Moonclaw knew that it was a special day. Lightkit's apprentice ceremony, and Hazelpaw's warrior ceremony! Moonclaw already had a good idea about who would mentor Lightkit-Beetlestorm, the medicine cat. Lightkit was always in the medicine den, helping with scratches and sprains and minor colds and coughs.

"Moonclaw." said a voice.

Moonclaw opened her eyes. She had been trying to get back to sleep! But since it was Hazelpaw, she decided she wouldn't be angry.

"Hi, Hazelpaw." she said.

"Moonclaw Moonclaw Moonclaw!" yelped Rainpaw, Sunstreak's apprentice. That cat had the energy of a minnow. 

Oddly, Moonclaw thought she saw a flash of-what? Anger? Hate?-in Hazelpaw's eyes. But it was gone the next second, and Moonclaw decided that she had imagined it. But she couldn't stop thinking about it. What if she hates Rainpaw. What if she betrays the Clan. What if she hates all of us. 

Moonclaw shook herself. She knew that she shouldn't judge anyone by one or two incidents. 

"Hazelpaw! You become a warrior today! Isn't that great?" she said. Hazelpaw nodded and left. 

She's been so weird lately.

"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather here below the Highrock for a Clan Meeting!"

Dolphinstar's yowl rang through the camp. Moonclaw knew the way they did this: Warrior Ceremonies were conducted at Moonhigh. 

Moonclaw got to her paws and walked out into the sunlight. She sat in her place next to the Highwood. 

"Today we have one kit ready to be an apprentice. Lightkit, step forward."

Lightkit did so.

"I choose Beetlestorm to mentor Lightkit. Beetlestorm, will you teach Lightkit all that you know?"

"I will."

"Lightkit, from this day forward, until you earn your warrior name, you shall be known as Lightpaw."

"Lightpaw!"

"Lightpaw!"

As Moonclaw looked proudly down at her sister, she could almost forget the expression she'd seen on Hazelpaw's face.
