Chapter 6

My mother asked me to join at their annual charity work in the hospital. Yes, my mother was a nurse at a certain hospital here in Korea and I often come and do some volunteer work during my free time. She asked me to join the charity work they organized for the Oncology Department.

My mother drove me off to the hospital as I was texting Jason.

He asked me if I was available today then I told him that I’m doing some volunteer work at the hospital. He then asked me which hospital it was and that he wants to join too so I told him that we’re heading down to Seoul Medical Center. I waited for him to reply but he didn’t so I just turned off my phone.

“Wonder why he didn’t reply? Hmmm” I said

When we got to the hospital, my mother asked me to go and introduce myself to the patient I was assigned to so that he or she will be aware that I am in charge of him or her today. Before leaving the station she told me to wear the hospital gown, a mask, and a cap as standard precaution in the hospital to avoid transferring infection to patients. I was assigned to a patient who had lung cancer.

As I was walking I saw Jason standing in front of the staircase. I called him… he looked shocked and scared when he saw me and then he came up to me.

“Where are you going?! Why are you here?!” He exclaimed… he looked so furious.

“I’m just gonna introduce myself to the patient I was assigned to so that we can have a good working relationship. He is in room 204… is something wrong?” I said. His eyes widened when I told him that I was going to room 204.

“Anya, I need you to calm down when you get inside the room. Please don’t scream or say anything. Don’t panic… just breathe in and out… I’ll be just by your side. Don’t worry okay?” Jason said as tears started to form in his eyes.

I wondered why he was saying this to me, but I ignored them and went on to find room 204. When we got to the room, Jason was trying to stop himself from opening the door and tried to breathe in and breathe out.

“Just remember, if you couldn’t stand it anymore… just call me.” He said.
