Dipper's POV

I read through the book as the light of my candle's flame flickered. My sister was sound asleep in the other room, she was the morning person while I was the night owl. I finished most of the Royal Library ages ago while I studied with twilight, but Luna's projects were fun. She had me help her interpret people's dreams and decide how to help them by creating them. It was hard work but it did help us out. She paid me for ever extra dream I helped repair, since Mabel was the one with the actual job. I sometimes gave her a little extra joy at night for helping me deal with reality. I never really like the day since the Sun shone too bright for me to do anything, but the moon gave the perfect lighting for study sessions or magic practice. I was honored we when the two princesses chose their students and the princess of the night chose me. I have been her faithful student ever since. I am friends with Twilight but since she's awake during the day I don't see her often. She's been practicing the "magic of friendship" or something dumb like that. I say it's a waste of time and talent, she could do so much more. I guess I can't complain though since me and Mabel are better together. Actually I don't think either of us could make it through that rough world without a helping hoof. I heard the sound of crickets chirping and stopped writing in my diary for a moment. The cool Summer breeze blew through the window and it extinguished the candle. That then took my focus away from the light and towards the glorious night. The stars gleamed in their positions in the sky, and I saw the big Dipper in the sky. I have a few white spots of fur on my forehead that form the same constellation. That's how my parents named me after they named Mabel, though they gave us the same last name. I then sighed as the sky started to gray, it was dawn.

I went downstairs and made a pot of coffee for Mabel with a bit of her Mabel Juice in it. She needed a jump start in the mornings to help her keep smiling all day, and I needed a shot of caffeine myself to keep my eyes open at night on the days me and Mabel hang out. I looked out the window and saw the Sun was already climbing the horizon, right on time. And like clockwork I heard the sound of hooves heading this way. "Morning Mabel," I said pouring out some of her favorite beverage out in a cup and setting it next to her coffee mug. She liked to mix it herself because there was a certain "balance" to it I never got right. I started to make breakfast as she chugged the stuff like it was water. She then smiled and said, "HEY DIPPER!" It was shocking every morning to see her mood change so easily like the flip of a switch. We then had a cereal race and she went back to her room to get dressed. I was washing the dishes when I saw a flash of yellow in the tree outside. It was probably a bird so I ignored it. Mabel came back wearing her favorite shooting star sweater and her saddlebag. I made mine float over to me and strapped it into place. "You ready to go into town?" Mabel asked as she headed towards the door. "Yeah," I said unenthusiastically walking up next to her. "What's wrong bro bro?" she asked with a worried expression. "Nothing, I'm just tired," I said as I opened the door. "You should have gotten some sleep last night!" she said nagging me as we walked to town. "Mabel, it's not because I stay up at night, its that I went with you to town yesterday and still have to work on things with princess Luna. Like last night's dream when you were dreaming about humans," I said making her stop in her tracks. "Wait so you watch over ponies dreams too? What was the human's name?" Mabel asked eyeing me with suspicion. "Her name was Mabel Pines and she was wearing a shooting star sweater like the one you are now. Then one called Dipper Pines that had a hat with my cutie mark on it," I said recalling the details vividly as I walked ahead. We then dropped the subject as we neared Ponyville. I hated the fact that I had to come with her to buy things, but I had to since she would waste all the money on candy. After we bought all the necessities we still had some bits left. I divided it evenly and we went to go shopping. The only thing that caught my eye was a blank hat that looked like the none from the dream, but it didn't have my cutie mark on it yet. I had the sales pony customize it so that it looked like then one the human was wearing. I then bought it for ten bits after haggling with him. I put it on and it fit right over my horn, and his my birthmark as well.

I met up with Mabel at the library so she could go to work at Sugarcube Corner. As she flew towards her job I heard the sound of a door opening. I turned to see Twilight Sparkle standing there with a heavy pile of books on her back. I then levitated half of the stack onto my back and saw her smile. "Thanks Dipper, I need to get these animal books to Fluttershy's house," Twilight said as we walked over there. "It's nothing, just helping an old classmate. Speaking of which how're your studies going?" I asked as we crossed the bridge over a small river. "They're alright, my friends have been helping me learn a lot about the subject," she said as the small cottage came into view. "I've been learning a lot in my private studies with princess Luna. We've covered dream walking, dream analysis, and a few complex spells that are non-dream related," I said internally gagging at the mention of that subject. She knocked on the door and the yellow Pegasus opened the door immediately. "Oh thank you Twilight, I really needed these books to see what Angel will eat," the shy pony said in barely more than a whisper. We then said goodbye after helping her stack all the books according to subject. "Thanks again for helping me carry those books Dipper. I don't think I would have made it very far without your help," Twilight said making me blush lightly. "It was nothing," I said pulling down the brim of my hat to hide my blush. "Nice hat Dipper, where'd you get it?" she said taking notice of it. I was relieved to have the subject changed. "Nowhere special. I'd better get to bed or I might collapse from exhaustion," I said beginning to walk off. "Oh that right, you do stay up at night and sleep during the day. Sorry for keeping you up so long," Twilight said making me turn around. "It's okay, I just need to go get some shut eye," I said trotting home.

I found myself in a different place than normal once I started dreaming. Usually I was in a hallway with Luna as we decided which pony needed help, but today was strange. I was in a forest full of pine trees and saw a book on the ground. It was lying in some burnt grass and had what looked like a six fingered hand on it. I found that strange since Lyra told me human hands only had five fingers. As I flipped through I saw lots of creatures I never knew existed. Some looked like things of fable, while others seemed fresh from nightmares. I put it in my saddle bag and continued to explore the seemingly endless woods. I then saw a glowing 2 dimensional pyramid floating there in silence. It then opened it's eye and looked down on me. I felt uneasy under the watchful eye of this creature. "Hey there pine tree. You seem to have quite the curiosity," he said gesturing to the book hidden in my bag. "What do you want demon? Luna warned me about your kind," I said recalling all of her warnings about dream demons. "Ah, you mean eclipse. She had so much potential, but her sister was dragging her down. You and your twin seem to have the same relationship. She's the people pony who gets along with everyone and get gets everything she wants. While you have all the raw power but don't have proper guidance," he said floating down so he was eye level with me. "I won't fall for your tricks. My teacher told me that you twist the hearts of those who were once kind, into monsters!" I said walking away from him. He snapped his fingers and was instantly in front of me. I took a step back in surprise as a natural instinct. "She's such a hypocrite! To talk about her old teacher that way," he said faking shock. "How did you do that?" I asked shocked he could do magic without a horn. The only being I knew that could do that was Discord. "Please, that statue only likes to pull practical jokes! I could show you everything there is to know. Even Starswirl the bearded asked for some hints!" He then lit his hands on fire with blue flames, and I knew he used dark magic. "I don't know. Dark magic has been said to swallow up ponies who's wills weren't strong enough," I said realizing that he could help me understand magic better. "Why do you doubt yourself pine tree? You are far better than unicorn I've tried to reach before. If you ever want to make a deal, that book there has a way to summon me. I'll even give you the two others," he said snapping his fingers. Two other journals identical to the new I had appeared. The only difference was the number in the middle of the six fingered hand. I flipped through the third until I saw an image that looked like him. "Name's Bill Cipher, and the one who wrote that book was a little paranoid. Most of the facts are reliable, but he got the wrong idea about me," Bill said pointing to where it said "DO NOT SUMMON!!!!!!" I then flipped to another plate and saw the words trust no one retraced, underline, italicized, and bolded as if it was the rule of life. "Might want to take his advice there kid. Even shooting star is a liability. I have to go, you're waking up. Remember, REALITY'S AN ILLUSION, THE UNIVERSE IS A HOLOGRAM, BUY GOLD BYE!!!!!!!!" I then woke up and saw I was covered in freezing sweat. Considering the fact that Mabel wasn't rushing in here, I didn't scream. I turned to see the three journals from my dream were on my desk, and jumped out of bed. I ran to the window and saw that the Sun was starting to set. What should I do? What would I do? What could I do? What did I do?
