Chapter 12
The next morning Eren woke up early, around six, and texted Levi.
Eren: Meet me at the park around 2pm. I have someplace to be before.
A few minutes later, surprisingly, he got a response.
Levi: Okay, sounds good. Then I'm getting more sleep.
Eren laughed slightly at the text before putting the phone down and started getting ready. He had therapy and with a new psychologist. This one was from California and worked in a team with her husband and friend. He had forgot her name. Apparently his last one dropped him as a patient because he was "impossible". Of course he only found out about this because he was eavesdropping but whatever.
Eren looked in the mirror, studying himself. He was skinny jeans (or emo jeans as his dad called them), a brown t-shirt, and his nicer sneakers. The only reason he had on the nicer ones was because he was meeting up with Levi after and was going to dance for him.
He had even managed to tame his hair, but it will probably only stay that way for, if he was lucky, half an hour.
Glancing over at the clock he saw the time. 10am. Shit! My appointment is at 11!
Eren grabbed his phone and laptop, sliding them both in his bag before picking up his guitar and violin cases. Damn, now I see how I'm so strong.
He raced down the stairs and slung his lanyard over his head before locking the door and running as fast as he possibly could with his instruments down the street. Eren ran to his appointments.
He managed to arrive at the small building five minutes before therapy started. Perfect. The building was a small, one story brick building. It had a small waiting room and in the back were three individual "therapy rooms". Needless to say it was a small place, but he's been going here since he was ten for appointments so it worked. He knew everyone here, and they knew him.
When he walked in he smiled at Pepper, the receptionist. "Hello Eren! You can leave your instruments in the usual spot and go back to the normal room. The therapist is waiting for you." Eren nodded and put his instruments in a corner before walking to the back, entering the second "therapy room", the same one he's been going to for five years.
The room was small but familiar to him. It had white carpet, fading with age and wear, light green walls, a couch that he's always sat on, and a chair for the therapist. There were also blankets, pillows, toys, games, and books for the patients.
When he walked in he saw a woman, maybe a little over thirty, sitting in the chair. She had brown hair pulled up into a sloppy ponytail and glasses. Dressed in slacks and a white button up she was sitting criss-cross in the chair. The woman looked very familiar...
"Ah! You just me Eren Jaeger! My name is Klaire Zöe, your new therapist." Wait...Zöe?! She smiled. "Please sit!" The woman was Hanji's mom and definitely had her daughters energy.
Eren sat on the couch, setting his bag next to him and grabbed his pen and paper. He always had to document what he said.
Are you Hanji's mom?
"Yes I am! And call me Klaire, with a k!" She smiled wide, which caused me to smile. "Okay Eren, since this is our first time together I want to learn about you. I mean I've read your file but I want it from you. So I'll be asking questions and you just write the answer. Got it?" I nodded. "Then lets begin!" She flipped a paper on her clipboard over and adjusted her glasses.
"What are some hobbies of yours?"
I play guitar and violin, mix music, and dance.
"Very cool. Who do you live with?"
My dad and adopted sister Mikasa.
"What's your relationship with those two people?"
Mikasa and I are very close, we've known each other all our lives. She's very protective over me and helps me out a lot. Like a mom. With my dad...I guess we're doing fine. He's never around but that's okay.
"Why is it okay that he's never around?"
I like being alone.
"Why do you like being alone?"
Eren looked at her before going back to writing.
People scare or anger me easily. I get nervous around them too sometimes.
"Do you have any friends?"
Yeah. My best friend is names Armin and I've known him my whole life. I also have a few more: Sasha, Connie, Krista, Ymir, and a guy I just met named Levi. And your daughter.
She looked at Eren at the mention of Levi's name but didn't comment.
"Do you have people you don't get along with?"
There's this one asshole named Jean. He makes it his life goal to piss me off.
"I know that feeling. Do you ever get anti-social?"
I was for about two years after my mom died. I didn't hang out with any of my friends and always went straight home to lock myself in my room. I think the only social thing I did was come to therapy. But eventually Armin was able to bring me out of it.
"And have you ever fallen back into those habits?"
No. They make sure either Armin or Mikasa are near so I don't.
"What are the 'attacks' mentioned in my notes?"
Those are when I flash back to when my mom died.
"And how did your mother die?"
She was murdered, stabbed to death. I watched the whole thing.
"Did anything else happen besides the stabbing?"
He hesitated slightly before answering.
No. That's all.
"And here's my final question: Why don't you talk?"
I can't answer that.
"Why?"
I just can't. End of story.
"Okay. That's the end of our session. I'll see you again Monday. It was nice meeting you today." Eren nodded and handed her the papers with his answers and stood up, grabbing his bag. He waved and left the room.
As he walked down the street, instrument cases in hand, he thought back to his session. He always hated when people asked why he didn't talk, but Mrs. Zöe is the first to not press for answers when he wrote that he couldn't tell why he couldn't tell her.
Eren stopped at a crosswalk and checked his phone. 2:10pm. Shit! I'm late!
He picked up his stuff and darted to the park. Fuck my life.
