Your POV
When I first met Phil, I was happy. Not only because I just met one of my favourite Youtubers, but because that feeling of want and pain suddenly disappeared. I felt happy, I felt glad, I felt as if I've just gotten a piece of me back.
But now I begin to panic.
What is he talking about? What does he mean? How did he know me when I was five years old? And why is that feeling suddenly gone?
"Shit," PJ mutters. "Dan, can you take Y/N to get a drink. Phil, come with me."
With his arm softly around my shoulders, Dan guides me through the crowd of fans and into a cafe across the road from where I was performing.
Every now and then, I look back at Phil and PJ, feeling guilty. I shouldn't feel guilty, though. I've only just met him... right?
Phil's POV
"What's wrong with you?" PJ snaps at me once Y/N is out of earshot.
"What do you mean 'what's wrong with me'? I did nothing wrong!"
"You shouted at Y/N!"
"Didn't you hear what she said? It's not like she can just completely forget about me! If I can remember her, why can't she remember me?"
PJ's face fills with realisation and frowns.
"There's something I should tell you..."
~A few minutes later~
"She doesn't remember me," I mutter. I keep hoping that this is all a dream, that none of it is real. But it is. Because it all makes sense.
That's why she didn't reply. That's why after all these years she's never contacted me in any way.
"I'm sorry, Phil," PJ says softly.
"It's fine. It's not your fault. I just need to talk to Y/N right now."
He nods and the two of us walk towards the cafe Dan took Y/N to.
When we enter, I spot her and Dan sitting at a table in the back of the room, the two engrossed in conversation, a coffee mug in both of their hands.
We walk towards the two. When we're right by the table, PJ mutters something to Dan, who nods. He gets up and gestures for me to take his seat, and as I sit down, the two walk away.
I stare at Y/N, who avoids eye contact. It pains me to see her like this, and it pains me even more to know the truth.
I sigh and break the silence. "I'm sorry for yelling at you. I-I just didn't know. I missed you."
"Why? I still don't know how we've met." After a short silence, she smacks herself on the head. "Of course I don't know how we've met. I'm so stupid!" She shouts, frustrated.
"No, you're not," I reach out and grab her hand, rubbing it comfortingly. "Would you like me to tell you?"
She nods, still not looking up at me.
"Well, ever since we were five years old, we've been best friends. We were neighbours and we grew up next to each other. Then, just when everything was perfect, you moved away and everything went wrong."
I blink back tears as she finally looks up at me, eyes red and puffy and cheeks stained with tears.
"Look, let's just... forget about all this for now. Would you like a lift home? Or maybe... come over to my place?" Her expression is uncertain. "Only for a little while." I blurt.
She begins fiddling with her fingers. "I, uh, I don't really go in cars."
"Why no- oh, yeah. How do you get around then? Surely you must go to PJ's or maybe other YouTube friends. And conventions-"
"I don't," she replies bluntly. "I stay here. I don't go to conventions. My friends come here. I walk around to get places and I live close to all the shops so I don't have to go very far."
I think of something to say, something to convince her to come, not wanting to part ways just now.
Sure, I could just go to her house, but I'm afraid. I'm afraid that maybe she has changed and that her house would be nothing like her old room used to be.
I don't want to walk in and find that instead of her many band posters she had her room covered with posters of topless models with bodies that I'll never have.
I don't want to walk in and find that all her nerdy things like video games, our old favourite movies and TV series, and figurines have been replaced by really grown up objects that I will probably never understand.
I'm just scared that maybe her appearance is the same, and maybe some of her clothing is the same (I can't tell if her personality is the same, as she is wearing a plain t-shirt under her jacket), but she isn't.
So, I decide to convince her to come, the way that always works... hopefully.
"I'll be with you the whole way," I say softly. "And I'll never let something bad happen to you."
She just sighs and nods. "I guess I'll give it a try."
