Chapter 13
The venue was overwhelming.
Bright lights. Cameras everywhere. Fans screaming. Names being called.
Another award show. Another night where everything had to look perfect.
Backstage, everyone was getting ready.
Outfits adjusted. Mics checked. Smiles practiced.
But Dohoon stood slightly apart.
Quiet.
Still.
Hanjin noticed immediately.
He walked over, careful not to draw attention, and stood beside him.
"You okay?" he asked softly.
Dohoon nodded.
But it wasn't convincing.
Not to Hanjin.
"You don't have to say it out loud," Hanjin murmured, just loud enough for him to hear, "I can tell."
Dohoon glanced at him — just for a second.
And that was enough.
When their group's name was announced as the winner, everything blurred.
Applause.
Shock.
The members pulling each other into hugs.
They walked on stage together, slightly breathless, slightly overwhelmed.
Dohoon was handed the microphone.
Leader.
Spokesperson.
The one who always knew what to say.
But tonight—
His hands trembled.
Just slightly.
He looked out at the crowd.
Thousands of people.
Cameras zooming in.
Fans waiting.
And somewhere in that noise—
Hanjin.
Standing just behind him.
Watching.
Always watching.
Dohoon inhaled slowly.
"We... didn't expect this," he started, voice steady but softer than usual.
The crowd cheered.
He continued.
"There were moments this year where things felt... uncertain."
The members glanced at him.
This wasn't the usual script.
"But," Dohoon went on, eyes briefly shifting — not obvious, but intentional — "I realized something important."
A pause.
His grip on the mic tightened slightly.
"That no matter how difficult things get... you don't have to go through it alone."
Hanjin's breath caught.
He knew.
He knew exactly what this meant.
Dohoon's voice softened.
"There are people who stay. Even when it's hard. Even when you push them away."
The words hit deeper than the audience could understand.
Behind him, Hanjin lowered his gaze slightly — not to hide, but to steady himself.
Dohoon continued, more certain now.
"And I'm really grateful... for the people who chose to stay with me."
The crowd erupted again.
To them, it was a touching speech.
To Hanjin—
It was everything.
Dohoon finished with a bow.
"Thank you for loving us."
Applause filled the venue.
But when they stepped back from the microphones, just for a second—
Dohoon's hand brushed against Hanjin's.
Not accidental.
Not for show.
Hanjin's fingers curled slightly in response.
A quiet answer.
Backstage was chaos
Staff congratulating them. Members celebrating loudly.
Youngjae almost tackled Dohoon in excitement.
Jihoon kept replaying the speech. "Bro went poetic out of nowhere."
Kyungmin smiled knowingly.
Shinyu just watched quietly.
And Hanjin?
He waited.
Until the noise faded just enough.
Then he stepped closer.
"You meant that," Hanjin said softly.
Dohoon didn't pretend.
"Yes."
A pause.
Then Hanjin smiled — small, emotional, real.
"Good."
No dramatic moment.
No big gesture.
Just understanding.
Later that night, back at the dorm, the world finally went quiet.
No cameras.
No noise.
Just them.
Hanjin leaned against the wall near the window.
"You were brave," he said.
Dohoon shook his head slightly.
"I was honest."
Hanjin stepped closer.
"That's harder."
For a moment, they just stood there.
Then Dohoon reached out, pulling Hanjin closer by the sleeve.
Gentle.
Familiar.
"I meant every word," Dohoon murmured.
Hanjin looked at him, eyes softer than ever.
"I know."
Dohoon leaned in and pressed a quiet, lingering kiss to his lips.
Not rushed.
Not hidden.
Just real.
When they pulled apart, nothing needed to be said.
Because some things—
Were never meant for the stage.
Only for each other.
