Personality: To those who don't know him well, Dakota seems quite closed off sometimes. That's until his trust his gained, then he shows a side that's loyal,human, compassionate, although he can become vulnerable to his rage at times. If you manage to get him to let you see that other side, you'll have a friend who's willing to die and absolutely kill for you. As he's done so for many members of the gang. He's very caring for his horses and the horses of the gang.

Two Schofield revolvers that belonged to his father. He rarely uses them, but keeps them to honor his father's memory and as a reminder of the incident that caused him to become an outlaw.

Two cattleman revolvers that he got not long after joining the gang, which Dutch and Arthur helped him hone his skills with.

Backstory: Born in Lexington, Kentucky, his family settled in a small town not far from Lexington at the time. Dakota grew up in a family that was fairly well off, although that never stopped him from doing honest work. He came to become a very kind and caring young boy until he was about 14. His older sister, who was 19 was dating a 21 year old man who was very abusive when drunk. His sister came to their home covered in bruises and cuts, and when here boyfriend came, Dakota grabbed one of his deceased father's Schofield revolvers and shot the monstrous man straight through the chest, killing him immediately.

Most of the people in the community actually sided with him, but unfortunately for Dakota, the boyfriend was good friends with the sheriff, so he was quickly arrested and sentenced by the sheriff himself to hanging without even getting a fair trial. One of the deputies let him out and the 14 year old had no choice but to run. A few weeks after, he came across an older man and a man who was in his mid to late 20s, who had gotten into some trouble with bounty hunters.

Dakota quickly drew the attention of the hunters, who recognized him from a list of criminals wanted. The hunters quickly captured him. The two men, being Hosea and Arthur, went and got Dutch, and the trio went and rescued the young teen. And Dakota was brought into the gang. He quickly formed extremely strong brother like bonds with Arthur and John, and came to see Dutch and Hosea as father figures. As he grew, Dakota came to be one of the best shooters in the gang and fiercely loyal, often being found alongside Arthur and John as the trio on more than a few occasions, found themselves in sticky situations.

A few years after he joined, the gang found a girl a year or two younger than Dakota, who introduced herself as Mary Beth, and she and Dakota took quite a liking to one another, quickly becoming sweet on each other. Although they didn't actually start dating until 6 months after she joined.

He would form strong bonds with most of the members of the gang, with the exception of Micah Bell as he agreed with Arthur and Hosea over Micah being a major liability.

As the events of Blackwater came to pass, Dakota was with Arthur and Hosea, working on a real estate scam as the shootout started at the ferry. He would be quite disturbed hearing how Dutch killed Heidi McCourt, and how Micah was the one who convinced Dutch to raid the ferry, becoming even more distrusting of Micah.

Throughout the events of Red Dead Redemption 2, Dakota would slowly become disillusioned with Dutch, agreeing with Arthur to help get John, Abigail and Jack out. He would be alongside Arthur for a majority of the story until the end. He would make sure Tilly, Sadie, Abigail and Jack got to Copperhead landing safely. He would then have Mary Beth wait with them for him to return.

A few days would pass and he would meet up with Charles, going with him to retrieve Arthur's and Ms. Grimshaw's bodies, helping to bury them. After that, Dakota and Mary Beth would officially get married and he would even go straight, becoming a deputy with a sheriff's department, who accepted him despite his past as an outlaw. He would then run into John and Uncle in blackwater and would be happy to see them. He would often check up on them and Charles.

He would eventually receive a visit from Sadie, who would reveal she knew where to find Micah, and Dakota would accompany her, Charles and John to hunt down Micah. After the events of the epilogue, Dakota would finally fully settle down with Mary Beth and they'd even have a pair of children, a son and daughter.

Horses: A blue roan Missouri Fox Trotter he found wounded by a cougar, he nursed the determined horse back to health, eventually dubbing him Poseidon, although Poseidon would die during the events of Chapter 6.

After losing Poseidon, Dakota got a silver dapple pinto fox trotter and dubbed her Starlight.
