"Wake up o", Eghonghon tapped Omonigho's door. Her internal alarm knew what time of the day it would be, 5:30am, devotion time. She sluggishly got up, still feeling sleepy. She had spent the night copying her notes. They weren't much; it was still the second week of the term. 5 notes down, 5 more to go. She walked to the almost orderly parlor, taking her seat beside Eghonghon whose eyes were also drowsy. Mother was taking today's devotion. Tomorrow it would be Omo since they took it turn by turn according to age grade.
The Morning devotion began.
"I don't need to drop you at school, do I?" Leslie asked her children as she struggled to button up her black suit Jacket. She needed to be prompt in order to qualify for the position of Assistant Managing Director in Stranford International Company, her workplace. Now that they live a mile away from Ojodu, she needed to leave extra early.
"No Mummy, we're fine", Omonigho replied taking her Mother's empty coffee mug to the sink,
"Fine ko, Fine ni" Eghonghon muttered silently, glaring daggers at his sister. If he calculated right, they had to walk to the nearest bus stop to enter a maruwa that would take them to Farade Close which wasn't the schools immediate opening. And the shoes he chose to wear today were not built for walking.
"Okay then, there's 500 Naira on the table. Mee Shaan. Be good", Leslie rushed out of the house, closely the door loudly behind her.
"So we'll now trek because of you ehn", the boy ranted. The girl rolled her eyes.

"Sporrrrrrrrts Tiiiiiime", the voice of the Time Prefect lingered in the schools premises 3 seconds after he had stopped ringing the bell.
"Till next week then," Mr. Davis, the government teacher said, "I want you all to find out a tribe or ethnic group which is not popular. No two persons must have the same tribe and don't give me igbo, hausa, Fulani, etcetera." He picked his book and walked out of the class, everyone began to stand up. Omonigho sat, scanning the class for Helen.
"Ominigho right?", She cringed at the sound of her name pronounced wrongly.
"O-M-O", correcting the girl who stood beside her with her hair braided all back, skirt rising a little bit higher than the knee and a smoothly iron long sleeve school shirt.
"Right, right, I'm Maria, Class Captain and I need you to write out your details before the end of today", she walked away.
What details o.
"There you are, lets go before the teachers co―", the scream prevented Helen from completing her sentence. The ground began to shake as students rushed like bison herds being chased by a lion. Helen dragged Omonigho to join the herd of students pushing, pulling, trampling, dragging and flying down the stairs. They looked back to see a thin man with cane. That was why they were so afraid.
Soon they were in the school field, with various students wearing the sports outfit. She looked to Helen noticing for the first time, her outfit.
"Green wow", Omo smiled at her, she hoped she'd be in the same house with her new found friend.
"Yeah, I wish I was in Yellow though, come let's find out your house", Helen dragged her again to a notice board. She scanned the board,
"Okojie abi", Omo nodded.
"I'm going to skin Dami, she put you in Blue", Helen groaned.
"It's alright, I like blue" dumb color.
"Everyone to your houses", a teacher announced making Helen Sprint to her house color. Omonigho followed a bunch of students who she assumed were in Blue house because of their sportswear. I mean, it was pretty obvious.
"Gather close Bluelites", Omo scoffed. What was the weirdest name to give rather than what the grey bearded man had said?.
"For the past years we have been winning the inter school sport competition and let's hope that doesn't change this year" the man barked rather than spoke. He had a really tan skin and his hair cut was spectacularly designed. The only problem was the sound of his voice which caused students to quaver at its sound.
"Everyone is going to try a sport item so we can pick our competers. Jss1 line up", Omonigho walked back, feeling out of place amongst every bluelites. She desperately wished she was in the same house as Helen.
"The new girl right?", she turned to the voice, inwardly giving whoever a sarcarstic reply like, no, the old one or you must be the old cow, inwardly. The voice belonged to the voice of the boy she had hit in the cafeteria before. She tried recalling the name Helen had told her, De―
"Demilade, Senior Prefect Boy", he grinned at her showing a bright set of teeth, she raised a brow.
"And you're?", he was still grinning.
Why is this one shinning teeth for me now?
"I get it you don't talk much?", he placed his hands into his pocket. Unlike the rest of the students, he wore his normal school trousers which was smooth to look at and the sportswear shirt. She still doesn't reply him, not as an actof rudeness, but something else.
"Okay, uh...I'll just go stand over there", he pointed to where a bunch of kids, senior kids, stood. She instantly recognized the girl who had glared at her when she answered the literature question.
"If you want to come along", he was still standing beside her.
Go na, if you want to go.
"See you around?"
"Or maybe not!", he scratched his head and she still kept her attention to the people at her front, he walked away slowly, maybe expecting her to say something.
Omonigho stood for hours on the same spot. She couldn't find anyone else who wanted to talk to her and wasn't the Senior Prefect Boy and his group of friends.
"You girl, what class are you?", a man wearing a blue shirt and a face cap asked her.
"SS3 sir", she replied fidgeting with her hands. If she were asked to participate in the practice at this time, she knew she'd be totally embarrassed, why? One she was a log of wood, she couldn't move her feet properly not to talk of running. Two, she was still a log of wood.
"Then why are you standing here. That's where you should be with your mate about to test their Sportsmanship ability", he pointed to the same group of people the Senior Prefect had pointed too.
Oh great.
She walked to the group and when they saw her they stopped talking, staring at her.
"You came", Demilade appeared again.
"Hello", a short girl smiled appearing at his side. She had low cut and a rather plumpy body.
"I'm Feranmi his sister"
"Omonigho", she replied feeling a tad bit comfortable unlike when her brother had approached her.
"So she speaks and she didn't even reply me when I said my name", he tried to joke but received a blank look from the two girls.
"Come on, introduce yourself to her", Feranmi likely commanded the rest of the group. All except the glaring girl spoke.
And she wondered why.
