Chapter 14

Hanji lead Levi up the stairs and to her mom's office. Her house had the same layout as Eren's.

When they got to the office Hanji went over to the desk and opened the drawer, searching for the file. "Jaeger. Jaeger. Jaeger. Jaeger!" She pulled it out and laid it on the desk, beckoning Levi over. "Come child, let us see whats wrong with the little titan."

"Little titan?" Levi rolled his eyes. "I don't even know why you want to know this stuff. It doesn't seem of any use to us."

"But we could better understand him! Now," She flipped open the file and looked on the first page. It contained two pictures: one of ten year old Eren and one of current Eren. Hanji pointed to the younger Eren picture. "This was when he was only ten. When he first started therapy." Levi leaned next to her and looked at the picture. He looked so...empty.

"Lets see." She scanned the page. "It says he has some form of social anxiety, anger issues, and PTSD. Maybe mild depression." She looked up. "Wow, this poor kid. But why PTSD?" She was about to flip the page when Levi stopped her. "I think that's enough. Just look at the first page."

"Fine." She grumbled. "But I want to know more. I do this all the time you know? Just read her patient files. I've seen some fucked up shit."

"You may do it all the time but we know Eren personally and this is prying into his life." He glared at her. "I'm a curious person and I'll do as I wish. You can just stand there."

Hanji started flipping through and reading the file. "Ah here it is. Cause of PTSD thought to be-" She choked off and covered her mouth in shock. "Oh my god! Levi!"

"What is it?" He noticed her state. "They think the cause of the PTSD is a traumatic even that caused the admission to therapy." Levi narrowed his eyes. "And what would that be."

She swallowed and looked back down. "His mother was stabbed to death right in front of him. When his dad came back he found Eren knocked out and mother dead. That's also where they see the depression. Social anxiety from no longer trusting strangers and being nervous, scared, or angry around them. And his anger issues because the event triggered some kind of reaction in him. It says that when he woke up in the hospital he wouldn't talk to anyone, but he would write it. He truly hasn't spoken in five years because of this."

Levi's eyes widened. "That brat has been through this?" Hanji nodded. "And from what I see he hasn't told anyone, anyone ever, why he stopped talking. They think something else happened but he's not saying, or writing, anything about it." She closed the file and put it back. "Wow..."

Levi nodded. "Wow indeed. And from what I've heard from him his dad is never around and never talks to him or his sister Mikasa. So there is some sort of child neglect there. Mikasa is like a mom to him." Levi rubbed his face. "Does he take medication for any of this?" Hanji shook her head. "I looked. He isn't on meds. He should be, but he isn't."

"Why isn't he?" She opened the file back up and flipped to the right page. "His dad denied the meds. His dad is some world renowned doctor so they trusted his judgment." Levi scoffed. "I don't trust his dad, and I haven't even met the guy."

"Wait! Look at these. They're my mom's notes from today." She scanned them and hummed. "Interesting. My mom is suspecting some kind of abuse or neglect from the dad." Hanji squinted and put the file away, standing up from the desk and pacing.

"Levi, had Eren display and odd behavior around you since you've met?" Levi shrugged. "Not that I really know of. Except the other day we were in a coffee shop and I grabbed his wrist for some reason. The kid freaked and fell to the floor. When I tried to help him up he looked at me and his eyes were full of this fear." Hanji nodded and continued pacing. "That can be behavior of an abused child, or someone who touched him and it scared him."

She stopped pacing and grabbed Levi's hand, pulling him from the office and closing the door again. "Come on, we're going to see Eren. I need to apologize."

Before Levi could even protest he was being towed out the house and along to Eren's. Hanji stopped at the door and rang the doorbell repeatedly. "Four-eyes stop!" He hissed but she ignored him.

The door opened suddenly and they expected to see Eren. Instead there was a short, scrawny boy with blond hair and blue eyes. "Armin?" Levi asked confused.

Armin nodded and glared at them. "What do you want?" His tone had a severe bite to it.

"I want to apologize to Eren. Can I see him?" Hanji tried looking behind him but the blond blocked her way.

"He isn't in a current condition to be seeing anyone. So I kindly ask you to leave."

"What's wrong with him?" Levi piped up from the back, walking forward and standing next to Hanji.

"That's non of your business. But he's upstairs freaking out. He signed me the whole thing and now he's frantically moving his hands to say "he thinks I am a freak" over and over again." Armin growled at Levi. "Did you call him a freak?"

Levi's eyes widened and he shook his head. "I never called that brat a freak. I didn't even get a chance to react to what Hanji said before the was in the house." He crossed his arms. "Let me see him."

Armin shook his head. "It's best no one disturb him. He'll calm down in an hour or so."

Levi's eyes narrowed. "What if I can calm him now?" That earned a bitter laugh from the blond. "No one has ever done that before and I doubt some guy he's only known for a few days can help either."

"Let me see him." He said in a dangerous tone. Armin sighed. "Fine, but I'm going to watch it." He lead the pair in and up the stairs to Eren's room. "He's in there."

Levi nodded and opened the door, walking in with the blond and brunette in tow. What he saw was a pitiful site. Eren was curled up, his hands moving in rapid succession like Armin said. He was looking down as he did this.

"Eren?" He asked cautiously, kneeling in front of him. The boy looked up and his signing changed. "He's asking: Why are you here?" Armin translated.

"Eren, I'm here to help you out." The green orbs squinted at him. "I must be a freak to you."

Levi shook his head. "No you aren't. Just because you go to therapy doesn't mean you're a freak. I've known Hanji for most my life and I've been around patients that are legitimately crazy." He grabbed Eren's hands. The boy didn't even flinch at the contact. "Understand?"

Eren nodded and pulled him into a hug, shocking everybody. Levi hesitantly wrapped his arms around him. "Are you okay now?" He felt a nod. "Are you tired?" Another nod.

Levi stood them and picked up Eren, bringing him over to his bed and laying him on it and pulling the blanket over him.

Armin pulled them out of the room and quietly shut the door, leading them back down to the living room. "Okay so what the hell was that? I've never seen Eren be calmed down so easily or touch somebody so easily."

Hanji came in with an answer. "He likes Eren." Levi punched Hanji in the shoulder. "I do not, in that way."

"Oh but you do Levi dearest, and Eren likes you too. But you're both too stubborn to admit it."

Armin shook his head. "Listen up Levi, Eren seems to really like you in one way or another. He seems to trust you, so don't screw it up. Besides even if you guys do like each other that way the relationship won't happen. He's already got a boyfriend."
