----------------------------------------------
"Are you okay?"
I got startled when Taehyung suddenly waved his hand infront of my face. I looked at him with a blank expression, "What?"
"Stop dreaming," he told me. "You've got something on your mind?" He asked as he ignited the car engine.
I put on my seatbelt, "Nothing, just tired."
Taehyung drove home, and I stared outside at the streets, thinking about random things that saddened me. I naturally got emotional, so I chose to stay quiet.
"What's wrong with you, kid?" Taehyung asked, a little concerned.
"I said I'm just tired," I replied, sounding a little annoyed. I rested my head against the car window pane, sighing.
"At least talk about something," he said.
"I'm tired. Just, be quiet!" I raised my voice.
Taehyung drove a little more further, before he suddenly pulled over at the provision shop nearby. "Get out of the car," he said firmly, "Now."
I glared at him, taken aback that he just told me to leave the car harshly and it worsened my bad mood. "Excuse me?"
He just ignored me, and I saw his jaw was clenched.
I just rolled my eyes as I stepped out of the car, slamming the door as hard as I could.
I stomped off, heading towards the park that was only a few distance from where I was. I didn't know why, I just had a really bad mood, and I was just frustrated at everything. Probably because I was tired, or probably because something was actually bugging me.
I sat at a bench, alone. I'm glad to be away from Taehyung for awhile, because at least it wouldn't hurt me further thinking about it.
What's on my mind, you'd ask.
Everything. Everything that I was facing at that point of time. I had sudden thoughts of what would happen after the 'marriage'. What's gonna happen after 6 months? Will Taehyung forget me like nothing happened? Will Taehyung and I be able to separate ways without thinking about the past?
And I realised I had been overthinking about Taehyung and I a little bit too much.
It hurt me to think that we'd be together for a good 6 months, only. His warm smile, his beautiful expressions, his every gesture, made my heart flutter so much and I wasn't supposed to feel in such a way, but I couldn't help myself. This only meant that, I was deeply in love.
How's that even possible? I thought feelings from the past wouldn't return but I was absolutely wrong. I was messed up, and I was afraid he'd push me away if he knew my true feelings for him. He needs me to help, not to fall for him.
"Take this, you punk."
A vanilla ice cream cone was offered to me and my eyes slightly widened, looking at who it was.
Taehyung.
I sighed, taking the ice cream cone from him. He sat beside me, and that only, already made my heart race.
Hyejin, stop.
I pursed my lips, looking nowhere else but the ice cream cone that was in my hands. I held it, not saying anything.
"Will you atleast thank me for the ice cream?" He asked me.
"T-Thanks," I responded, still not looking at him. It's driving me crazy.
"Alright, tell me all about it," Taehyung spoke whilst licking his ice cream.
"About what?" I asked, slightly twisiting my head to look at him.
"Whatever's bothering you," he said, pausing to lick his ice cream again, "It's always nice to rant over an ice cream cone."
I slightly smiled, "You're so thoughtful today huh."
"Oh, just how lucky you are to have a friend like me," He said, chuckling to himself.
He never failed to make me smile when he actually chose to, and I must admit that I was really lucky to have him by my side.
I sighed, "I'm just having a bad mood after work. Nothing more than that."
"Is it because you weren't able to speak to Seojun since I was there earlier?" Taehyung raised an eyebrow, "Have you guys been talking alot behind my back?"
"No, it's not that--"
Taehyung leaned in closer towards me, "Where's the watch he gave you? Why aren't you wearing it? Have you watered the flowers he gave you? Have you gone on a date with him? Have you--"
"I don't have feelings for Seojun," I interrupted him, and he looked stunned for awhile.
He twisted his head back infront, continuing to lick his ice cream, "Lies."
"So what if I do anyways?" I asked, and Taehyung dropped his cone of ice cream. He gulped.
"Yah! I dropped my ice cream because of you, rascal," Taehyung blamed me.
I furrowed my eyebrows, "How is it my fault?!"
"It is clearly your fault!"
"What? Are you drunk?"
"You can't fall for Seojun!"
"What are you-- Uh wait, what?" I looked at him with a puzzled expression.
He too, seemed shocked and confused at what he just said. "I mean, you can't fall for Seojun because you have to still pretend to be my wife."
There was an awkward silence for seconds, before we broke eye contact. "I think we should go home now," I said, quickly finishing my last bit of ice cream.
I was about to get up and walk off, before Taehyung called me, "Hyejin?"
I turned behind me, responding to him, "Yeah?"
He stood up, facing me. "You..." He took a step closer towards me, "You'll still stay with me, and help me, right?"
I looked down at my feet nervously before meeting my eyes back with his, "I'm here, right? I'll still help you as much as I can. Soohyun won't get in the way, no worries."
I faked a smile, trying to refrain myself from collapsing as I was looking straight into Taehyung's gorgeous looking pair of eyes which were staring intently back into mine.
"Sorry," he spoke in a low tone, almost whispering, "I must've been burdening you with everything."
As he spoke, I realised he was actually coming closer and closer towards me.
I was still locking my eyes with his. I'm always too shy to even look at him, but at that moment I suddenly felt like looking into his eyes forever.
"I don't usually thank people but..." he paused, pursing his lips.
I felt my heart beat getting heavier and heavier, cautious of his every movement.
He sighed, then finally encircled his arms around me, pulling me into a tight hug. "Thank you," he whispered into my ear, and I completely lost my breath.
I couldn't reply neither respond to him. My body was seriously stiff and I didn't even move an inch as his arms were still wrapping around my body.
I could almost feel his heart beat, probably pumping as violently as mine. I couldn't help but break into a wide smile, slowly hugging him back with the very little energy I had left. "It's okay," I replied, tiptoeing as I hugged him back because he was just that tall for me.
We finally let go of each other after awhile, feeling the extreme awkwardness. That didn't stop us from smiling like complete idiots.
"Yah, why are you so short though?" Taehyung teased me, and I shot a glare at him.
"I'm not short, you're just too tall," I input, walking before him.
"Whatever, midget," he teased me again and we ended up calling each other names as we walked all the way back to the car.
A night quite well spent after work, wasn't it?
***
The next day in the evening, after work, I came home early and immediately went for a quick shower because I was thinking of trying to cook dinner that day. Don't ask me why, I suddenly wanted to.
I put on clean, fresh clothes after shower, and excitedly headed to the kitchen, but suddenly there was a knock on the door. Taehyung's home, I thought.
I went up to the door, unlocking it and opened it up. I was really surprised to see that Taehyung didn't arrive home alone.
"Hello there," Soohyun greeted me.
I couldn't believe my eyes. Taehyung did not just bring a lady home. Not just any woman, but it's Jung Soohyun.
"Sorry, I forgot to bring some documents for Soohyun today and she needs it urgently so I gotta give it to her now," Taehyung explained, stepping into the house, "Soohyun, you can just wait here."
We both watched as Taehyung went into the office room.
I thought Soohyun was gonna just stay outside of the house, but she daringly set her foot into the apartment and gave me an arrogant smirk.
I gasped, "Uhm, I think I heard Taehyung saying you should wait outside of the house."
She darted her eyes at me. "So what?" She looked at me from head to toe, then let out a girly chuckle, "Do you know what Taehyung and I were gonna do if you weren't home?"
I stared at her, furrowing my eyebrows, "Have you got no pride for yourself?"
She kept on wearing that cunning smile of hers, and I was about to give her a tongue lashing but Taehyung returned with the documents in his hand. "Here you go," he handed them to her.
Jung Soohyun whom was wearing her witch-like expressions I had seen moments ago changed into a modest looking person. "Thank you, Kim Taehyung," she smiled very sweetly to him to the point that I would've slapped her with my flip flops.
She waved him goodbye, a little too cutely, before turning to me and secretly rolled her eyes at me. I controlled myself from having the urge to murder her, and waited for her to step out of our apartment before I slammed the door close.
Taehyung plopped down on the couch, rubbing his neck, "I'm so tiredd."
"Why did she have to follow you all the way up to our apartment?" I asked him and folded my arms.
"She wanted to," he replied.
"And you let her?" I questioned him.
"Why are you asking me so many questions, Lee Hyejin?" Taehyung got up from the couch, "I'm going for a shower, bye."
I didn't know why, but I felt suspicious of the two of them. Whatever Soohyun just told me apparently just set my heart on fire.
Was Taehyung just making a fool of me, or did he really need me to get rid of Soohyun?
