Chapter 20
For a long moment after Dohoon's confession, neither of them moved.
The city stretched endlessly beneath them.
Cars moved through distant streets.
Lights flickered.
Life continued.
Yet somehow everything felt frozen.
-
Hanjin stared at the ground.
Not because he didn't have anything to say.
Because he had too much.
Weeks.
Weeks of pretending.
Weeks of swallowing words.
Weeks of trying to convince himself that letting go was the right thing to do.
And now Dohoon stood beside him saying exactly what he'd wanted to hear.
Too late.
Or maybe—
Not too late.
"Why now?"
Hanjin finally asked.
His voice was barely above a whisper.
Dohoon closed his eyes briefly.
Because he knew that question was coming.
And he deserved it.
"I was scared."
Hanjin laughed softly.
Not happy.
Not angry.
Just tired.
"You always say that."
"I know."
"And every time you're scared, you leave."
-
That one landed directly in Dohoon's chest.
Because it was true.
Painfully true.
For months he'd convinced himself he was protecting them.
Protecting the group.
Protecting Hanjin.
Protecting everything.
But looking back now—
The only thing he'd actually done was hurt the person he loved most.
"I'm sorry."
The words felt small.
Pathetic.
Not enough.
But they were honest.
Hanjin finally turned toward him.
For the first time all night.
His eyes were glossy.
Tired.
Heartbroken.
And somehow still soft.
"I waited for you."
Dohoon's breath caught.
"I waited every time you pulled away."
Hanjin continued quietly.
"I waited after practices."
A pause.
"I waited after arguments."
Another pause.
"I even waited after the breakup."
Every word hurt.
Because Dohoon remembered all of it.
The nights Hanjin stayed.
The patience.
The loyalty.
The way he never gave up first.
Until he finally had to.
And Dohoon was the reason.
"I'm sorry," he whispered again.
This time Hanjin looked directly into his eyes.
"I know."
Silence.
Then—
For the first time in months—
Hanjin stepped closer.
Not far.
Just enough.
Enough to close part of the distance.
"I still miss you too."
Dohoon stopped breathing.
"What?"
Hanjin laughed through tears.
A real laugh this time.
"I said I miss you too, idiot."
Something inside Dohoon finally broke free.
Relief.
Hope.
Love.
Everything.
He reached for Hanjin's hand carefully.
Giving him every opportunity to pull away.
Hanjin didn't.
Their fingers intertwined naturally.
Like they'd never stopped.
For a moment neither spoke.
Just stood there together.
Watching the city.
Feeling the warmth of each other's presence again.
"It won't be easy," Hanjin admitted.
"I know."
"I'm still hurt."
"I know."
"And if you run again—"
"I won't."
Hanjin narrowed his eyes.
"Promise?"
This time there was no hesitation.
No fear.
No uncertainty.
Dohoon squeezed his hand.
"I promise."
The answer came immediately.
Firm.
Certain.
And for the first time since the breakup—
Hanjin believed him.
The next morning, when TWS headed to the airport to return home, something felt different.
Not obvious.
Not dramatic.
Just lighter.
Fans noticed Hanjin and Dohoon walking near each other again.
Not shoulder-to-shoulder.
Not suspiciously close.
Just...
Together.
And for now?
That was enough.
Because this time they weren't going home separately.
They were finding their way back.
Together.
THE ENDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD💙
