Chapter 12

It didn't explode all at once.

It built quietly.

Schedules got heavier. Rumors got louder. Staff started watching interactions more closely after the injury era made fans even more suspicious.

Dohoon noticed it first.

The way managers subtly separated them in seating arrangements.

The way cameras lingered longer.

The way whispers followed them.

So he pulled back again.

Not harshly.

Not coldly.

Just enough.

And that hurt more.

Hanjin felt it immediately.

The hugs disappeared.
The small touches stopped.
Late-night talks became short "goodnight" texts from across the hall.

Finally, Hanjin snapped.

In the empty practice room, after everyone left, he grabbed Dohoon's wrist.

"Why are you doing this again?"

Dohoon didn't meet his eyes.

"We need to be careful."

"We already talked about this."

"It's different now."

"How?"

Dohoon's voice cracked slightly. "Because if this ruins the group, I won't forgive myself."

Silence.

Hanjin's grip loosened.

"So you'd rather ruin us?"

That hit.

Dohoon finally looked at him.

"I'm trying to protect you."

"From what? Loving you?"

The words trembled.

Dohoon stepped back.

And that was worse than any argument.

Hanjin's voice broke.

"I stood by you when you thought you weren't enough. I stayed when you were scared. Why won't you let me stay now?"

Dohoon's composure shattered.

"I don't want to lose everything."

"You won't."

"I could lose you."

That was the truth.

And it scared him more than anything.

Hanjin walked forward this time.

Slow.

Deliberate.

He placed his hand against Dohoon's chest.

"You don't get to decide alone," Hanjin whispered. "If it gets hard, we face it together. If it falls apart, we rebuild it together."

Tears welled in Dohoon's eyes — rare, unguarded.

"I'm tired of being strong," he admitted quietly.

"Then don't be."

Hanjin pulled him into a hug.

Not gentle.

Not hesitant.

Desperate.

Dohoon held him back just as tightly, like if he let go now, he'd actually lose him.

"I'm sorry," Dohoon whispered against his shoulder.

"I'm not leaving," Hanjin replied.

For a long moment, they just stood there — breathing the same air, hearts racing, walls finally down.

When they pulled apart, Dohoon cupped Hanjin's face carefully.

"I choose you," he said.

Not scared.

Not running.

Certain.

Hanjin smiled through tears.

"Then stop letting fear make decisions for us."

Dohoon leaned forward and kissed him — steady, grounding, not rushed.

When they separated, nothing about their situation had magically changed.

The rumors still existed.

The pressure was still real.

But now?

They weren't fighting alone.

And that made all the difference.
