Chapter Five
Moonclaw was shoving rocks.
They had already made the nursery, so they had a good idea how to do it. Everyone helped-except the kits, of course.
Moonclaw thrust her full weight at the boulder. It moved a couple of mouse-lengths.
A gold-and-white tom named Sunstreak, whom she had befriended on their journey, came up next to her.
"Want help?" he asked.
Moonclaw nodded gratefully. "Thanks."
Together, they pushed the rock up against the others.
Once they had made a rough cave out of rocks (It still had huge gaps and was in danger of collapsing) They stuffed the gaps with seaweed and then added a layer of driftwood, creating a very low cave. (They had figured out a way to let the sunlight in through the wood and seaweed.) Then they dug out a large amount of sand from the inside of the cave, and now they had a medicine den!
Next came the elder's den, then the warriors den, then the apprentice's den. But something was missing.
The dens were all sandy and rough and dull, Dolphinstar concluded. She sent out Moonclaw, Sunstreak, Foxpaw (Moonclaw's apprentice), Hazelpaw, and Currentstripe as a border patrol and to try to find any shells or shiny rocks or really anything that might make good decorations or bedding.
When they got back, they had shells, rocks, seaglass, palm leaves, other leaves, moss, and grass. The seaglass was places in the leaves of the palm trees, but everything else was sort of just scattered. The nursery and apprentice's den did not get any bedding or decorations, as the patrol had also found a patch of soft pink sand for those. Carrying sacks were woven out of leaves, and taken to collect the sand.
Finally, they could call the camp home.
