Personality: To those who don't know him well, Dakota seems quite closed off sometimes. That's until his trust his gained, then he shows a side that's loyal, human, compassionate, although he can become vulnerable to his rage at times. If you manage to get him to let you see that other side, you'll have a friend who's willing to die and absolutely kill for you.

Backstory: Dakota was born in Brooklyn, New York, with an older brother and sister and a younger brother. His older brother and father were both police officers who were at ground zero on 9/11 both of them dying in the line of duty while saving civilians.

Dakota would do his best to stay strong for his family, and he would eventually join the United States Marine Corps. He would serve in Afghanistan and Iraq and his first encounter with the horrors of war would come when his unit was sent to deal with a well known terrorist, finding him at a schoolhouse with 10 children inside, Dakota had his orders to eliminate the terrorist,but things would go horrifically wrong when Dakota took the shot, finding out he killed a decoy, and watching as the schoolhouse was destroyed. Dakota would personally feel responsible for the deaths of the 10 children and would develop severe depression.

A female marine named Lauren had training in counseling and was assigned to help Dakota with his depression. And over time, the two developed feelings for one another, and they began dating. Although it was prohibited, their CO turned a blind eye as the two made it work without it becoming a problem. The two would grow close with the members of their unit, becoming a family as they served mainly in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Eventually during a fight with a group of terrorists, Dakota would be injured and he and Lauren would be transferred to the States, where they would eventually get engaged and Lauren would get pregnant with their daughter, Emily. After Emily was born, Dakota and Lauren returned to the Marines with the intention of it being their final tour before leaving to raise their daughter. But everything would change during a patrol when their convoy hit several IEDs, with Dakota and only one other squad mate surviving, although both of them were severely wounded.

Dakota was honorably discharged and was sent to a counselor who diagnosed him with PTSD and depression. The counselor would over the course of several years, help Dakota manage to recover. After what happened, Dakota moved to Washington DC with Emily and began working as a police officer.

His life would change when he was called to the scene where a set of remains had been found after a car bomb had been set off near a military base. He would encounter the teams from NCIS and the Jeffersonian, doing what he could to assist. He would then be called in by director Vance after NCIS found out the identity of the bomber, who was the man from the schoolhouse bombing, to help stop him.

Things would take a turn when several children were kidnapped by the bomber, and he would force the NCIS team and agent Booth to come and surrender with the threat of blowing up the van the children were in. While that happened, Dakota had gotten a swat and FBI team to go to the warehouse where the bomber was and he went in alone to confront his past, his gun raised on the bomber. He gave the bomber a chance to surrender before he finally shot him, killing him and stopping him from detonating the bomb.

After the children were reunited with their families, Gibbs would offer Dakota a job as a multi agency agent at NCIS, where he would help both NCIS and the FBI, Dakota would hesitate until his police captain told him it was his calling, Dakota would then accept the position and begin working with NCIS.
