Chapter 26

I woke up on a Monday morning feeling weak and tired. Mondays are not really nice to wake up to early in the morning, but I had to be up early for work. I stretched, then swung my legs off the edge of my bed before standing up to head out of my room.

Just when I was about to get to the kitchen, I realised Taehyung was still sleeping soundly on the couch. My eyes widened, "Taehyung!"

He shot up from the couch. "What?" He responded and wiped his drool from the corner of his lips.

"You're late for work! It's 10 already," I said.

He rolled his eyes then lay back down on the couch, "I'm not going to work today," he said.

I raised an eyebrow, "Why?"

"I don't feel like it," he casually input, "But I'm sending you off to work today."

I blinked a few times, walking towards him, "W-What did you say?"

"I said you're an idiot and you should make me breakfast now," he spoke, being the typical Taehyung I knew.

I smiled. Finally, he doesn't mind me working outside anymore.

Whilst Taehyung was sleeping still, I went to the kitchen to prepare sandwiches. Surprisingly it wasn't a fail.

"Kim Tae," I woke him up, putting the plate of sandwiches on the coffee table.

He groaned, opening only one eye to peek at the breakfast that I made, then stretched out one hand to reach for a sandwich. "Yah!" I slapped his hand, "Go wash up first."

"Don't tell me what to do," He said as he stood up lazily, making his way to the washroom.

Minutes later, he came back, rushing to sit and eat the breakfast I made.

"Does it taste fine?" I asked.

"It's horrible," he answered, "But I'm too hungry."

I slightly chuckled, then dusted my hands after eating the last piece of my sandwich. "You're letting me work now?" I suddenly asked, and Taehyung took a moment before looking at me.

"It's because I'm done caring for you, and also you're just that stubborn," he explained, wolfing down his sandwich.

I smiled widely, "Then I'll go get ready!"

I got excited and jumped off the couch, quickly getting into shower and picking something simple to wear for the day. After I was done dressing up, it was Taehyung's turn, and he was done in less than minutes. Men, you see.

I was just hyper and chirpy all the way, even when Taehyung was driving me to work, I couldn't stop talking about random things, and he only rolled his eyes at me.

Taehyung walked with me to the entrance of the cafe. "You can go home now, thanks for sending me to work," I smiled widely.

"Who says I'm going home?" He asked, taking off his shades. I froze, he's not staying as I work, right?

"I'm accompanying you for work, duh," he used his index finger and tickled my chin, grinning at me, before pushing his way into the cafe.

I rushed after him, wanting to stop him from entering but it was all too late when Jinyoung already noticed us.

"Uh... Hello?" Jinyoung greeted us awkwardly.

I pulled back my fringe behind my ear. "This... This is, my h-husband."

I caught sight of Taehyung smiling at the introduction I made. "Hello, I'm Kim Taehyung. Nice to meet you."

Jinyoung put away the mop she was holding then came to us, bowing to Taehyung. "I'm Song Jinyoung," she smiled at us, "You must be the guy Hyejin's been talking about."

My eyes darted at her, then I clenched my teeth.

Taehyung smirked, "She talks about me? What about?"

"Nothing," I cut the conversation, "Jinyoung unnie, let's get started on work."

"What about your husband?" She asked, "You wanna get him a drink?"

I walked over to Jinyoung, wrapping my arms around hers. "That kid can survive on his own," I whispered to her, dragging her to the counter. Jinyoung simply chuckled, shaking her head.

As I put on my apron and cap, I saw Taehyung taking a seat at the very corner of the cafe, crossing his legs elegantly. "Um, excuse me, can I have an order," he raised his hand, looking at me.

I raised an eyebrow. "You're supposed to order here," I said, ignoring him and standing behind the counter.

I'm glad that there wasn't any customers at the moment.

I heard Jinyoung chuckling as she brewed some coffee, "You guys are actually cute together."

I glared at her over my shoulder, "Aish, Unnie, he's just here to disturb me."

Just then, my phone beeped. I unlocked my phone screen and checked the message I got, only to see a picture of me sent with a text.

"Can this beautiful lady get me a cup of Americano?" --Taehyung

'Beautiful'? I gulped, turning away, making sure he couldn't see my reaction after I read the message because for sure I was blushing so hard my cheeks could've burst.

I sighed, preparing a cup of coffee for him eventhough I didn't really want to. My heart was unknowingly palpating nervously, for I had no idea why.

I walked towards him, who was still sitting like a rich landlord. "Here you go, Kim Taehyung-ssi."

He used his index finger and pulled down his shades slightly down his nose bridge, peeking at me, "Thank you."

"Yah, stop acting like an arrogant bachelor, you punk. Now pay for the coffee," I put out my hand to receive money.

He took out some cash, smacking it into my hand. "Keep the change," he said, sipping his coffee delicately.

I pursed my lips then turned around, walking back to the counter whilst staring down at the handful of money I just got for serving one cup of coffee.

Since lunch time was around, more people started coming by but Taehyung was still there in his seat, using his phone. I couldn't help but steal glances at him as I served customers, and our eyes occasionally met. Most of the time I peeled my eyes off him first, only because if i looked longer, the butterflies in my stomach could actually kill me.

After lunch time, the wave of customers subsided, and I took the oppurtunity to approach Taehyung whom was getting restless sitting in the corner of the cafe by himself.

"Why are you still here?" I asked, folding my arms.

"When does your shift enddsss?" He whined like a kid.

I smiled, "About evening. You don't have to wait for me you know? Just go home and sleep."

"Just go do your work, you idiot," he rested his head on the table.

I giggled, "You're still gonna wait?"

He ignored me, then groaned.

"Well then I'll go back to work," I said, turning on the ball of my feet and started wiping tables.

It was 4 in the afternoon, and I was pretty much exhausted. I was having a little chat with Jinyoung behind the counter, then I noticed Taehyung was heading to the washroom.

"Yah, you and your husband look good together, huh," Jinyoung nudged me and smirked.

"What are you talking about..." I hid my smile, and wiped the counter clean.

Bells rang and someone came into the cafe. "Hello there ladies," Seojun greeted us with a wide smile.

I awkwardly smiled upon his greeting, suddenly thinking of the awkward "lunch" we had together last Saturday.

Then I realised, Taehyung was also around.

My eyes widened, wishing Taehyung wouldn't come out of the washroom any time soon. I came over to Seojun. "You should uh, sit," I said, urging him to sit somewhere unnoticeable.

"Yes I will, but I've brought something for you both," he said, grinning. I looked at his hands, each holding a bag of something. "This one's for you," he said, handing a bag to Jinyoung.

She smiled gratefully. "Why, thank you very much!" She looked into the bag, "Such a beautiful hat!"

He smiled proudly before turning to me, "And this one's for you."

I looked down at the bag he was handing to me, then bit the corner of my bottom lip, hesitant to accept it. I reluctantly took it from his hand, "Thank you, but what's with the gifts?"

"I was just being around the mall after my check up today, and I saw these were on sale," he said, "So I bought them for you ladies. We're friends anyways."

I looked into the bag, and my eyes widened, "This must be an expensive watch!"

"It's nothing," he ran his fingers through his hair, "You should put it on now."

Suddenly, an arm slid around my shoulder, and I smelled a familliar cologne.

"Rightt," Taehyung said, looking down at me, then his eyes darted to the gift I was holding. "You should put it on now," he spoke rather sarcastically.

I looked up at him and gulped, realising our faces were getting closer, and that his arm around my shoulder was getting tighter.

I turned back infront to Seojun, "Green Tea Frappe for you?"

"I'll go prepare that," Jinyoung suddenly said, and I was quite disappointed she did because I was meant to use it as an excuse to escape.

"We should continue last Saturday's conversation, shall we?" Taehyung said to Seojun.

Seojun cleared his throat, his face evidently show that he was quite uncomfortable. "Yes, sure, why not."

We three sat at a table, me and Taehyung sat side by side and Seojun was opposite us.

I sighed, putting down my cap on the table, "I can't be here for very long, my work shift's not done yet."

Seojun smiled, "It's okay you can--"

"It's okay, Hyejinnieee," Taehyung patted my head gently. "I'll be here no matter how long you take, okayyyy?" Taehyung talked with a baby-like slur and I couldn't help but cringe. What's got into this kid?

I heard Seojun chuckle, "It's strange how you guys were big enemies back in high school, now you're like love birds."

"RIGHHT?" Taehyung laughed eventhough I didn't see what was funny.

I responded by laughing awkwardly, and it was sure getting uncomfortable.

Seojun then tried to keep a conversation going, and he started talking about some other stuff, before Taehyung interrupted him with a loud yawn.

"I'm sorry," Taehyung apologised, resting his head on my shoulder then wrapped his arms around mine, "You may go on."

I instantly held my breath, peeking at him as his head rested on my shoulder.

"Does my story bore you?" Seojun asked.

"Not really," Taehyung responded, and I pursed my lips to stop myself from smiling. "Just keep talking," he said.

I was pretty much enjoying the fact that Taehyung was tugging his arms around mine quite tightly, that I couldn't really concentrate on Seojun talking to us.

"Your husband's asleep," Seojun said, looking down at Taehyung whom was still resting his head on my shoulder after an hour.

I smiled sheepishly. "I'm sorry about that, you want to talk somewhere else, or?"

"That would be fine, we shan't disturb his nap," Seojun said to me.

I was about to get up and I slowly tried to remove my arm from Taehyung's embrace, but he flinched, then pulled my arm even tighter. "Don't go," he spoke in a raspy voice, then went back to sleep.

I exchanged glances with Seojun, "I, uhm..."

"It's okay. I shall get going now, see you some other time," Seojun smiled at me.

I nodded, and watched as he left the cafe.

I peeked over at Taehyung whom was sleeping peacefully like a child on my shoulder. Is my shoulder that nice to lean on?

"Taehyung ah," I gently tapped his head.

He moved, licking his lips to moisten them, but his eyes were still shut. He brought his arms to wrap around my body, and pulled me towards him, closer, til' there was no gap between us. We were literally sticking close to each other. I froze, not knowing how to react.

I realised his head was getting closer to the crook of my neck, and I stiffened. My heart was beating violently in my chest to the point that it could fall out anytime soon.

His embrace was warmer than anything, and I especially missed it because it's been quite long since we've ever held each other close. I leaned my head on his.

I missed him. I missed us.

But I wasn't supposed to feel that way. I'm by his side only for show.

I gently pulled him away from me. "Wake up, you punk," I said, and his eyes slightly opened.

He rubbed his eyes, then looked at me, "Why are you sitting so close?"

I sighed, pushing myself off my seat. "My shift's almost over, be prepared to get home," I said, dragging my feet as I walked over to the counter.
