit in her cave.

"I never thought I would have to use this kit on a Litten. I haven't used this baby in a while. Give me a second." She woofed, sitting on her tail as she dug through her items within the medical kit.

The Lycanroc pulled out a bloodied cloth from the mix of items.

The instant it was brought into the little light of the cave, Barium gagged.

"Who's was that?" Jab questions, eyes widened in curiosity. His eyes still held a little laughter in them, but he was trying to act serious and tough.

It wasn't working.

He just burst into laughter after the question.

"Curious, Jab. You laugh no matter what happens and no matter what I showed. I could show you a dead Pikachu's head on a stake and you would still laugh. I don't understand you, man." The Lycanroc woofed.

Barium was curious. Was this Prism?

She seems...friendly enough, but how can such a Pokémon as a Dusk Lycanroc study the sun? And what does studying the sun help us find it? Barium wonders.

Lycanroc's paw gripped something and she held out a paw before bringing it back in.

"Give me Litten. Or does she have a different name? Now that I think of it I want to know what your Tepig friend's name is too. Why don't you introduce me to them. I'm sure you told them of me, am I correct? I would ask more questions, but I know too many questions can overload one mon's mind." Lycanroc commented.

Lunala slowly brought Radon over to the Lycanroc, placing her gently on the floor.

Barium turned his gaze towards the friendly floor once Lunala dropped his friend.

I hope she's okay....I'm probably worrying too much, but that rock was huge!

Barium's lip quivered a bit.

"Yes, you've read me like a book, Prism. I have told them of you. The Litten is Radon, and the Tepig is Barium." Lunala simply informed Prism as the dusk form nodded only.

Prism turned Radon over, checking her for more wounds.

"It's only the one on her head." Barium informed, seeing the wolf pokemon investigate over Radon within his peripheral vision.

Prism turned her calm gaze toward's Barium.

Her gaze held frustration.

"I know that, Barium." She woofed, using his new name. "I'm just making sure the rock didn't inflict damage anywhere else. The head injury may be the only injury, but I must check anyways. Man, you made friends with such a...curious Tepig." She remarked.

Barium didn't know what that meant, but he was sure it meant anything but special.

He knew he was never one of the more popular starters. He was always overshadowed for Pokémon like Shikuri or Marashi.

Shikuri was a male Chikorita who was known for his over impressive power. Despite being a Chikorita—they're known for being bad starters— he has been known to deal with and capture fire and flying type villains despite the weaknesses to them. He's decent at capturing at Ice Types too, but he cannot tank Ice types as well as fire or flying.

Marashi was Shikuri's partner, and an Cyndaquil. When Shikiru couldn't handle the ice types, Marashi was there to melt them. Her flames are so powerful they can burn through rock type Pokémon with ease. And water type Pokémon evaporated within the sight of her.

It was an exaggeration, but those two really were one of the more skilled teams.

No one would ever pay any attention or give him any positive feedback when those two were around.

Compared to them I am nothing. I am weak, and a scardey-chu. I'm afraid of everything and of every Pokémon. I'm only here now because this is my mission, and Radon is my partner. Without her I am nothing. Without her I wouldn't have fought Lunala or Jab or anyone.

Usually around the squad he would do small chores. He was born in a farm, so he wasn't very strong to begin with.

He barely did any training and he would run away from anything and everything.

He remembered from his past in the farm his parents were served as food almost as soon as they made a ton of eggs for the owners.

The owners weren't nice.

They abused every Pokémon even if they were a baby.

Barium shivered.

He remembered the anger and redness in the eyes of the blond male when he beat the only motherly figure Barium had: Miltank.

Miltank was always so nice and gentle with me. Barium pondered, trying to keep in the tears. I wonder how she's doing. Hope she's not being beaten by the Master or worse....

Barium shook the thought out of his head, trying to remember the good times.

He had made a couple of really good friends there, and even possibly made a best friend for life.

Besides Miltank he could always count on a Torchic. He couldn't remember her name, but he remembered falling in love with her. She didn't feel the same, and harshly rejected him. She called him a weak crybaby.

Which was accurate.

The Torchic was the one who suggested they'd take the risk and run away.

Miltank covered for them, sheltering them when the owners realized what was occurring.

...

"Barium! Hey, Barium! Wake up!" A birdly voice whispered in a younger Barium's ears.

Tired, Barium lifted his head to gaze at the incredibly strong Torchic.

"What is it, Gallium?" He asked, blearily blinking to wake himself up.

His snout opened up in a yawn, and his tongue poked out.

The Torchic's dark brown gaze turned excited.

"Remember? The plan? We need to get out of this shit hole as soon as possible! Those humans are brutal and don't value our lives as Pokémon. Unlike other humans! Come on, we must hurry. No time to wake up, Barium! Hurry up!" Gallium exclaimed.

Barium sprung to his trotters.

He put one to her mouth as he clumsily slumped over on his butt. His curly tail more curled upon hearing her shouts.

"Shh," he told her, trying to quiet the young Torchic. She was about his age. They were about six years old.

"The farmers will hear us." He shushed.

The Torchic rolled her eyes.

"Oh I'm sure they could hear me." Gallium sarcastically retorted. "They're asleep in the house, Barium. Don't you dare worry like that. We've planned this out so far. They killed both of our parents! We have every right to leave. They abused us, lashed out at us; they've abused every Pokemon in this farm! They only use us to breed and then kill us off once we make a couple of eggs they like. Who cares if we're loud now?" Gallium huffed.

Barium turned his gaze towards the inside the wooden shelter.

"I do," he mumbled, feeling fear build up in his chest. "I just don't want to lose you. You're one of my friends, and I don't want Miltank to get in trouble."

Gallium lifted a talon foot and lightly put her claws on him, trying to balance on one foot. She just managed.

"I understand, Barium. You have a very good heart. Unlike me. I have a pretty insane heart, but I promise you even if those stupid humans hear us we're way stronger. We're fire types, and starters! We can beat them up if they try to catch us!" Gallium bragged.

"You're the only strong one between the two of us, Gallium. I'm only level two. They have a very strong shiny Vaporeon. And we're both weak to water. Please can't we just stay quiet? It will be far more simpler." Barium begged, his legs quivering.

Gallium sighed as her talon returned to the floor.

She gazed at him with fondness that a best friend would give their closest friend.

"Yes, of course Barium. You're right. I'm sorry. I'm a little too rash. I forgot about that dumb Vaporeon." Gallium remarked, her feathers ruffling a little in intimidation.

The two poked their heads out.

In the yard where the stockades held up, a middle aged purple Vaporeon was napping. Her tail was wrapped around her plump body.

She had definitely been fed plenty. Probably one of Miltank's friends.

Milktank had been spared of being a hamburger or cheeseburger because she was a blue Miltank.

Shinies around the farm were far more valuable to the humans to keep alive than the normal Pokémon in the pens.

An old Combusken had never been chosen to be eaten because he was shiny and the farmers also owned a shiny Arcanine who was lazy in the house.

They allowed Vaporeon to go where she pleased. She preferred the outside.

They asked her to stop any Pokémon from running away from fate.

But today's the day, Barium thought as he glanced towards Gallium.

The Torchic nodded.

The two begun to sneak around.

It was dark, and cold. Barium didn't know if he was trotting o the grass or if he was in soft mud.

He could barely see, putting one hoof in front of the others.

He gulped. He really didn't want the Vaporeon to wake up.

This wasn't the first time a Pokémon tried to sneak out because of the conditions.

This was the fourth attempt.

Each time a Pokémon tried they tried to escape either alone and failed or escaped in a big group. Actually, either way they were caught.

Barium didn't know if this was the best idea, but he knew he was tired of being bullied by the shiny Vaporeon and Arcanine.

A possible escape was better than being stuck in this bad farm forever. He was shocked that there was no farm control or something.

Maybe there was, but these humans always pretended to be nice around the other humans it was shocking they could be mean to Barium and all the others.

Gallium accidentally stepped on someone's tail.

A white Eevee yelped loudly, shooting upwards.

Anger showed on his face as he turned to glare at them, but the anger was immediately replaced with shock.

"Gallium? Barium?" The Shiny Eevee whispered as he squinted at them. "Where are you off to? Are you...running away?"

Neither of them said anything because before they could speak another word the Vaporeon started barking at them.

They ran away from the shiny Eevee as the purple Vaporeon started to chase them.

"Hey! Get back in your cages you worthless barnyard Pokémon! I will wake up the human if you don't run to your cages right now!" The Vaporeon barked, catching up to them swiftly with Quick Attack.

"What is going on?!" A loud roaring boom shouted and the door to the house of the farmers opened and a male human poked his head out.

"What?! You stupid starter Pokémon! Get back here!" The man shouted as a different head poked out.

A small Caucasian boy around the age of nine stared with awe at the Pokémon as they ran around the yard, trying to find an opening.

"I'm going to get my gun." The man said.

The boy walked outside.

"Wow! You're so fast Tepig!" The boy cheered, his dark brown eyes sparkling with wonder.

Not long afterwards, the man came out, gun cocked and aimed at Barium and Gallium.

Before he could shoot a blue blur rammed into him, knocking the gun out of his grip. The man fell, and Barium and Gallium managed to crawl their way through the fence.

Barium was ruffled.

"Come on! Before they start chasing us past the gate!"

The two then continued on their way.

Barium could hear some shouting and a loud bang and scream.

The scream echoed.

...

Barium blinked, realizing he was sitting down and that everyone except Radon—she was still unconscious—was staring at him with concern.

"Hey, what's up, pal?" Jab inquired.

Well it's been forever since I updated this. Seems familiar, but I am seriously going to try to get back into this hopefully sometime soon. Anyways I decided to show you more than what I've been. I've been basically vague with everything, and some of my Characters seem to go along with everything a bit too much. But anyways I hope you enjoy and do tell me your thoughts on the chapter and tell me what you think Barium's past has to do with how he acts in the present. Well the past that's the present right now. Lol. Thanks so much for over 400 reads and I hope to have more for you guys sometime soon!
